What for close PSP vs DS

34 public posts in this discussion.

Post 1

I would like a reason as to why this thread was close. It was valid debate and related to the topic.

Post 2

Valid debate?
Bwaahahahahaha!

Post 3

That became a flame, not a debate.. It's a silly topic anyway, they are two different handheld with different features and different games. It comes down to personal choice, neither is better or worse. I could never understand the whole debate.. just get the one you think you'll enjoy more, shut up and be happy otherwise buy both.

Post 4

I agree, the whole thing just got retarded.

Post 5

I agree, the whole thing just got retarded.

But thats what made it fun....

Post 6

Indeed, It was a fun topic to read, always something interesting or borderline humerous. One of the more heavily discussed threads on this forum :/

Post 7

Seriously the DS is about half the god damn price of the PSP. What did you expect, and considering that the psp is sonys first attempt in breaking into the hand held market that has been majorly domaniated by the Nintendo?

Post 8

And this thread should be locked...

Chad, don't start the 'discusion' back up.

Post 9

what else is there to do but debate psp v ds? not like there has been much discussion of this area of the forum?!

Post 10

The topic was closed by a moderator for a reason. Starting the 'discussion' that took place in a closed topic back up again is not a good idea.

Also considering your above post was basically flamebait...

Post 11

Again, who cares? It's always something to read, whether it's "flamebait" or not. The discussion/argument between chad and Nickaroo was the most active thread on this forum, so why close it. If you didn't like it, don't read.

To me it would appear as so;
Moderator: Oh look, people arguing about portable hand-helds in a PSP vs DS thread. How silly, they don't relate at all. Lets see, I have the power to end this... So I will by closing the thread. Yay me!

To me that's stupid. Regardless of what anyone else thinks.

Post 12

Damn i wonder if it was flamebait, mabe i should of just put a photo of a fish on a hook instead. Whats the point of a discussion forum when the only fun thing to discuss gets locked off?

Post 13

I know, lets talk about all the positive things in life.

Ha Psycho Penguin you’re a lovely person, I agree completely with all your ideas and thoughts. I think we should organise to go out on the town and have some drinks and discuss politics and life.

Post 14

Chad, I'll say it once. You're a ****stick.

If the closed thread had been mature, sensible discussion then perhaps it would not have been locked. You were inciting flames with your first post in this thread, that, in itself, is deserving of a lock. The topic got out of hand and was getting worse.

Not to mention that threads asking "Why was such and such thread locked" are a no-no. The correct course of action is to PM a moderator and they will explain WHY the thread was locked. Discussion can be entered into with the moderator.

Ok, so that's how it appears to you. I don't know of any moderator that would do this purely because 'they can'. There are rules that the forum goers have to abide by. These rules are enforced by the moderators, who also have to abide by the same rules.

The moderators also have to give just cause to the other moderators as to why the thread was closed. It is not a case where one moderator decides the fate of a thread, the 'team' of moderators give their opinions. The thread is locked if, in the opinion of the moderators, it is deemed to breach any of the rules.

Post 15

Chad, mate, when I goto town, I don't go to discuss politics and life, I go to have a ****ing good time and get shit faced, really, it's what I'm good at.

As for the above post, I can see where the moderators must take action and whatnot, it's their obligation, this I understand. But the thread was all play, no one was taking it to heart. Ask both chad and Nickaroo and I'm sure they will tell you the same. It's the internet, just let people express their opinions, nothing wrong in doing so now is there? Yes, if they where bashing directly at each other I would understand, but it was bashing at portable hand-helds, see my reasoning for all of this?

Post 16

Of course they are going to say the same thing, they were both 'in on it'.

Expressing your opinion is perfectly acceptable, even (shock horror) encouraged! But there are certain ways to express your opinion which are not frowned upon.

I, personally, thought the topic was fine and dandy for the most part. However, Chad and Nickaroo brought it down with such fine 'discussion' as Quote:
What crap game is that? and Quote:
Duh, me chad...

Like I said, it wasn't a mature and sensible discussion after a little while. Therefore it was locked. Too bad, how sad. If you're so deprived of good discourse then start another debate on a different topic.

Post 17

I havent resort to calling people ****stick like yourself.

I was voicing my view and also the person i was talking to was too. Just because the thread went into a entertaining debate doesnt mean why an administrator should walk along and shut it down without giving clear view why they locked it.

If people were getting upset because of the thread they shouldn't read an open BBS simple as that. There is alot more offesive material on the net than just two guys talking about a psp and ds.

Post 18

If you call that a discussion then fine.. was more like little kids crying over which toy is better..

Post 19

Quote from chad:

I guess that's my problem then isn't it. Don't worry, I'll have a cry later.

This is why there are certain ways to ask for clarification on thread closure. This thread is not one of those ways. PM a moderator ffs. Hissy fits aren't going to get you anywhere.

