I travel an awful lot, when I was younger, I never thought I'd care for travelling, but honestly, I just can't get enough right now. My frequent stop is Japan, but I also go other places (usually in Asia, though some odd places in Australia now and then).
Anyway, Since I returned to Australia from Japan in September last year, I wanted to post some photo's, but always had problems, either with FTP, or too much work, or more travelling. But today I've found some time, and I'd like to share a few photo's.
Firstly, my most recent trip, Hong Kong. I returned from HK last Wednesday, and felt that people would like to see some of the photo's. Most of these are of birds, but there'll be my next trip tomorrow, with Taiwan, and the day after Japan, and the day after that, another Japan trip.
So try and enjoy. ^_^'
All the HK trip are taken with a 5D. Exif data is intact.

Wow there are some really nice photos there Steve.
I particularly like the birds 'in flight' or rather, the ones spreading its wings.
The Dolphin shot is great as well :)

I had pretty poor exposure for most of my Dolphin shots, but this one was easily fixed, and you got the idea that they were knocking ice cubes from the bucket. ^_^

The photo's are from Ocean Park HK. Very nice area, and the birds were very nice.

With the lookout, I wanted to give the impression of people being there, I setup my flash to that it illuminated the people looking.

Man this kind of photography makes me want a Nikon D70 even more so I can take up photography as a hobby... These are some good photos... Where did you learn to do all that fancy focusing on the foreground and leaving the background unfocused?

My boss took this photo on Monday at the nightcliff jetty.. He has like this $8000 camera...

Yeah, Nikon D2X's aren't a bad kit.

EDIT: Just realised I hadn't said what the effect of the blured background is.
Any camera is capable of it, but it's done deliberately. Basically you need a really low/open aperture, and the more you have it, the better the appearence.

The blur is called Bokeh, a play on the Japanese word boke, though some believe it's baka because only idiots use it. ^O^
By lowering the F Stop, you decrease the field of view. This also means more light gets to the capture surface. Without going into the specifics of it, the lower the F/Stop (in this case the F/Stop is 2.8) the more the effect. Also, the lower the number, the more expensive the lens will tend to be. You need larger, and more complex glass to achieve it. Most lenses on the market, start around f/3.5 or f/4.

nd now my Taiwan leg of the trip. Most of my time was taken up by a training coarse, so I didn't get much time for myself, but here's some of what I did get.
The training was to learn how to utilise a CNC Plate profiler (for those who don't understand that, you put in a piece of metal, and it plots it out with a flame or plasma cutter). I've taken a photo of the plasma cutter at work doing a little etching.

That storm front moving in is impressive Inferno. ^_~ The lightning over samford is also very good. Nice capture. ^_^

Toasthell, the picture056 is excellent. Next time, try a bit of a long exposure. The water may have come up really nice and soft. ^_~

Nice photos Ken :) I went to Japan on a class trip in October last year, but only for 9 days. Unfortunately I didn't have a camera of my own at that stage and I had to borrow an ancient FinePix with around 20 photos worth of storage :( I've managed to get some of other student's photos though. Thanks, we got an amazing amount of black frames up until the storm was upon us and then we started getting the good stuff.

I think it looks a bit grainy though, does anyone know how I can fix that next time? A different ISO setting or something?
