So if you become a member would there be a reduction in entry cost? Otherwise people forking out 60 dollars just for the lan.

Post 3

2X Corsair ram as door prize? ooooo

Post 4

No.

The membership price has already been reduced to $30 for the month of January and the Lan will cost you $30 for being a member. So $60 it is, unless our Treasurer/Pres says otherwise.

Post 6

I did remind and encourage all to become a member before the EVO event, http://www.gamers-underground.com/forum/showthread.php?t=20145

The upcoming DGA LAN will be the last for 2005. I encourage everyone to become a member to escape paying a larger fee at EVO 6 (Due to a heavier entrance fee + $30 for membership).

Sorry Minorci but the prices are final.

We currently have just over 40 members, so the chances are high for winning a mebers only prize.

Post 8

Nice prizes, should get a few more people a little more motivated I think :p
I just hope you get a really nice turn out :)

i paid for my membership at the previous lan, the 1 with the dance dance game on, hope i win 1 of the prizes atleast :p

Post 10

so as a non member who only goes to a few lans a year you still need to fork out membership to be up for door prizes even though you pay a higher entrance fee that doesnt really seem fair to people who arent available to go to all the lans?

I have no intention of becoming a member, this is just for others who are thinking about it. Just seems a little stupid.

DGA rewards its members with benifits, such as lower entry fees, member only prizes, free food, etc because they've paid extra money to become a member.

So I assume this doesn't include Evo's?

How come it says this at the beginning of this thread? I was under the impression that it cost around $60 to get into EVO - dont want DGA to be seriously out of pocket or something

Post 18

Umm, I'm lost. Please assist.

It will only cost you $35 to get into EVO if you are not a member (and registered).

If you decide to become a member and attend EVO at EVO to be in the draw to win the prizes, it will cost you $60. (It costs $30 to be become a member on the month of January. $30 to enter EVO. All memberships will expire at the end of June.)

That is why it might cost you $60 at EVO. It's to become a member and attend EVO.

Otherwise it's just $35 if you've registered, or $40 unregistered.

Post 20

dvd has got it right.. Venue is in the $4000 mark.. inc tables and chairs.. so we are just getting ends to meet.. membership helps dga to get the Public libality insurance which is a killer to the bank account..
If we could we would love to have free lans.. but no one will give us that money :(

Post 21

if you did fork out the 60 you would of course still get the next normal dga lan free i would think correct?

Post 22

No, all details that are needed to know about membership and entrance fee have been said. I don't believe it is the concern on the participants the cost of the venue. We charge what we charge because its what we need for a break even point, DGA makes little to no profit. So please accept the prices for what they are.

Post 23

just one more question... committee members do also pay the entry fee correct?

Post 24

yes we do, aswell as full membership costs.

Post 25

yeah, and a nice plane ticket cost too.

People might have to pay $30/60, then consider another $400-$500 on top, but you dont see me whinging.

Post 26

but some people have different financial situations :)

Evo has been around the same time every year for how long now?

people have had what at least a month at a minimum to come up with $

Gimme a break

Post 29

damn i was gonna pay to be a member this time i just dont have the money
im going with $50 so i might as well pay $35

Post 30

all I can say is suck it up and pay the fees. If becoming a member is too pricey for you this time round, just do it next lan or when you have some cash saved up.

As Hawkeye was saying there is a alot of ppl forking out lots of cash to come to EVO event from interstate, so I wouldnt be winging about a few dollars. No matter your financial situation.

Its like this; wants and needs. You want to go or you need to attent? If its a need then the choice is simple; pay it. Otherwise maybe next year for you.

I am not an admin anymore however I am a STRONG believer that admins should be intitled to all prizes if they are a member and a reduced cost of getting in!

The reason why is because without them, DGA wouldn't operate.

My 2c worth

yes but some people will see that as unfair.. just remember the admins are not getting anything extra out of this but just seeing the lan run well.. so we do too pay the same prices as you so we do know how much it costs and sometimes how much it hurts the bank account

Post 33

Actually... Speaking of interstate people. It's probably be a nice gesture if DGA could do a discount, or a special sort of thing for them out of appreciation.

And no, I'm not from interstate. ^_^'

Post 34

they do dont they?

interstate memberships of "0??

I still pay full, but hey ?

Post 35

What's it matter what the admins do or do not pay, that is of no concern to anyone and nor should it be a problem either. The time and effort put into organising, planning, setting up, cleaning, maintaining and not to forget packing up the event for all you folk should be more then enough to justify just about anything.

They are the people that give you DGA almost on a silver platter, there are costs involved and probably a lot more then most realise. DGA has never been about making money, its about making a good lan for everyone to get together have some fun and enjoy themselves. The bigger the event the more it's going to cost, it's simple. You want bigger and better then it's going to cost more. I'm sure DGA are trying their damn hardest to get it to be the cheapest they possibly can for everyone. But money doesn't grow on trees unfortunately and it has to come from somewhere. All the money goes back into DGA to run events like this, for better hardware, more prizes and so on.

So in all honesty I really suggest people take a good hard look at everything they do, they try to do everything you gamers want, after all they are trying to make it better for you the gamers. So I think a little respect and appreciation would go a long way and don't forget they do it for you. You want bigger and better they will try, but dont expect it to come for nothing, even though im sure they try damn hard to give it to you for nothing.

