This stuff looks very intresting, i watched a show on SBS about string theory last night and spent some of today reading up on webpages.
Does anyone study this?

*Shrugs* Please Explain :)

Contact Ruin, it's 'Cool Sciency Shiznat', so he'll probably know about it.

Okay, here's your explanation:
BlueMania asked if anyone studies string theory. If you study string theory, you say "Yes, I study string theory". If you don't study string theory, you don't need to say anything. If you don't know what string theory is, google. You'd get a better answer than anyone here can give you, since it pretty much deals with the fundamental operation of the universe.
Had a good read about it in Time magazine at some stage. Really hurts the brain.
It's a "Theory of Everything" candidate. There's a few variants doing the rounds. It does a good job of explaining why the four major forces (gravity, electroweak, strong nuclear, weak nuclear) look so different when reduced to equations. It also does so without proposing zillions of new particles, unlike the previous ToE candidate, supersymmetry.
Apparently the theoretical physicists are still bashing out which variant or alternative holds more mathematical water, and trying to develop testable predictions.
Of course if they lick it, we'll have the first Theory of Everything, the ability to fit the universe in a formula on a t-shirt. In some ways this will be the most important moment in human history. In other ways it's pointless. To each their own!
If you saw the show on SBS I'm thinking about it wasn't really any good at actually explaining any theory. It just used special effects and told you how wierd and wonderful physics is. Good for someone to get interested in the subject but not very good on actual content.
I personally hope string theory doesn't eventuate so I have time to make my own and personally revolutionise human destiny! :P
Astronomers have just recently found some evidence suggesting at a superstring that may be out there only 10000 lightyears away!
I've studied string theory and super-string theory briefly in Quantum Phys. Definitely hurts the brain.
Currently reading two books in relation to quantum physics as well... interesting to say the least.
Damn Ruin, and I thought El Pres was egomaniacal.
Ahem. Megalomaniacal.
Oh, that too :P
Haha, I think it's good for oneself to have ambitions :D
I prefer G-string theory :)
I concur :p