I certainly didn't find it entertaining, it became stupid and beyond pointless.

That's a problem - it is an open forum, to a point. This is why we have rules and moderators to enforce them, so that it isn't a freaking free-for-all. Oh, and if you have such a problem with how the moderators handled it - especially considering your view that if people are getting upset then they shouldn't be reading it - then why don't you find somewhere that does agree with you? (Honest question)

Post 20

It wasn't against any rules. Personally I don't think it should have gotten locked either.

I've seen worse discussion threads stay open.

Post 21

Yes you found it stupid and beyond pointless but has is occured **shock** **horror** that other may of found it entertaining of fun to read?!

Seriously a modrator should give clear insight why the thread was closed, at the last post of the thread! why should we have to PM the moderator say "oh why have you locked the thread"?

Post 22

You have to PM, because that is the means that was set forth when GU was created. You can argue all you want, but that is just how it is. Accept it and move on. Plus, I thought the last post in the thread summed it up nicely.

Of course people are going to disagree about whether the thread was entertaining or not and you are entitled to that opinion.

(You know, some people find rape and murder entertaining... our society, generally, disagrees. Deal with it.)

But if the Moderators believed it breached rules then it gets locked. Be glad you can still read it, it could've just been deleted entirely. Oh, and if you want to continue the 'discussion' then why not take it to PM's between you two? Valid suggestion.

Post 23

Isn't there a flame wars forum specifically made for this crap?

Post 24

Not really anymore, leonel. I guess its more tolerated there though...

Post 25

Well considering the first thread was killed for because of the same argument shouldnt this one be closed too? Considering this discussion or converstation is no going anywhere but turning into another flame war?

Like i said before shouldnt the Moderators you speak of close this thread because its just a continuation onto the first one. If so no, then the moderators are just clueless idiots who decide to in-act on the rules when they feel like?

Post 27

Rule Book:
By agreeing to these rules, you warrant that you will not post any messages that are obscene, vulgar, sexually-orientated, hateful, threatening, or otherwise violative of any laws.

Obscene - Little but what is a discussion without it
Sexually-orintated - none
hateful - none
threatening - we didnt decide to kill each other
violative - We were discussing about console systems

Defintion Obscene:
1. Offensive to accepted standards of decency or modesty.
2. Inciting lustful feelings; lewd.
3. Repulsive; disgusting
4. So large in amount as to be objectionable or outrageous:

So lock it allready?!

Post 28

Chad, FFS grow up and get over it. Is it really that important to you?

Post 29

yes

You know, the first thing I suggested in this thread was to close it.

Moderators don't have 24hours a day to moderate. They have lives.

Quote from NOOB WAYSTATION:
It doesn't mean everyone has to play happy lovers and pretend friends with each other. Flames, arguments and directed comments are allowed, just keep it to a mature level. It has always been a base from Gamers-Underground that we are a community of mature people, not a ranch of moaning 13 year old brats.

Quote from NOOB WAYSTATION:
Moderators will treat everyone equally, which includes other moderators. Should it be felt that the moderators are overstepping their boundaries. Please contact them directly otherwise nothing can be done at all, at most parts of the day moderators are very friendly people and should be willing to listen. However please refrain from posting it publically if it involves only a single moderator as it usually ends up turning into a bashing session and would just end up with everyone in the shits.

As I said in one of my posts above:

Quote from Seqo:

I've seen many threads left the way they were because, even if it was a very heated argument (ie, El Pres and OD on Politics), at least it was mature.

And something you so clearly missed from the same rules you took the above from:

Quote from rules:
The owners of Gamers Underground reserve the right to remove, edit, move or close any thread for any reason.

Now go away.

Quote from Seqo:

Yes but it still hasnt.

Quote from Seqo:

Moderators don't have 24hours a day to moderate. They have lives.

But there is just not one moderator so technicaly this is Feasible and possible.

Quote from Seqo:

As I said in one of my posts above:

Yes you did, but you continueing debating the issue instead of locking it?

Quote from Seqo:

It was about psp v ds on a public forum, we both were having fun. No warning just suddenly locked?! atleast they could of moved it into the flame forum.

Quote from Seqo:

And something you so clearly missed from the same rules you took the above from:

Thats the rule book and it given when a new user signs up, and no i didnt miss it.

Quote from Seqo:

Now go away.

Arent we being mature about the situation? Like i said if the rules were agreed apon on this forum this THREAD would be locked.

Post 32

i'm locking this thread because i can't deal with chads merciless obliteration of the english language.

Post 33

Quote from Psycho Penguin:

i'm leaving the moderator realm here by saying that yourself, and a few others from that thread, are absolute ****sticks

it deviated from a discussion of hand helds to flaming, and it was petty

and opening threads in response to closed threads is equally stupid

get lost.

Post 34

and replying in a locked thread is silly too :P
