Lothar, can U give us more reason why to click?? It could be going towards an $8000 plasma for all I know... What are you planning to wireless??? Are you building extra nodes, or fitting in some server hardware, what are you doing?? And what areas will it cover if it's wireless coverage???

If won the money will be going towards, not limited to, New Ap's (linksys wrt54gl), amps, Cable (the low loss stuff), Pigtails, End connectors, J-bars, a few masts (9m and 15m ones), Shrouds to suit, possibly a hardware upgrade of the web server.

Important points to get connected are The Mansions, The Uni, Palmo, Winellie. We need hardware for all those points.

We also like to get a link between Darwin cuty and palmo... across the water.

Edit: forgot Palmo

Got any more info on this then?? What's it used for??? (OK I Know what wireless equipment is used for....) Prolly more detail about why you want and need this stuff. Is it like the "darwin wireless" community on that other forum?? Is it a public networkfor all, or a closed mates-only thing???

In regards to coverage, if you are lucky enough to see something similar to the following with a wireless device -

Quote:
SSID: "ntfreenet.org"
Mode: Ad Hoc RSSI: -49 dBm noise: -90 dBm Channel: 1
BSSID: 1C:ED:C0:FF:EE:05 Capability: IBSS
Supported Rates: [ 1(b) 2(b) 5.5(b) 11(b) ]

Try associating with it and check out the web interface.

You can get a decent image of active community members via this map. It musn't be taken as a 'coverage map' though. While a lot of the markers represent active nodes, it is more akin to a 'future/proposed network'.

Info regarding the 'actual' state of the network can be found here. We are currently trying to implement a nice nodemap developed by the guys over at http://wind.cube.gr/ (We could do with some help integrating it into our site if anyone here understands greek and/or php ;) )

Have a read through the CWOF. This document essentially outlines our policy/purpose.

And No, we havent sat down and budgeted what, why, and where we would spend any potential prizemoney, this is mostly due to the fact that it is only a competition. It would be rather depressing spending money we dont have. What do people suggest to purchase?

Whats certain is that anything spent would be done openly for all to see in this thread and our forums.

Whilst there are some very mixed opinions among us as to whether we should be putting our hands out to the public like this, (damn it feels cheap) it can only do good for 'the network' in the end.
