More VPN issues

well I sorted out the non connection issues..

now when I create a VPN from one to the other .. it drops its local network ..

My whole aim of the vpn, is so that, those in my sales dept can create a job with myob and then get the job to print here in the service center.

When I create the VPN from the sales dept to here the service center. The sales dept loses its local network (not able to browse) meaning cant access the myob data file when connected.

Not being able to get the data file means this whole exercise is not working ..

So what am I missing, I will check here, as I continue to try different things.

ended up using a software solution called Hamachi ..

Its has solved my problems.

I love it when someone solves all your problems before you even get them - linkage for this program?

or is that being too lazy ;-)

Dunno if this will solve it, but you can make the local network the 'default', and the vpn use ip specific traffic. Go into your vpn connection, under tcp/ip->advanced, there a tick box somewhere which will be ticked saying 'use as default'. Untick this box, that should make your local network the default, and the vpn should only be used when it has traffic for that specific ip(determined by the router). So when traffic can't be routed through vpn it should pass to the gateway which will circumvent the vpn via the local network.

I did try this, however it didnt work. I believe its something with these modems though ..

For a VPN to come in from Sales, I first have to have a VPN from service to sales. So that in itself is not right.

You need whats called "split tunnelling" enabled - which means your local network is still available as well as your VPN tunnel network - effectively it allows routing between the two networks - in your case this appears to be disabled therefore its an either or situation.
