I've never really been a fan of Gigabyte, but I've never been a big fan of Asus either. Doesn't really effect me, but it's an interesting buy-out. Wonder how it will shape their product ranges in coming months.

asus laptops a pretty freaky :) "funky "

Uh, Gigabyte didn't buy Asus... They formed a joint venture. Basically created a new company run by Gigabyte, but owned by both (51% Gigabyte, 49% Asus).
Post 9
if u own 51% of a company then that makes you the primary shareholder, thus they have essentially "bought" asus, and gigabyte will be renaming the company and amalgamating it into theirs so id say thats fairy accurate that they have bought them

Please read what was in the original article... They didn't buy anybody out, they FORMED a joint venture... That is to say, they created a NEW company, not taken over an old one. Nobody took anybody over, it's a joint venture, Gigabyte simply hold 51% of the NEW company share, and Asus 49%

ASUBYTE/GIGASUS
51% - primary shareholder
49% - not
watever the world is still gona xplode

Perhaps an Analogy would help.
Gigabyte is the daddy, Asus is the Mummy.
Gigabyte and Asus get together and decide they want to have children, but just remain friends.
They have a bastard child
Asus and Gigabyte both continue to shape the bastard childs life, but only remain close friends.
---
If that doesn't work... One company says to the other company:
"Hey, if we join forces, we can create a new company that'll dominate the competitors completely"...
"yeah, that sounds like a great idea! Then we'll each put in nearly the same amount of money, but I'll put in just a little more, so I have the dominating share"
"sounds good to me."
So Asus and Gigabyte go out and create a new company. Asus still exist, Gigabyte still exist. They don't own each other at all. They've created a new company which uses their setup only.
Another way to look at it is to imagine a share system.
I might own shares in Telstra but it doesn't mean I've merged with it or bought it out.
