Do we know if it will run without DX10?

Post 6

DX9 is fine. Min requirements...

CPU: Athlon 64 3000+/Intel 2.8GHz
Graphics: NVIDIA 6600/X800GTO (SM 2.0)
RAM: 768MB/1GB
HDD: 6GB
Internet: 256k+
Optical Drive: DVD
Software: DX9.0c with Windows XP

And I've added another screen just to get us all excited. ;)

Post 7

Can't wait.

Post 8

om gomg ogmomgomgomgomg

what is this?

Post 9

Go to youtube and check out a few of the vids.
It's a 'successor' to Farcry - only alot better.

Post 10

Damn specs its gonna barely play on my new lappy. Hopefully I can hold off on the new comp and don't get sucked in, but I probably will.

Post 11

I just hope its not all fancy graphics and no gameplay.

Post 12

You mean like FarCry? With terrible voice acting and shoddy b-grade American script writing? Count on it. But I'm still going to play it just to druel at the graphics. :)

Zomg you can't say that!

Go to your room Rec.

You can come out when you have nice things to say about Far Cry.

The MP at DGA was good fun at least.
Drool, btw :p

Post 15

trailors look ****ing awesome but would kill my current system.

Post 16

far cry 'purely' as a game was great

good level design (artwise and constructive wise)
fantastic AI for its time (better than doom 3 and half life 2)

it did suck though at the end when they shoddily bumped up the difficulty level and made it gay

now far cry as an "experience" yes i have to agree was terrible. bad acting. bad plot. but hey; it is, what it is. just like (and yes im going to get burned here ) just like transformers the movie. it is what it is.

on the topic on min requirements for crysis.
go check out the min requirements for the john woo/chow yun fatt game Stranglehold.

your eyes will bleed

Post 17

Thats probably because the PC version of Stranglehold is a crappy port.

Post 18

Please don't compare the lameness of FarCry to the greatness of the Transformers movie. :)

Post 22

I will consider going Vista when I upgrade in the next couple of months.

DirectX 9 vs. DirectX 10 Jungle Fight HD
[gt]19965[/gt]

DirectX 9 vs. DirectX 10 Hunter HD
[gt]19967[/gt]

Post 23

Err, im pretty sure ive seen vids with it running fine in DX 9. Unless that pausing the vid stuffing up.

Post 24

Hrmmm.

I want to play this in DX10, but I don't want to install vista ;(

Post 25

Are both those vids running at like 1fps for everyone else?

Post 26

On these store machines, yes. But they're pieces of shit. :)

Post 27

That Hunter... Actualy looks scarey and interesting, I like this new Crysis already :D

No but you have to wait for the downloaded video to catch up before playing the whole thing. pause it before it starts playing.

Post 29

With Vista Sp1 on it's way, I'm hoping Sp1 hits before this game does.
It's supposed to be addressing alot of general performance problems.

That said, I will probably still ghost my drive, install vista and finish Crysis, then image from the backup :p

Post 30

With DirectX 10.1 now being announced and that it will be released with SP1, I don't think you will see it until 2008.

edit: however after reading the article in more detail and checking other comments, I could be wrong. The DX10.1 hardware probably won't be out till 2008 but SP1 might be.

Post 31

Yeah, I'm hoping Sp1 does make it prior to Crysis, but it won't stop me either way.
This game looks too sexy to be ignored :)

10.1 adds virtually nothing that they will care about and, more to the point, adds almost nothing that developers are likely to care about. The spec revision basically makes a number of things that are optional in DX10 compulsory under the new standard - such as 32-bit floating point filtering, as opposed to the 16-bit current.

Quote:
Here's the thing. DX10 hardware - such as the GeForce 8800 or the Radeon 2900 - won't work with the new 10.1 features. The 0.1 revision requires completely new hardware for support, thus royally cheesing off many gamers who paid top whack for their new hardware over the last few months on the basis of future game compatibility

Linkies.

Post 33

If 10.1 adds nothing then people who bought 10.0 hardware shouldn't really be cheesed?

Post 34

I doubt that SP1 will be out before the game but they wont be far apart from each other.

Correct, however what is to say that future game developers won't make DX10.1 a requirement for their games.

Admittedly that is unlikely to happen (As DX has traditionally had a good forward compatibility track record until DX10 in regards to point revisions), but it's still a possibility.

The point in fact though, is that a point-release should not be incompatible with the latest hardware. Going from 8 to 10, or even as its occured, 9 to 10, is fair enough. There were major cross-platform changes that occurred.

But 10 to 10.1 requiring new hardware, when the newest most compatible will be less than 12 months (?) old, is a bit disappointing to say the least.

Post 36

I believe 9.0 to 9.0c required a hardware change to take advantage of the new shaders. I feel it's a little disappointing considering aparently the .1 upgrade of DX10 was already planned.
Quote:
For argument’s sake, Direct3D 10.1 didn’t come out of the blue. Microsoft had always planned for a 10.1 update when they released version 10. However that is no excuse as to why is it not compatible with DX10 hardware?

Post 37

the excuse is that nvidia and ati couldn't get the hardware ready for the spec, which was originally in 10.0. it was removed, now it's added again. it's no big deal.
