"FREE entry to your first LAN after becoming a DGA Member"

If I become a member at the next lan will i only pay for the membership or membership + lan fee, and get the lan after free?

Also, Will i get another free lan after renewing my membership after june?

Post 3

Free Lan when you pay membership.

and June, most probably no.. because so many people will be renewing we will be running a 'free' lan... it still has to be looked at though.

Post 4

I registered at evo, are you saying that my rego will run out at the end of june?

Post 5

yep it will, registration will then have to be renewed.

Post 6

WHAT THE?!?!?! I thought membership was for a year... At least I believe thats what the membership form said. Those are exorbitant membership fees for only half year... Meh this sucks...

Post 7

Yes the year is from July to June (financial year) we are able to pro-rata it after December.

Post 8

wtf is pro rata

Post 9

an adverb that is not being used correctly.

Post 10

Adverb: pro rata
1. In proportion

Post 11

long story short. we discount it closer we get to the june renewal because otherwise it's 'exorbitant'

Post 12

hows about u just put it out in english so us plebs who dont want to think dont have to :D.

Post 13

cos i didn't write the post... knight did.

Post 14

well obvious u know the story ..

start like this ....... " The reason why its only 6mnths membership is because ........ however ......... "

Post 15

jesus hasn't it been cleared up sufficiently for you? "the shorter your membership will be, the cheaper it will be", is essentially what's been said so far.

Post 16

go to www.darwingamers.org/membership.php and take a read.. if you can't understand the table, seriously, let me know.

After looking at the table NOW I understand .. sorry we arnt all at your leave of knowing it all pala. Do appologise will try harder next time for you.

The middle is what no body said .. So thats the bit that confused me and well others as well .. But of course I was saying it where as you could have written what you did up early instead of saying what pro rata isnt and you could have helped the situation. Instead Ive now come asking for it.

Post 20

Ok so let me get this... If I were to renew next month its "5?

Post 21

no.. you can't.. that would only take you to June 30th.

Membership is $35 per year, ok.

Post 22

srry i dont want to annoy u any more then u are. but i dont quite understand "i was told iam paying $35 for a year? i figure now that by becoming a member iam not saving money from entry fee discounts because of it expirery in june. If i payed $35 in july would that mean i have till june next year?

Post 23

yeah when u renew it after the 1st of july it will last until june 30th 2006

Post 24

there is value joining up at anytime now because of the free lan entry upon joining..

infact, joining in June will save you money.

Post 25

Post a copy of the form we signed. i never saw financial-year writen on it..........

Post 26

u guys are going to have a problem with this... im not a member and now i see whats happened im glad im not.

i would say its plain unfair for the people who paid 35 bucks and then only recieving half of what they paid for.

dont flame me. it doesnt bother me. i didnt register. what happend to the fun in dga. all it seems to do at the moment is cost lots!!! you do realise your target audience are people who arent likely to earn a lot of moneY!!!!

Post 27

out of curiosity, why does all of our memberships expire on the same month, rather then one year after we purchased out memberships?

it's seems a little strange for a one year membership to all expire at the same time

Post 28

Because DGA is an association it has to abide by certain laws... unfortunately, it's not quite like an internet service where you rollover at the anniversary date and DGA can't help that.

Personally, I agree, it's shitty. But there is nothing DGA can do now except decrease the price for membership as the date for renewal comes closer.

Ritz, I'll attempt to find a copy of the form...

re-read the first post.

I was the first person to sign and fill out a form, and my form is dated the 18th October. (same date as that post)

It clearly states membership is for the 2004/2005 financial year.

regardless of when you join, you still have the opportunity to re-coop your membership costs in LAN discounts, sponsor discounts, free coke/sausage sandwich, etc before it expires.

Obviously joining in July - Decemeber is more financially beneficial for you, and us.

Post 30

DVD - it's very common for memberships to expire simultaneously. For one it neatly sidesteps any issues of who is and who is not a member at a given time. This solves or at least simplifies a lot of legal issues (eligibility to vote, ownership of property) that can arise from a disputed membership list.

No, it's reasonable and necessary.

Think about it. DGA was growing fast and needed legal structure to hold assets, make binding contracts possible and to limit the liability of its organisers. You can't do this with pixie dust and happy thoughts. You need legal personality - you need to incorporate.

So once DGA has chosen to incorporate, it needs members. In theory they could have restricted membership to the admins only. This would be completely legal, however, uninformed dills like you would complain. So in democratic style they threw it open to the gaming masses.

What did you do? You complained that you could be a member, and have the right to vote out the very people who work hard to make you happy.

You're a nong. Really.

Certain clubs and associations renew their members at the same time. Its just easier to deal with everything at once rather than continuously dealing with it all year. You dont do a tax return 1 year after you start working. You do it in July. The only difference is first year members (like me) will only wait months to renew, but I joined cheaper anyway. And how about that free sausage... :)

Post 39

i joined at the last evo and i still cant login on the site properly :(
just im too slack and inconsistent with the forums to actually fix this issue...

Post 40

... and what may be the issue?

Post 41

Bomb3r3, email the good fellow that has posted above me and all your woes will be fixed, forthwith. (or something)
