And thats that. Its taken a long time but i was sent to alice springs for work and they put me up in a hotel with no kitchen or anything. I'm now 90kg and have no six pack the heat is affecting me a lot more then it used to and I have had enough. so as of monday the 29th of october I'm going to do something about it. attached pics or of my diet in alice and me and my fat.
My plan is to work out eat better now that im back in darwin and drink less beer will keep a log of my weight each week and take pics as well. any hints and tips will help specially on the nutrition side of it.
Hey pimp - im also after any other good food remedies
So far my diet consists of: MONDAY - FRIDAY: morning - yogurt brunch - apple lunch - banana after lunch - orange (sometimes skip this and have another banana) dinner - 1 piece of meat no bigger than my fist.
Workout - ride to uni (20 mins there - 20mins back) if no uni, then do a 45 min bike ride.
2 weeks - starting FINALLY going to the gym. If anyone is interested im a weak ****er (starting out) - but will be going to CDU GYM. I will be attending Monday - Friday if anyone is interested.
This was my dinner last night and lunch today and i have to finish off the last of my beer in the fridge. im also going to have a sunday sesh at the deck bar tonight to say good my to the bad stuff. and hello to the good stuff.
Welcome to the club...when I was racing BMX and doing physical work I was 65kg, since my knees died and I had to give it up and I got a desk job, Ive gone up to a huge 90kg (Im only 5'6").
Ive stopped eating anything crap and started going to the gym recently.
HAH BLOODY HAH, good luck sticking to those diets of yours, especialy you brownie, I'd estimate quiting within say 4 weeks 6 tops. And change that diet of your asap you will make yourself sick, the number of meals if you can call them that is correct but you need to eat more, at least 2 pieces of fruit when you have them, also you need to incorperate veggies, eggs, nuts even. Jaian, yours is quite reasonable. As for cutting out carbs good luck, yeah it works but it keeps you hungry as carb are usually the filler part of any meal. And as for exercise theres no need to go to the gym bodywieght is more than enough for anyone not training for sport eg push ups, pull ups, chin ups, squats, lunges, cycling, skipping, and unseen is right kick boxing can be a real killer workout if you put in the effort.
Quote from Jaian;326879: I'm one step ahead of you, just went shopping today, my lunch at work this week will consist of:
Sliced Turkey Breast Cherry Tomatoes Snow Peas Raw Spinach
My dinner will be
Grilled Salmon/Tuna/Chicken (will rotate each day) Steamed Squash Steamed Broccoli
With small snacks of crackers/tuna in between, and cutting down the beer to maybe 2-3 pints a week, only on the weekends.
Now I'll just have to start jogging and weights again to make the diet useful.
I would recommend avoiding such bland food. It is going to make it harder if youre eating uninteresting, flavourless food.
Eat whatever you want but skip the processed carbs, sweets, chocolates etc. Drink heaps of water and focus on the vegies, protein and fruit.
Do lots of cardio work and you will lose it in no time. I would recommend doing exercise you enjoy... if youre making yourself go to the gym to do some regimented program you are more likely to get bored and quit.
Losing weight/keeping fit shouldn't be punishment so avoid the fads and get back to basics. Eat well and make sure your output > input.
re brownie: eat more. You need to eat lots more to lose weight. Just eat clean/good food.
With carbs, you can't cut them out as they're essential to a diet. Just watch what and when you eat them. eg. Wholemeal bread instead of white, brown rice instead of ordinary white grains etc.
Do something everyday. but never before you've eaten in the morning.
actually. the best way to lose 'fat', not weight is to do cardiovascular as soon as you wake up.
simplest way, is to jog
so in essence, as soon as you wake up, get on the treadmill or jog outside. you wont have anything in your stomach so your body turns to your fat for the energy required
just cut out drinking sessions, and if your in one, just drink less. I'd say eat anything thats homemade, just made sure that your proportions are less. Like its fine to eat red meat, just don't eat more than the size of your palm.
I don't really like drinking copeous amounts of water throughout the day, unless I'm playing tennis or basketball. If you get bored of it, I like mineral water with one lemon in it. Its just like a nice ol' school sour lemonade. :)
Quote: To eat, or not to eat before early morning exercise. That is the question for people who go for a jog or hit the gym in the morning hours. The answer depends on what you want from your workout. The official fitness line is that eating before morning exercise gives you the energy necessary to actually get a decent workout. But then there's the idea that if your stomach is empty, you'll force your body to burn stored fat.
It turns out that both ideas are right -- sort of. Studies have shown that exercising on an empty stomach does burn a bit more body fat. But it also tends to result in shorter workouts. Plus, not eating before exercise can make you feel so hungry afterward that you may end up eating more than you otherwise would.
So if you're looking for a strong, sustained workout, it?s probably best to eat a little something before burning off the calories. http://soundmedicine.iu.edu/segment.php4?seg=1020
Eat before exercise, it'll help get longer exercises which is better for the metabolism.
