damn stoopid steam

Post 5

driving me absolutely nuts

I tell you what, makes you wonder why we buy the originals when its so hard to get the damn thing to run.

prolly easier to get a pirated version to work

hmmm. off to find some hacks

Post 6

don't hack HL2. valve will own your arse.

Post 7

stoopid steam wont connect for some reason

disabled software firewalls and hardware firewalls

what else?

Post 8

are you connected to the net :P j/k

i havent used steam so i can't offer muich assistance.

maybe visit www.steampowered.com and ask there.

Post 9

they should at least make a patch so u dont need to connect to their stoopid server to play the single player game

Post 10

talking about stoooopid

I got the shits with it, uninstalled steam, then tried to run hl2 on its own......

Steam pops up then starts self reinstalling off of the net.

Low and behold, steam starts working

WTF???

Oh well Im happy

Post 11

k, now we have steam up and running

please install the retail cd/dvd and install hl2

wtf, its installed already

oh i get it

part of the game is to get the GAME to work

Post 12

Steam/HL2 doesn't like anything including itself unless it's installed to default locations etc.

Oh and yes it did take quite a bit of time and a huge freaking pain in the arse to get to work.

Post 13

Dont understand people, you start steam in offline mode and you can play hl2 without being connected to the net.

Post 14

good luck installing it without being connected to the net, and thats what the problem is, not being able to play it.

Post 15

installing it offline works just fine

for activation AFTER it's installed however, you need to be online

Post 16

wow, at long last

damn that was painfull

Post 17

I have never had a problem with steam ever. Guess I'm just lucky :)

Post 18

aye steam is a bitch

For some reason, for me, i have to play the game once online to enable it offline. Thats each game, and afterwards my internet experience just chugs afterwards :'( Then i have to exit Steam via the context menu to keep offline enabled games enabled. If i screw any of it up (my comp crashes while steam is open, dont run the game offline), gotta start all over again.

Steam is extremely volitile, only really benifits people with broadband connections.

Post 19

The only upside to steam is that it locks your cd key to your account so that if you ever lose the game and your cd key its ok because its validated via your account in steam

Post 20

huh.. i thought everybody had Broadband :P

I'm having trouble in Chapter 10 finding the best way to set up the three turrets. I keep getting swamped and they eventually all fall over at once.

Post 23

you could try hudling up in a corner, with all 3 turrents facing in the opposite direction

or.... you could be really cheaty, and bring one of the turrents (or both) from the earlier bit in the game and get them to help to fight the onsalught.

bringing the turrents looks a little difficult. You just gotta get them over that large flooded room, with the electrified water

Post 24

yeah longy - i got fairly stuck on that part for a while. in the end i stopped trying to stand the turrets back up and went postal on their bitch combine arses. so with about 12 health left (and an unbelievable number of quicksaves) i managed to hold off around 30 of the ****s.

Post 25

I did that bit the cheap way, I tryed having 4 turrets running but i couldnt seem to win. So i picked up a turret with gravity gun and hid in one of the turrets little metal containers. I held it onfront of me and the combine all swarmed it, they couldn't knock it away and wouldn't attack m untill they knocked it down. I sat there for about 10 min waiting for Alex to arive and kill them all for me. :D

In the room next to the turets are a few barrels and an imovable box. I set the turrets up behind the barrels after i moved them to block the two entrances to the room. Then crouching next to the ammo box i was able to simply lay down large amounts of suppressing fire and force them to try and get throught he other door, where my 4 turrets (yep bought that sucker a long way, not really that hard just annoying) where able tocover each other over the top of the barrels and wreak havoc on the infedels.

Always a man with a plan :D

Post 28

AAAH i'm ignoring all the hints! This game is pretty damn good - I hated those Antlions, til I could control them :) I don't like those zombie's much though. Steam is fine for me. I bought the game off Steam, and in < 1 hour I was ready to play - it plays with no problems. I'm up to Nova Prospekt - I lost track of Chapters... I think it's about 9 or 10... it has turrets in it, so it must be what you guys are talking about... Does anyone else find that chick (Alex) beautiful?

Post 29

not beautiful, i believe hawt is the wrod you are looking for :D

Post 30

And the Tomb Raider phenomenon has begun again,

Post 31

hell no
easiest way to keep steam working properly is to never, ever connect online cos then it tries to update and shit which always ****s it up for me

Post 32

I did about the same as EoS - in that small room there, I stacked the 6 boxes up to block the entrance to one, and also so they couldn't shoot over (and my turrets couldn't see them, otherwise they'd blow the boxes up). Then I layed out the 3 barrels to block the other entrance - I set up the two turrets facing the barrels, and one facing the boxes... this worked well for a while, then the boxes broke and the barrels fell - I managed to put the turrets up again and keep them away from me.

Post 33

I blocked 3 out of the 4 entrances and put all 3 turrets at the unblocked entrance. Then I had fun as they tried to get through the one entrance.
