When I say I've eaten a lot of beef jerky in my time, I mean I've eaten a lot of beef jerky.
Up until now, Top End/Territory Jerky has held the crown, without competition. All other available products I got my hands on focused too much on a variety of spice and have always been too chewy. There's a spot just out of Hahndorf here in SA that does there own which is rather awesome, but I can't just drive out there whenever I feel like some.
Roadkill Beef Jerky, discoverd on Adelaide's West Tce (bottle-shop and BP service station), is not just as good; it's better. Chunkier, tastier, and dry enough to actually be jerky.

Shop in Alice Springs makes good jerky, although it gets expensive as you have to buy it by the kg, and it being in Alice. Best jerky by far is home made, usually from buffalo. Store bought crap doesn't even come close.
Maybe everyone sells it in Perth, but it's damn hard to find anywhere else in AU. Select places in Adelaide, and I never saw it in Sydney. According to Google results it is found in select places in Darwin too.
I've never seen Bullbar anywhere except Perth.
Regardless - availability doesn't dictate quality, just popularity. If it's everywhere, perhaps that's saying something? :)
The stuff i tried at Stoula's shop, the biltong stuff (not the one in the blue packet) but real good biltong, long thin strips in a clear plastic with white carboard top. That shit is the best.
Roadkill has been far too heavily spiced and marinated.
You need a good biltong where you can actually taste the meat.
there is more biltong on the shelves here than jerky, and every bit of it is foul. also, biltong undergoes a different preparation to jerky (different process, different ingredients)
then again i suppose if you dont like bullbar/roadkill, your tastes are completely dissimilar to mine :)
i'll see that restaurant and raise you punjab, it's five minutes from home and is simply the best indian i've ever had. being in adelaide isn't an 'if' for me, it's a when, most of my family (apart from parents) lives there.
Brain dance, while you're in the area, go a bit further to Scarborough and get a Scarborough Beach Pizza for the morning after your curry. Quite comparable to Pizza King in Hibiscus.
my local stocks Prime Country Beef Jerky. which as far as jerky goes, tastes awesome. marinade just blends perfectly with a bourbon too.
no idea how it compares however, mainly because Sydney doesn't really see alot of jerky variety from what I've seen - shame too, wouldn't mind checking out any of these others.
anyone know a good online order/deliver site?
funnily enough though, Prime's based in WA. http://www.aussieweb.com.au/map.aspx?id=1811801