Ok what Jay sort of works but I disagree. I believe keeping a balanced diet should maintain your energy levels anyway
Its better to eat light meals after exercise since your metabolism works faster after exercise and if you eat before you don't actually work off any of the pre existing fat.
If you manage your diet well then you should be able to have high energy levels anyway and not have to snack before a workout.
If you are going to snack before a workout go with the BANANA!!!!! They have high energy low fat and fill you up :D
if you eat healthy and you buy a good one it will blow torch off the fat, at a ridiculous rate, problem i noticed tho is if you dont work out enough it will make you feel tired. just my experience.
dam i feel like a beer right now, and i still have 2 in the fridge mmmm beeeer.
well i have completed my first day got home from work went straight to the oval and did a bit of resistance with my own body weight and then sprints i felt like spewing after sprints but now i feel good. cant wait for tomorrow.
the caffeine in protein gives u an energy kick for working out, it's there to help with that little extra burst of energy....speeds up your metabolism too
do people use protein supplements to lose weight? that seems kind of counter-intuitive to me... you supplement with protein to put on muscle mass, don't you?
losing weight is basically a numbers game - energy intake (eating) vs. energy usage (exercise). why would you want to increase your food intake by supplementing using a protein shake? or do you replace some of the diet with protein supplements?
if you're eating and sleeping right your energy levels should be fine, caffiene seems unnecessary - even a little gimmicky. also like i said if you're looking to put on muscle mass you should be steering clear of all diuretics.
Fat loss != weight loss. It isn't as simple as how much you're eating compared to how much you're using in exercise. Muscles weigh more than fat, your body uses a fair amount of energy each day to maintain. Hence muscle brings your metabolism up and leads to more fat loss.
Protein shakes help keep your balance of c/p/f while maintaining daily intake for your body. Also gives your muscles nutrients so they're not among the first to be cannibalised for energy.
Caffeine works by increasing your metabolism, even though it's a diuretic your body is burning more energy. Reason why they recommend increasing daily water intake when drinking anything with caffeine.
tard you would be surprised how much protein powder helps you loose weight....
You need a really good balance of cardio and weights. I know a few guys from TRG, numerous PTI's from the army and have researched it quite a lot.
But utter basic rule is
More Muscle = More Muscle to burn fat
After weights sessions I have my protein shake to help the muscles recover and build better.
In one more week I will be doing my cutting cycle again with a little help.
Essentially when I have time it is weights on Monday - Tuesday - Friday with cardio (walking the dog up a mountain) every other day and a bike ride or two.
I've only just started my health kick again anyway...
But my breakfast is a serve of porridge with a tablespoon of flax seed oil and honey or no honey.
In between meals i just munch on a few nuts. Almonds are great. Lunch is usually a salad sandwhich or fruit. Dinner is something quite high in protein, so turkey, chicken, some meats and fish :)
hmm, well i've learned something =) i'd never even thought about it from a weight loss perspective so it just seemed a little wierd to me. i'm an ectomorph/mesomorph so my problem is keeping on muscle mass not losing fat.
well i wont be working out today. as my muscles hurt from sprinting yesterday. i might see if i can do some sit ups or push ups or something. On the bright side i am now 87.5 kilos not sure if that was just liquid weight coming off awaiting to return once i have some water or not but its all looking good from the scales point of view.
I need to join a gym does anyone know the cheapest gym apart from the pcyc at berrimah?
Quote from uber tard;327218: hmm, well i've learned something =) i'd never even thought about it from a weight loss perspective so it just seemed a little wierd to me. i'm an ectomorph/mesomorph so my problem is keeping on muscle mass not losing fat.
see attachment. it's a very basic (often said to be oversimplistic) way to classify body types. used in fitness/bb circles because different body types require different training methods and diets to achieve weight gain.
okay, if you not an arsehole i can get u onto raaf gym for free, its really quite well equiped. as for supplements hard to say everyone is different, personally i dont use them (much). I think it depends on the work load you are giving your body, if you keep pushing your body it will continue to get easier (never easy) muscle fatigue wont last as long when i did leg workouts at the begining the soreness lasted neaRLY a week but after about 3 weeks of increasing resistance and resting it was usually over with in 3 days, the fat burners like i said are good IF you eat healthy average wont cut it, trust me i tried. now the protien thing just remember the more protien you consume the more NATURAL vitamin A you need to make it a usable compound for the body (liver is a great source), also protien builds muscle but doesnt realy help with the strength thing which should be of more concern than getting big. so the supplement I would reconmend would be a TRI CREATINE MALATE. creatine reduce recovery time i'v found and the one i suggested b4 is good because it has 3 different creatines (to keep it simple)
And by lose weight ppl mean to burn fat, im 112 kg and i dont look like no blob just as an example.
BTW get hold of some high quality multy vitamin and fish oil supplement, other wise you will start getting cold alot more often because you body is coping with a new level of stress it hasnt had befor or in a while, isell some good stuff but you can also get much cheaper stuff from the supermarket, your body your choice.
Fitness and nutrition, a subject close to my heart.
From a spindly little 65kg during my hardcore DGA LAN'ing days, to the 95kg I am now.
