New best beef jerky... Roadkill.

Update: you can now buy this stuff online!

When I say I've eaten a lot of beef jerky in my time, I mean I've eaten a lot of beef jerky.

Up until now, Top End/Territory Jerky has held the crown, without competition. All other available products I got my hands on focused too much on a variety of spice and have always been too chewy. There's a spot just out of Hahndorf here in SA that does there own which is rather awesome, but I can't just drive out there whenever I feel like some.

Roadkill Beef Jerky, discoverd on Adelaide's West Tce (bottle-shop and BP service station), is not just as good; it's better. Chunkier, tastier, and dry enough to actually be jerky.

If you're a jerky fan and you spot it, try it.

But I can, tell me where.

Shop in Alice Springs makes good jerky, although it gets expensive as you have to buy it by the kg, and it being in Alice. Best jerky by far is home made, usually from buffalo. Store bought crap doesn't even come close.

Apparently rated just as highly as Roadkill by jerky fans. I've only had it once though, I can't really remember.

Verdict: 'Roadkill' & 'Bullbar' far and above the rest in the jerky stakes

road-kill is simply the best

minorci bought 330$ of jerky from my gf's shop once hehe

Post 9

The dollar sign goes before the number.

Still recovering from your birthday celebrations? :P

Post 10

Everyone sells Roadkill; it's the Maccas of the jerky world.
Bullbar FTW.

Post 11

Maybe everyone sells it in Perth, but it's damn hard to find anywhere else in AU. Select places in Adelaide, and I never saw it in Sydney. According to Google results it is found in select places in Darwin too.

I've never seen Bullbar anywhere except Perth.

Regardless - availability doesn't dictate quality, just popularity. If it's everywhere, perhaps that's saying something? :)

Post 12

stuart park shops has both bullbar and roadkill. tried roadkill today was good might give bullbar a try tomorrow.

Post 13

I don't like Roadkill, or Bullbar.

The stuff i tried at Stoula's shop, the biltong stuff (not the one in the blue packet) but real good biltong, long thin strips in a clear plastic with white carboard top. That shit is the best.

Roadkill has been far too heavily spiced and marinated.

You need a good biltong where you can actually taste the meat.

Post 14

biltong is foul.

Post 15

Yeah I can't stand the stuff either. A jerky abomination.

Post 16

Cant you be bothered to type in your own nick and pwd?

Post 17

I never said that blue shit called Biltong...

You do know Biltong is a word for jerky?

Post 18

there is more biltong on the shelves here than jerky, and every bit of it is foul. also, biltong undergoes a different preparation to jerky (different process, different ingredients)

then again i suppose if you dont like bullbar/roadkill, your tastes are completely dissimilar to mine :)

Post 19

I only like the dry stuff not the rubbery plastic type stuff which makes me sick.

Post 20

well tried bullbar today.
Prefer the flavour of roadkill but the bullbar had the better texture.

Post 21

Will order some more Bullbar to remind myself, but I'm not sure how it can get better than Roadkill. Best. Jerky. EVAR.

Post 22

have you tried the "Ring Burner" flavour?

...and YES it does live up to it's name ;(

Post 23

no it doesn't. it's weaksauce

Post 24

The hot flavour is the only Roadkill I buy; the plain stuff is... well, plain. I like spice. But it's definately not "hot."

Post 25

spice controls the universe

Post 26

At least we agree on one thing. If you're ever in Adelaide, I'll take you to a place that does a vindaloo that's so hot it'll make you hullucinate.

Post 27

i'll see that restaurant and raise you punjab, it's five minutes from home and is simply the best indian i've ever had. being in adelaide isn't an 'if' for me, it's a when, most of my family (apart from parents) lives there.

if you walk without rhythm, then you won't attract the worm.

Post 29

This place doesn't do outstanding Indian (although still good), it does hot Indian.

For the best Indian I've ever had, we'll visit Beyond India in North Adelaide. ;)

A few times I've been around that track; but it's just not gonna happen like that.

Paladin is right. Punjab in Innaloo FTW.

Post 31

Anyone know if an internet order site exists for dry beef jerky, none of the soggy crap you see at the shops. :)

Post 32

It's called a PM. Send me one. :)

Post 33

But PMs are so. Personal.

Post 56

my local stocks Prime Country Beef Jerky. which as far as jerky goes, tastes awesome. marinade just blends perfectly with a bourbon too.

no idea how it compares however, mainly because Sydney doesn't really see alot of jerky variety from what I've seen - shame too, wouldn't mind checking out any of these others.

anyone know a good online order/deliver site?

funnily enough though, Prime's based in WA.

hey, dude, it's okay! we dont judge people here! Look at rec =)

The Bullbar flavour is awesome. Really awesome.

My initial impressions were "omgsh this is the best stuff ever", but after a few packets over the last week, I'm kind of sick of it already.

The spices create a really vivid flavour, but it gets a bit much. Apart from that, I like dryer, stiffer jerky.

Back to Roadkill, for me.
