wtf? so people don't have the right to say what they want on the internet either?

if thats the case every single negative thing said could become a lawsuit...

what happened to.... the company gets bad a reputation.. so they work harder to improve there product and start to get a good reputation? simple...

While it is ridiculous, we don't have any freedom of speech enshrined in law in Australia, aside from some for the pollies. So they are well within their rights legally to sue for defamation. Suing the site owner is pretty shithouse tho they should go after the poster if anyone.

it's a *really* bad precedent to set though. in theory i could go hang out behind the set of sunrise and hold up a sign that said, for example, "DELL IS SHIT! BUY ASUS" or something, then Dell could sue Seven (or Nine, whoever makes that show). which leads to something else - if this goes through, whats to stop con artists paying some little pleb to go and do exactly this so that they can sue someone for hundreds of thousands?

you've never had the right to say what you want, when what you want to say is defamatory or libellious.

now, i have no idea of what was said in these threads, but if it's simply people stating their own experiences with, and opinions of the company, and not making erroneous factual statements, then it should be fine.

Just be aware that 2clix could sue you as well for injurious falsehood :p.

Talk about shooting your self in the foot. 2clix wanted whirlpool to remove the threads that people stated their experience of the said software, but now the whole world knows about 2clix and their software.

I mean, I'm a software engineer, and I understand that making commercial software is bloody hard, but reading the threads, it appears that 2clix hired graduates to write their software.

That happened to the Overclockers and Atomic forums a while back with Gamedude - they threatened to sue, so every post bagging Gamedude had to be deleted.

2clix might actually get somewhere if they took onboard any "constructive" criticism sent their way.

If six people say that you're a jackass, then the problem isn't with those 6 people....

I doubt 2Clix will win this lawsuit and I bet they've already generated more negative publicity from trying to sue WP than a few WP threads bitching about their product would.

2CliCKSS is suing under that name while it's still in use. They're currently jumping ship to another fresh untarnished name. So even if this manages to destroy the 2CliCKSS name, they've already gone elsewhere.

Kind of like how another forum and certain members is being sued because people say their products are shit (and they are shit!).

Company tried to sue website, but wasn't able to due to the 'agreement' that is present on most forums where website isn't responsible blah blah.

Now the users who were trying to be sued, are now suing them back, and it looks like they're going to get it too.

even if they change their name i think the negative backlash this will cause will far outweigh any benefits they could see from it.

people always underestimate the consequences of things like this. I'd imagine pissing off the entire WP community can't end in a happy result for that company.