In front of me I see a list of support and prizes that are I think beyond anyones expectations, $450 cash prizes, over "000 worth from Internode, and more hardware to be won I mean theres got to be at least a good "600 to 1700 worth there in prizes alone! Then the facilities to support over 200 gamers over 3 great days. Really.. is that not worth it?

Post 36

Yes interstate members only have to pay "0 for membership as we understand they may only come to 2-3 LANs in the year.

You can cry and whine as much as you like but the prices are final. Just keep in mind the next time you want bigger and better LANs this all comes at a fee. We could lower the fee if we spent 3 days at the Greek school instead? Or if we only fed half of DGA or only DGA members? Or only DGA members were allowed to come to LANs? If we didn't have any competition prize money? Or we had no tables and chairs to sit on? Or fewer servers and lower tech switches? It would even be cheaper if we didn't turn on the air conditioner! But no one wants this do they?

DGA does not have to do all this, but we do because we know it's what the gamers want and this all accumulates a lot of money. DGA is not trying to rip you off at all! I would appreciate it if people just stop complaining about the cost. DGA makes hardly any profit and puts this show on for you guys, not for us as admins as we hardly get any gaming time at all. So settle down prices are final, can't afford it, then don't come, you don't need to post so we all have to know. Lets get to more important topics.

I request any further topics about the prices to be deleted. If you have a serious issue then please don't hesitate to PM me.

Post 37

shouldnt be any discounts. No offence hawkeye, but i don't see why you should get a discount :) Make them damn southerners pay double i say :)

Post 38

i might go and i dont have a membership. people from down south just dont buy a membership. dont mean to discourage people, but how many lans will you go to seriously?

Post 39

Well their "0 will get them a free sausage ($2) and a coke ("), $5 off entry fee and entry into prize draws ("000+ worth). So that equals to their "0 just in one LAN, so why not become a member if your from Interstate?

Post 40

I dont have any quarrels or concerns about the costs involved, hell, if I can rack up the cash to spend on a flight whats $65 when its towards something you can enjoy?

I am quite happy to pay full price, just exactly the same as everybody else, even if I do do some admin things or things that are asked of me, I really dont mind at all.

The monies raised from these events dont go into anybody pockets except DGA - THe organisation of which I am happy to contribute to, nothing more, nothing less.

The more members the better things that can happen, prizes, more interstate people, more attention = more sponsorship = more prizes= more fun !!!

And besides its more fun for a mexican to take that nice sweet G17 :D

Post 41

if i give you "0...can i touch you hawky? :P

Post 42

well that g15 keyboard, boy its taking some time to get used to the keys on that thing. Just keep getting mixed at times of "AHHHHHHHHH" gun, knife, grenade - "momo was killed" in battle lol.

Because the key sets (macro buttons -keyboard extended) on the left hand side are there, I dunno for others but normally I'm use to not having them there, so using my mx900 keyboard atm.

But congrats the the winner of the door prize because you will have fun with it, specially with some development with the LCD screen programs. I got IRC, MSN, and working on live stats for BF2 using lcdstudio.

Few reminders to you evo attendants

FILE SHARING
if you plan to share files then please use FTP. if you dont know how to setup or use FTP filesharing seek a admin and we will help you or get someone to help you
using windows file sharing slows our network down so FTP must be used.

We have decided one of the corsair ram prizes is going to be a Non Members draw.

There will be a intranet site at EVO. when you are on the EVO network direct your browser to http://dga

CSS players please update your steam before you attend

Post 48

Ritz: Not a snowball's chance in hell. Might want to withdraw money before coming. Please have a nice day.

Post 49

yes with the filesharing protocols for windows I would strongly recommend this and you will notice a big difference in network performance. I am happy to help along as well to get it sorted.

I posted here:

some quick how to's on disabling filesharing and using ceasarFTP.

Post 54

ok now correct me if i am wrong here i am assuming from a post in another forum about dga that you run a lan every month if that is so then going by the price of the evo and normal DGA you save $5 each lan membership is $30 so really you are saving nothing. If you get a price you gain something if not you pay the same.

For those that arnt devoted gamers (i am one) who wouldnt get to every lan i would say membership isnt worth it cos really a free sausage and can of coke isnt that much.

Post 55

The more lans the better, and all credit to you - just tread carefully with your comparisons... Sell your's by all means. Casting dispersions on others will win you no mates.

Post 56

Normal DGA's are $20 to non-members and "5 to members, Evo's are different as they're an annual event. So there's not much difference between that and these nos events. However, by paying for membership, not only do you get that awesome free sausage prepared by the one and only Eater, and a free coke you also have the chance to win the members only prize which is definately worth it.

But meanwhile, this is a DGA forum, so how about we stick to talking about DGA ;)

sorry guys just trying to work it out post about my lan was a slip i write all my posts on word first as i have trouble keeping loged in(something to do with my internet not working all the time i think) and had two messages typed up not trying to cause an uproar (edited it) sorry bout that. That message was for another message board not on this site

Post 59

yer so ner ner :D

Post 60

awww i was waiting for a passionate uproar :( lol

im pretty easy with the cost of things and yeah DGA pricing seems fine to me. all i can say is (just like fuel prices) suck it up and pay for it. no one is forcing anyone to do something they dont want. you do or you dont; simple.

Great thing i love about DGA is that its good quality fun and a social thing for me. See ppl i havent for a while and LAN with mates over a good Hot Chocolate :D I dunno why but you feel seedy after a few lol ;)

pwn some n00bs and watch as they cant blame pings, but still do ;)
