i have had a radeon 9600 pro for a while now but when i first bought it, it never woked properly. the problem was i could view everything like normal display, movies even benchmarks but when it came to game play it would die (i could go through menus as long as they didnt have graphics). by saying die i mean the screen goes black and i get a radoen message saying the card has had a major error and needs to shut down the game (it would go straight back to desktop). it does this on every game i have. i tryed latest drivers no help. so i took it back to the place i bought it they tell me its a conflict between my motherboard and my card and they say they wont replace it. so i try it on 10 other poples computers (all ith different motherboards) and it does the exact same thing to them as it had done to me. even now it does it and i have a different motherboard.
is there some sort of software i can get to fix this (other than drivers). or does somone know how to fix it in an other way. iv had a look on the net and cant find much.
If u tried this on other peopls comps and got the same error...I'm voting dead card. Where did you get it from and does it still have a warranty? The card should be plug in, install drivers, restart, start playing....nothing else. What mobo are you running just for reference seeing as they reckon its a mobo conflict (which in all honesty is a load of bull imo)
Partially working isnt working....its still dead. If it cant do what its meant to do, the fact it can do SOME of the stuff its meant to do is a moot point.
Its like this...ur car engine runs, but the gearbox is f**ked...does that means its fine cause u can start it and rev it?
sorry but that doesnt help at all. what i meant was it still sorta works so if it half works there may be a chance it could be fixed though other means than getting it replaced
Oh right. I misinterpreted what you meant. Yes in some cases, but in ur case it sounds like it may be a fault at a hardware level, in which case even if they COULD repair it, theyd replace your card with another one anyway
all right cheers for all ya help fellas looks like im in the market for new video card. on that subject can anyone sugest a good card for around $350 - $400 radeon or nvidia
mojo, i dont think that was actually the serial number, most gecube cards have two barcoded stickers on the base, the number you are after should be something like xxGCxxxxxxxxxx. i'm only asking because it's possible i can handle the warranty side of things for you.
