It's out. You can get it at Internode
http://games.internode.on.net/filelist.php?filedetails=4508
or any other reputable site.

And now there is a 1.06 patch, already http://games.internode.on.net/filelist.php?filedetails=4563

Post 2

doesn't look like they've fixed the titan hover stat padding glitch.

Post 3

nor the titan turret resupply stat padding effort

good that they've stopped the titan being moved once the shields are down though: from an attack and defence point of view anyway - would be nice if they just fixed the bloody global coordinates inside the titans instead

edit: woohoo.. this is the one i wanted fixed - Enemy Squad Leader Spawn beacon is no longer visible on the 3dMap - sick of blowing up own team squad beacons

Post 4

EA don't release patches that fix problems -- they just create new ones.

Post 5

long as they dont reintroduce the BF2 - teammate showing as enemy bug I dont care :)

When you think about it, they're doing two contridictory things. First they're trying to impliment new content, but at the same time not trying to break exsisting 'things' within the engine.

I no doubt believe that the engine has some very nasty areas that the original designers of the engine have left it, and currently you have a host of developers trying to maintain the software after its 3-4 years old.

The best example i can give is the microsoft standard template library within C++. newier versions of the library use a different memory allocator than old library versions. So if you purchase a physics llibrary from company called A, they may use a newier or older version of the STL than yourself. So when you move data around in the system you have to be very very carefull of what allocated the memory and who is going to de-allocate the memory in the system. One STL will allocate a object to be 8 bytes and in the other version its 10 bytes instead, with 4 byte alignment.

My understanding is currently management in EA consider that the engine is a commercial product not a software product. So they may release 2-3 patches for the system, but after that will mabe move 2-3 developers to other projects and keep one guy on for patches and fixes to keep the product alive.

This is an excert from an anouncement EA made when they announced they were working on the 1.05 patch.

http://forums.ea.com/mboards/thread.jspa?sls=3&tstart=0&threadID=143089&lkey=RWLQkARHqgjogRF9CmaMdAAAKDw.
Quote:
The patches will also be entirely dedicated to correcting bugs and making fixes instead of introducing new gameplay mechanics, thus significantly reducing the risk of introducing new bugs with the patches.

In the same announcement they also said;
Quote:
our Dice Live Team is located at the Dice Studio in Stockholm and is made up of key people from the game project teams. This means that the same people who actually built Battlefield 2142 will be responsible for updating it. It has the clear advantage of involving people who are fully knowledgeable about the code and design of the game.

But how much can you trust as being truth. I hope all, but time will tell.

Post 8

oh is that from EA.... Yawn ...

Post 9

I think i can actualy trust what they're saying. Some development studios do not actualy talk about what they're doing.

Its easier to keep 3 people happy when each one pays you 1 million dollars each.
Its hard to keep 3 million people happy when each on pays you " dollar each.

Think of it this way, they piroritys are different than what you currentlly think they're.

Post 10

it's in their interests to NOT try adding new crap in at this stage. Just fixing the exploits will take enough manpower I'm sure. (even if they just fix the dodgy wall clipping in the titans). Although the BF2 vehicle drop would be nice...

Post 11

ZOMG the mother****ing cockholes...

they HAVE introduced another bug, all of a sudden I'm getting crashes to desktop whenever i try to join a server (have updated to 1.05). ****ERS

Post 12

Haven't had that problem yet.

Post 13

was immediate.. turned out the fix was to delete my cache folder in my documents/battlefield2142/mods/bf2142 <kill this folder> and to delete this file: ieContent.cache found at documents/battlefield2142/

looks like a lot of people had the problem, and this doesnt fix it for everyone, some people have to roll back their vid drivers to an earlier release! doooooooodgy

Post 14

Yeah I had a crash lastnight. Not cool.

Post 15

me got a fantastic crash too....

got to the end of the round and about a split second before the scores are shown and I believe I was about to be awarded my first gold star... and wouldn't ya know the stats didn't count. :(

Post 16

that chache stuff above may sort it for you, and as for the gold star kerrnal... "the one that got away was THIS BIG!" ;P

Post 17

Do you guys have the DVD version or the EA Downloader version?

Post 18

DVD bugger that EA downloader.. we've seen what they do to games, imagine what they'd do to a content delivery system!

Post 19

If you know someone with the downloader version, you can use their exe as a no cd.

Post 20

I have the downloader version and still get CTD's - tried deleting cache files and still get CTD's. I have read that it could be related to Video Driver version - will roll back to earlier version to test.

Post 21

also, if you have any other problems, many seem to resolved in this thread:

Post 22

I fixed my problem, uninstalled it and not going to even bother trying to fix it. Just never going to buy another EA game or EA game affilate product for the remainder of my life.

Post 23

Talk about funny, here is a link all you people having crashes will be interested in. http://games.internode.on.net/filelist.php?filedetails=4563
This is a link to, wait for it....... BF2142 v1.06 patch.
Enjoy

Post 24

damn, that was quick.

Post 25

20mb to fix one tiny bug??

Post 26

It's the full patch. No incrementals are being distributed for 2142. Apparently they had problems in BF2 with incrementals. Plus without introducing new features, they can get away with keeping it small :)

Post 27

Bah I had 2 crashes tonight after I installe dthe patch.

Pissweak.

Post 28

Sorry about all your crashes. I thought this would happen as the same thing happened and randomly still happens to me with BF2, hence I chose to wait off buying this game.

How can one company stuff up so many times, yet ppl still buy their product?

Post 29

I haven't had any crashes with either game, but I know others have had heaps. It really is shoddy programming.

Post 30

before 1.05 i only had very rare CTDs.. havent had a chance to play since 1.06 came out... *withdrawl symptons*

Post 32

you forgot format c$ at 25.

Post 33

And you have to do this for a game you paid for? I would return it and ask for refund as the product is defective.

Seriously, you buy a game and have that to do to get it working. Flood EA with complaints.

Post 34

hehe i think the whole flooding EA thing has been done - would certainly account for account servers being up the durry so often :)

Post 35

I haven't had any problems but people that have used this to fix it. Just trying to be helpful here.
