Looking to possibly grab a 5-600gig external (and portable) harddisk soon just for ease of use at home and to drag around with me to mate's places, etc. I've heard of a couple around that run USB2 / Wireless / LAN connections.
Anyone have one?
Looking for some feedback on brands, or experiences, or pricing, or where might be a good place to order/pick one up from and the like.
Got a ballpark in my head of around a dollar a gig, but yeh.. any help'd be awesome ;)
im my expirence if your just planning to drag and drop files from your own and other computers just grab a catty or USB to IDE cable (dont know if they do USB to SATA yet)
then your free to use whatever hard drive you like and swap and change it whenever.
If not then lacie (spelling) have a good lego looking one at resonable prices.
and by catty he means caddy.

hmm, k. I'll browse around. I guess the versatility of 100baseT or wireless was kinda why it tweaked my interest in getting a premade - even if I never use it :p

Yes, my friend have this device and 250 Gb hdd in it. I connect this to my computer at usb 2.0. All work pretty good.

Mediagate rocks as a drive enclosure... the latest one has wireless conectivity too, as well as ethernet and USB2 - has RCA s-video dolby connections etc too for hooking up to your TV so you can watch mpegs and divxes on it

remember when formatting that most NAS drive enclosures only can handle FAT32 not NTFS
checked that: this one says it handles both, but something about the default setting being fat32 because macs/98se machines won't be able to read it otherwise.
no dramas, I'll change it over to ntfs once this is done. - cheers :D
... usb drives are almost universally formatted to fat32. nas drives are formatted to whatever file system the nas drive OS uses, and are accessed via network shares, usually.

slightly different model to the one you bought, but yeah just watch out as most of them have this issue so if it doesnt work on ntfs when lanning it you know why
NTFS seems fine for USB2 and LANSharing. woot ;)
