Does anyone here know if a sump from an HX Holden will fit in an LX Torana. I'm swapping motors and they *look* identical but I want to be sure before I go stuffing aruond trying make it fit when it wont.

Post 2

have a look at where teh engine mounts are as to where your block will sit.

HQ-WB sumps are on the rear side of the crossmember and im not sure if this is the same for the Lx......

According to a few of the parts listings i have found you can buy a sump for a 253/308 that will fit HQ-WB & LH,LX and UC torana so ( assumining :/ ) that your engins should be a straight swap

hrmm need more info to answer correctly, are you using a 253, 308 or a 202 motor? most should fit though...

I swapped tons of engines in LH-LX-UC toranas but for the life of me I dont remember any sump swapping. Anyway you could just pull the sump off your old block, give it a degrease and a paint, and bolt it onto the new block. (providing you aint going from a six to an eight)

While the block is out it'd be a good time to drop the front crossmember and swap all the bushes for nolathane too... Funnily enough every torana I messed with had cracks in the chassis where the rear bolts of the front end hooked up... We must have hammered them up Dukes Of Hazzard style.

No cracks in my chassis and the motor was straight fit so w00t for easynes (Relatively >.>). Now for the fun part, working out why the POS wont fire...it tries to, and it ran for 10 seconds a few times before blowing a huge arse flame out the exhaust...and I know the timing is fine...so yeah, good times.

I remember my little Bluebird used to do the same thing.

Yeah there is 23897626354 vaccum lines running off the carby and manifolds, I have been going at my car non stop since 11:00am Wednesday without sleep, so Im going to get some rest and come back to it in the morning. If I cant get it to work I'll bite the bullet, rebuild my triple SU's and shove them on it cause I know they work and I know where everything goes.

Edit: Now the flames coming out the carby - timing is definately fine - not exactly progress but hey its different :p

Cracked the shits, pulled the distributor out to swap it with my old one I know works, and find a tooth has been snapped off the nylon rotor at the bottom. So I had the timing right...for 1 revolution. Starts and runs now, just need to tune it up.
