PC demo avail early. Available on Usenet via your newshosting service (if you have one).

Has also hit Torrent... http://torrents.thepiratebay.org/3778797/BioShock_PC_Demo.3778797.TPB.torrent

If you're a FilePlanet subscriber you can get it from there... http://www.fileplanet.com/176066/170000/fileinfo/BioShock-Demo

Edit: Usenet files incomplete. Torrent speeds woeful with over 6000 leechers. FilePlanet overloaded and unavailable. Official Bioshock website has gone down.

Post 6

cheers :D id love to see how this game turns out!!

Post 7

It's on Internode file server now too.

I'm going to play in a moment.

Post 8

going to download it tonight.. see how i go..

Post 9

What I got to play of it before it crashed was f*cking awesome.

I then uninstalled the recommended beta drivers and rolled-back to my old ones. This stopped the artifacts, but the game still crashed.

Hopefully it's a buggy demo and not my video card dying.

Post 10

I just installed and had a play, it is very promising. Although the insistence of Bioshock installer to upgrade my drivers did cause one of my displays to bugger up, I rolled back to a previous driver and it was all good.
It even has widescreen mode.
Looks like I will be buying this.

Rec, I had the same problems with the beta drivers.
Game hasn't crashed for me though. I guess I should play it some more and see if I can get it to crash.

Post 11

No SM2.0 support right?

Post 12

So I think a 360 purchase is in order then :P

Post 13

Would rather spend $700 on comp :P

Post 14

well, I have a 360 :P

it was just a choice of what I buy it for :P

and I think from the sounds of the issues people are having, I might pick it up for my 360.

Post 15

pre ordered... will released on FRI in Darwin (EB's claim :D)

The only issue I had was using the beta drivers that the game recommends. Using the latest certified drivers cause no problems at all.

Post 17

DAMMM demo is 1.84 gig download.. love internode file libary.. :)

Post 18

Just finished it twice.
The game is awesome. Hacked security bots ftw.

Post 19

lol hacking is playing pipes hehehe

Post 20

Downloading now with 7.8 ATI driver update.... thank god for internodes file server

Post 21

It ran suprisingly beautiful on my PC res (better with old drivers, shitter with beta ones). Should be fine on yours too.

Post 22

Burn please :)

Post 23

You lazy sod... your a node customer... download it!

Post 24

Pretty Schmick imo. Played not too shabby on my 6600gt too :D lol

Post 25

You were right rec, played no problems whatsoever.

Updated to Cataylst 7.8 then installed the game. Its a short demo only took me 30 minutes and that was me walking to every corner I could in each room.

I'm in two minds about the gameplay though. The end screen says there are over 70 Plasmids. Now the plasmids were cool but 70 come on. Its also got too much going on in hacking the bots etc.

I'm comitted to ETQW and TF2 and that will probably do me.

The graphics were excellent, I thought I was still watching a movie when you surface from the crash only to find that the fire and water is you starting the game.... very impressive. I'm going to go through it again and turn the graphics right up to see if it makes a difference.

Anybody got it running using the DX10 surfaces? If so some comparsion screenshots running DX9 Vs DX10 would be good to see.

Post 26

Apparently the game can take up to 20 hours if not rushed through - that in itself is an achievment (HL2 = 5-8 hours). From my perspective, at the end of the day it's just a single player title though, even if a damn fine one. These days the only time I'm comfortable spending $60+ on a game is if it has months and months of longevity and value, and for me that doesn't include any single player game even if it's the best ever made.

It's one I'll definately "rent" and most certainly appreciate. If the demo is anything to go by it could put itself up there with some of my most memorable single player experiences (Mafia, Thief, Broken Sword)... that said, I'll still be saving my cash for ETQW/TF2 also.

Post 27

I ran it max everything, no signs of slowdown at all.
8600GTS under Vista, using the beta vista revision driver set.

Will try to find a link if anyones interested in them.

Post 28

We're talking Epic and the Unreal Engine after all - they aren't amateurs. It's not a Monolith or EA engine. :)

Post 29

i found the game good.. ran find on my card all graphic up on full..
will be down.. err i mean buying this game when it comes out

Post 30

Bioshock config.ini...

Quote:
[Console]

Console (XBox360, PS3) specific settings

StreamingDynamicFloatingLimit:

If this is a positive number, then instead of using the fixed per-level

limits, the StreamingDynamic resource will use as much memory as is

available as long as the total memory allocated by the game is less than
the specified number. In other words, StreamingDynamic will grow and
shrink to fit to the available memory instead of being locked to a fixed
budget StreamingDynamicFloatingLimit=500

Might wind up on the PS3 after all.

Post 31

got give away? i would like to see the difference between the ps3 and the 360 if/when bioshock hits the ps3, a good game to see the difference in the machines imo

Post 32

Might have a look tonight.

Post 33

The Demo is somewhat short and very much scripted.
Hasn't stopped me finishing it 5 times though.

Post 34

It just annoys me that you can not skip the intro :(
*starts up game*.....*gets a cup of coffee*

Post 35

Or save

edit: Internode has ATI Bioshock Hotfix files

For those with XP

For those with Vista

There must be issues somewhere but I had none
