I thought the first game with graphics was Quake Online , when i was on 28.8 modem ;) i always had a ping of 900 to most servers :\ So I never could play...
But I could be wrong..
but I know there were countless number of text based mud games on the old boards way way before that ...

I remember there was a program called DWANGO, Dialup Wide Area Network Gaming Operation.
Not sure if you would consider it online.... but it was close, It came with doom 2 and was a sorta online gaming thing

I can't remember the name of the one I played on bbs's, but it was some army-like thingo. you built up bases/defences/troops then went on campaigns to wipe other players out. all text based :p
well, the placeholder graphics were ascii, but everything else was text ;)

what? mud's predate NWN by 20 years, and there were thousands of them.
ultima online predates nwn, so does asherons call.
unless you mean the poxy aol game, in which case the muds still predate it, by only a dozen or so years.

Not online but I still remember pod at the pub. Dad took out the family for dinner. It was the private bar. Cost of game either 5c, 10c or 20c.
