Bad LCD :(

I was so happy when my LCD came to my door this afternoon.

I purchased a LG –L1730S (black version).

It arrived late this afternoon and I assembled it with the step by stem instructions and all was fine till tonight.

All of a sudden a grey line showed up about a 3rd the way down from the top of the screen. It runs along the whole width of my screen and the line is about 0.5-1mm think.

At first I turned the monitor off aswell as rebooting my whole system but this line still remains.

I even re plugged the cords in again and the problem still remains.

I think it comes down to a manufacture fault unfortunately.

Wow...that sux...my 15" secondary CRT does that occaisionally with a green line...but a simple thump fixes trhat...looks like an RA is order dude...

Post 3

try it on another PC first.

Post 4

LG.. cool

Post 5

....

Forgive me for asking a stupid question here.

But if the monitor has a grey line through it, due to a faulty monitor, how the **** did you get a screen shot of it?
Or is that a photoshop you did, to demonstrate what it looks like>?

Post 6

good point

Post 7

LOL yes milenko
To all who are wondering i did draw the line in there on the picture

Post 8

wow knight your not as stupid as you look. BL on the LCD though. sent it back?

Post 9

Hi Craig,

The best things to do, is contact LG and see what they can organize for
you.

Go The after sales service.
that sounds like a DOA so normally that should get replaced. and not repaired. The company that you purchased it off normally replaces it for you.
night i thing you got stoodged..

Post 11

bwahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.

now that i've got that out of the way, that's a bullshit response from scorpion. as far as i know they're obligated to provide you with a replacement unit if the one they shipped you is defective out of the box. i'd write back and let them know that you ordered a product from them, and you are yet to receive a product that functions as expected, and it is on their head to provide you with the goods you paid for.

or you could ring LG on 1800 643 156 and try and sort it out that way. i don't think you should be forced to jump through hoops to get it replaced tho, simply because of laziness on behalf of scorpion.

I know when I bought my LCD the difference between local and interstate + freight was $50 in favour of buying interstate

When it is the sort of money it does make a difference, if it was "0 or less I would have gotten it local.

Post 19

yes no one in australia seemed to have black

Oo ffs this is what i get back after i put in my RA form

Now I’m mad

Post 20

Explain this to them;

The item is DOA, it has never worked as it should, from the moment I got it.
You will provide me with an RMA number, and I will send the LCD back to you
You will then send me a replacement monitor, at your cost, that works, as that is what i've paid for.
You will then organise with your supplier to have the faulty item credited, replaced, or repaired, I really don't care, it's not my problem.

Post 21

Send the monitor back with a copy of your invoice and also include a
brief problem description. Once it arrives here, we'll test it.

Best regards,

Nick,

Post 22

At there expense as well knight if it is a dead monitor

Post 23

i wouldnt **** around charging them for the frieght back...just send it.

Post 24

usually these places have a return to base warranty... so you have to pay.

Post 25

Hence why I don't buy from scorptec anymore.

Really. ****em up, they sent you a dead product.

Post 26

Hay I know sometimes things are faulty heck it happens it’s just unfortunate. Its not that that I’m pissed off about.
It’s the fact that they keep asking me to go back to LG when clearly its not LG's problem.

And the last e-mail he sent to me seems asif it’s a bit of a smart ass comment.

Post 27

You didn't give them your artist's impression of your gray line did you?

:P

Post 28

Ring them on the phone, it is a lot harder to be a smart arse to a voice instead of an email. They have been good to me when i was having some ram troubles.

Post 29

That's DOA. I would insist that Scorptec replace it.

And here I was thinking that Scorptec has great service considering the amount they charge for their items.

Post 30

Once it arrives he'll test it? that sounds like hes not going to send you a replacement... Make sure he does because its their obligation to send you working products... This is the first Scorptec bad service thing I have heard of. And here I thought that they were pretty good...

Post 31

uh, he's also obligated to at least verify the fault.

Post 32

if you're going to pay that much, you might as well go to pluscorp. almost the same prices and sometimes you get OCAU discounts (and sometimes free shipping as well) on some items.

They had no problems taking back Samsung LCDs that had dead pixels (was reading some parts of a huge discussion about it on OCAU).

Post 33

You send the LCD back they will test it .. they wont believe word of mouth .. This would be the same for everybody.

If they test and find a fault they will send a new one. If they dont, they will send the old one back. Chance are they may contact saying we cant fault it.

Did you try the lcd on another computer?

Its said to hear man. But such is life.

Post 34

lol yes i did
if i pulled out the monitor cord altoghter the line is still there

Was this after the 7 day return period?

My brother in law bought a Samsung 172x which had a similar problem. He drove back to CPL that afternoon (quite a drive) and after a bit of discussion and reluctance on CPL's behalf, they tested the faulty panel on the spot to which, they replaced with new, fully functioning 172x.

If I were buying a flat panel from interstate, I'd get them to test it for defects. My LCD made the trip back to Darwin from Melbourne without developing any dead pixels. I think I'd go nuts if I had a stuck pixel.
