MUDVAYNE MYLO (UK) KID KENOBI and MC SHURESHOCK THE HILLTOP HOODS SONICANIMATION DJ JASON MIDRO FAST CREW SHIHAD WOLFMOTHER
Among others, http://www.bigdayout.com/news/pressreleases.php#
Boiler room got some nice names now, though hardly unexpected ones. Would love to catch Mylo, people have questioned his mixing ability before, but after hearing his essential mix on Radio 1 this year I would love to see him live.
Kid Kenobe is always a star, breaks don't come any better. By far the best breaks DJ in the world as far as I'm concerned and he always goes off live. Shureshock always adds to the mayhem, this set I'm definately looking forward to.
Jason Midro is pure ass, his mixing ability is utter shite and he always picks the cheesiest NRG anthems. But thats just my opinion :)
Some nice OZ hip hop acts, Hilltop hoods are always crowd pleasers, even if you don't like hip hop I'd recommend you check them out. They set the crowd off! Fast Crew I've never seen out but will hopefully check them out.
Mudvayne is a fairly big name in the metal scene I think? Sounds like a nice big name for all you guys who are into that :)
Wolfmother are very cool. Aussies too, if you like rock make sure you check em out. Same with Shihad, (but they are nz right?)
Over all a very cool lineup in this announcement. I'm probably going to go now, whereas until now the lineup seemed fairly boring. Lucky us in GC also have got 2 local top trance DJ's mag00 and Scott Walker. They are freakin awesome and will defintely be crowd pleasers. So, who's going now?
what happened to metalattack's proposed second round listing...gorillaz...daft punk..snoopaloop
the only ones from that list that interest me are kid kenobi (got his MOS album and it rocks) and hoods. but i hear sydney has sold out, and it's not worth finding tickets for the price theyll go for.
Quote from SperO: I wouldn't go to BDO for techno, that's what Two Tribes is for
Two Tribes > BDO
Wtf are they trying to do ....
BDO has always had a dance music room... Have you been to any in the last couple of years? I'll quote myself from the last thread:
Quote: BDO has always had a kick-ass dance music room (called Boiler Room on the Gold Coast, dunno what they call it elsewhere). Chemical Bros, Freestylers, Bexta, Infusion and Concord Dawn this year. Basement Jaxx, Aphex Twin, Felix da Housecat, Sonic Animation and Audio Bullys in 2004. Underworld, Kraftwerk, Mark Dynamix (SHITE!), Kenobe, Bexta and C-Dawn again in 2003 as well as the freakin-legendary DJ Carl Cox.
I know tons of people that go to BDO solely for the dance music, myself inlcuded.
As you can see they've had many a big name in the dance music scene. Of course TT is bigger than BDO dance music-wise, so is Summadayze here on GC, Mayhem and Adventjah. Doesn't mean you can't have more than 1 genre of music at a festival.
Read the acts. They are not basing it on dance music... By far the most people who are going are there for the rock/metal/indie. This year seems to have more pop-rock/pop-indie acts (dunno how to classify them - liek franz ferdinand, end of fashion etc) like:
The White Stripes, Iggy & The Stooges, Franz Ferdinand, The Mars Volta, AFI, The Living End, Shihad, Wolfmother, End of Fashion, Mudvayne, Kings of Leon and heaps of others that I've never heard of but I'm sure rock fans would have
Well don't pay and don't go! Seriously, the emphasis has never been on the dance music and never will be. But if you can appreciate more than 1 genre at a festival you're gonna have a hell of a better time than the twats who sit at home and bitch about it. BDO has always had the same boiler room with big names, it's never detracted from the festival. I don't see why you're bringing it up this year like its something different than previous years.
Mudvayne, 2many DJ's, Kid Kenobi, Jason Midro, Hilltop Hoods... some half decent acts, but I won't be going this year. After the 2005 line-up, this just looks dismal.
Hilltops, yeh i think there releasing there new stuff, cos i show them just before they stopped touring and for some odd reason they said they wouldnt tour again until the new album is finished. While shihad and wolfmother have had there new albums out. shihad will always get the big local gigs and so will wolfmother. But wolfmother are starting to get more attention internationally now aswell.
