i have been trying to get an adsl service connected at my house for around 8 months. I live in parap on Hudson Fysh Avenue and the houses either side of me and opposite me can all recieve adsl.
I have been told that the transmission loss would be too great over my phone line (one of many reasons). When i asked how much it would cost to have my phone line relayed, they told me it would be "0k per meter.
Is there any other way to pester tel$tra to get adsl to my house?
Ring Teltra Country Wide on 1800 687 829 ask for Stuart. Explain your dilemma and if anything can be done this nice helpful chap will find out.
If that doesnt help, ring them at least twice a week and ask when it will be done. After months about 3 months they will shudder at the sound of your voice and will do anything to get you off their backs include laying new cable.
Theres no reason i can think of why you would be denied ADSL. I just took the RIM out of that area about 3 months ago... so you can get adsl.... you already have a copper line to your house obviously and thats the same line we use to put the ADSL over....
So I have no idea why they're doing that to you if other people in your area can get it.... call Telstra country wide like Sponge said, if they still cant help tell them you are going to complain about it to the Telstra 'Ohmbudsman' (sp?) and they'll act on it then.
I know there are line available in that area so im stumped.

Yeah thanks anyway, I already knew.... :(
Apparently it would cost tens of thousands to do, and if I remember correctly over a hundred grand. I dont know if this was correct or not as I have no idea of the actual costings of these things. It just sucks being one of only about two streets in Howard Springs that is unable to access ADSL. Meanwhile the govt continues to shell out $3000 per house to install a crappy vsat on each roof.
You dont know if Long Line ADSL will work if I'm connected to an RCM do you??? I could easily get the 4 connections required to have one fitted if it does.

I second the notion and get some recordings of it for all to see.
thanks for everyones help, i rang telstra country wide this arvo. According to Stuart, Telstra are in the process of moving the town exchange from Smith st to Daly st.. However parap is one of the suburbs that haven't been moved across to this new exchange as of yet, hopefully its soon though!
You can do what Spongey said and call everyday for as long as you can and ask for it.... and then get as many people in the area on the same RCM and get them to sign a partition or something saying they want ADSL and they dont want to be singled out because everywhere else can get it.... "Upgrade the RCM!"
BTW You CAN get ADSL off a RIM... IF it has the equipment in it.

Yeah that's my next step.. It's just finding the time for the walk up and down the street to annoy the neighbours...

The rim around the corner is adsl-enabled, there was talk about running a cable from it to my cabinet but that got kyboshed as well. Something to do with a costs estimate of "50k.

Is that a possibility??? I asked about transposition in the past, they told me it wasn't possible. My understanding is that theres no cabling in place to make it doable.
