On the behalf of DGA I am looking for someone with time on their hands to help me out with DGA sponsorship and Advertising. This job requires someone with maturity and that lives in Darwin. This will be an on going role with DGA. I'm looking for someone with good people skills and of 18years or older. This will be your sole job with the DGA committee. If you think you can take this job on please PM me. I would then like to have an informal conversation about the position.

The position basically entitles getting a list together of possible sponsorship businesses, getting in contact, negotiating deals and then maintaining contact with the business. Heaps of communication is involved phone calls, emails and constantly keeping everyone on the DGA committee informed. You will be working along side with me, the job is a committee commitment and does not require you to help out in DGA events (unless you want to). I need help with this job as I already have a heap of other commitments with DGA.

Remember this is a voluntary position. You do not have to of had heaps to do with DGA in the past. I just need someone to help me do the job =)

Please PM or add me to MSN if you are interested.

I felt like bumping this up, because basically if Evo is going to go ahead and break numbers in attendance. We really need to start pimping out the DGA EVO 6 Event to people and everyone.

Eg. That new lan cafe in the city hub would be a good place to start.

So really people need to help out here. I would, but I'm not there yet :P

One reasonable avenue of exposure is the free suburban newspaper that ends up in everyone's mailbox....you could approach the producers of it and either simply do an insert, which usually costs you $20-$30 per 1000, or perhaps approach from a community angle and ask if they can do it for you at a reduced cost. It is a good cheap form of blanket advertising, however it could be argued that you may not reach your ideal target audience.
TV would of course be the best method, but it is expensive unless Channel 9 were to "donate" some air time to DGA, and then I suppose you have the inherent risk of seeing Eater's mug pop up on the tv while you're having dinner.
Print fliers and ask every computer retailer in Darwin and Palmerston to sit them on their counters - or better yet, ask them to put one in every customer's purchase. They can only say no.

Post 11

they have all said no.. i tried that last year

Post 12

channel 7's community billboard?

Post 13

Harb could probably help the ABC 'provide' us with free air time :P

Post 14

submitted to channel 7 three lans earlier this year.. has anyone ever seen them?

also submitted to hot 100 a few times.

Post 15

Fliers would be a good idea, get everyone out and walking door to door in their neighborhood.

Will be approching Community Billboard for EVO. Also will chase up The Darwin/Palmerston Sun, give it another shot.

For advertising, I think the easiest way would be to advertise the www.darwingamers.org URL all over the place, then prepare a front page on the site for all the new comers with information about DGA and what they can offer.

I remember some kid in the UK advertised his site by writing the url of his site on bananas in biro and handing them out as free snacks. Maybe DGA could do the same thing with blank CD-Rs or DVD+/-Rs, or some other computer stuff. :)

The Darwin and Palmerston Sun belongs to News Ltd, so you won't get a discount.

As for media, you need persistence and a catchy story. "Some people play some games together" is not catchy. If there was a photo or a heart rending story of how some guy lost his fingers and came back to champion, maybe you'd get a lookin.

Remember: journos are gagging for the next story, but they are gagging for a sensational story. A crisis, a crocodile, a dingo story. Unless you have a twist on things, don't expect to get in.

However, slow news days come along. Every time you run a LAN, send out a press release to the papers, TV stations and radio stations. Once in a while - rarely, but sometimes - you'll get a mention or a phonecall. Persistence, patience and shamelessness are the keys to free media.

Me too, but hard to organise without somebody pressing criminal charges. You'd still get the story, but essentially it would read thus:

DARWIN, AUSTRALIA. More proof that lan gamers are smelly cannibals came today at local event Evo Fight, when a young boy ate off his own foot in order to win a gaming competition.

The boy was playing recently-released game Count A Strike, in which players receive detailed, realistic training on terrorist tactics, weapons and religion. It is believed by authorities that a culture of foot-eating has emerged amongst jihadists, based on this isolated incident.

"I believe that games like Count A Strike and GT Eh must be banned", said Thickwit McNoughties, the local ignorant politician said in response. "Such games only teach our children violent behaviour. They should be out in the park, playing AFL or Rugby with a bit of biffo. The games are far too realistic. I say it's time to bring back wholesome actual violence".

None of the officials at the event were available to comment at 60 seconds to press deadline this evening.