I've been fat, I've been skinny, and through all of it food is king, I've used supplements, and I've done it without supplements and IMO food is the only supplement 99.99% of the avg human being needs. Protein powder is the only thing I use now simply to supplement my daily protein intake and use it as an extra meal by adding in lots of other goodies as well.
Hopefully i'll be moving back up to Darwin shortly (January) and catch up with some of you guys again (the ones that are still there anyway). I've been hibernating in Melbourne and I've had enough.
yeah i've done muay thai - it's good fun. i'd still be training if i didn't work nights =( make sure you find a gym that meets your needs, no point in joining a hardcore mt school if you only want to get fit and vice versa.
i guess ppl have answered your question already uber..
protein powders generally have enough calories in them to be used as a meal replacement...so they can attribute to weight loss, but if u use the wrong protein with 3 square meals a day, you could put on weight..you need to find protein powders will low carbos (sugars)
i've lost 3 kgs in the last few weeks from doing nothing, drinking ****loads of beer and eating at weird hours, but i havent been working out, so i'm assuming ive just lost muscle mass (as muscle mass weighs more than fat)...
so im just gonna eat healthy now, lose 5 more kilos, then pack on the weights.
back when i used to do heavy weights 5 times a week, i was losing fat but putting on muscle, so my weight stayed the same....so now it's lose the weight first, then work out, i'm aiming for decent body muscle mass at 85kgs (im 90 now)
Performance Gym and Man Ho Academy are the two main MT gyms in Darwin, both hold regular kickboxing events in Darwin. Man Ho Academy has both the 'cardio' kickboxing class and the fighters class. If you're looking to compete in full contact MY, the fighters class is what you want. Performance gym is a bit more dedicated towards MT and have annual training trips/camps to Thailand. As a beginner I'd probably recommend Man Ho, despite the name.
update time cause im having friday off i'll just eat right on that day, lets just call it festive friday. im now 87kg i would say thats mainly cause of what im eating and the portion and timing of my meals. I have only worked out twice when i did sprints and then i was dam sore after that, and today i just did a resistance at home. mark this as the 1week mark.
if anyone else wants to record themselves and post it on here i would like to see
forget man ho seriously they teach so many fighting styles its ridiculous, someone that "knows " so many arts is obviously a master of non, that said tho they do have some good seminars. im starting capoeria again soon if anyone interwested in coming.
Man Ho does bring in MT instructors from Thailand for seminars, and send it's own fighters to compete in full contact competition across the country. In fact they're holding a Fight Night tonight at Discovery.
Basically for MT it's got basic/decent MT classes, if you join the fighters class. Either way, it's better than Capoeira.
Space midget; I disagree. Don't learn a single style. Find someone who has learnt a heap of them, and been graded as a black belt in all. Then get him to teach you the best of all of them; the most practical, the stuff that works in a real world environment. Freestyle fighting, if you will.
My master was Vince Palumbo. This quote was from a couple years ago...
Quote: Vince Palumbo won 2 World Titles at the 2005 CACOY DOCE PARES ESKRIMA WORLD FEDERATION World Full Contact Stickfighting Championships in Los Angeles last year, he won the middleweight and the the openweight world titles after having 13 very demanding fights on the day! After giving a wonderful demonstration of skill, fitness and technique, he was also asked to make a guest appearance in the new movie which is yet to be released, 'CONFESSIONS OF A PIT FIGHTER' starring Hector Ecchavarria, and the movie was produced by Art Comacho.
Worked for me, and came second in a national tournament. Kicked the shit out of a bunch of taeqwondo, jujitsu and karate students. Ended up being beaten only by a black belt (I was green at the time).
dont get me wrong, a variety is good, but changing disaplins all the time wouldnt be so great,i'v just changed my views since last i thought about this subject, but back to topic MT will be great for burning the fat, but capoeria is way cool, more fun more difficult and you can pull some of that on the dance floor. besides just running should be enough exercise for ur legs and cap is upper body big time.
Well I just forked out $500 on a new BMX Frame, Handlebars, seat, seapost and bearings for the whole bike and transfered over all my old running gear. Time to start riding to work.
I've only *just* started to drop weight. I had been focusing on weights far too much. I currently tip the scales at 125kg. I have put on quite a bit of muscle mass and have gained a lot of strength.
When i first started i was hard pressed to do 15kg dumbbell press (free weights). I can comfortably do 20/25kg now. Same goes for a lot of the other exercises I do.
So im now going to bring the focus over to cardio whilst trying to do gym 2-3 times a week.
Breakky Im either having porridge with flax seed oil or an english muffin with scrambled eggs(1 egg and 2 egg whites).
Mornos is a piece of fruit
Lunch is usually a salad sandwhich. At the moment im quite partial to my cottage cheese, turkey breast, cranberry jelly and spinach sandwhiches on wholemeal.
Depending if it is a day I do weights which is usually around 2-4 I will have a protein shake afterwards.
Dinner is something light. - Can of tuna with some cottage cheese on cruskits, grilled chicken breast with light seasoning and veggies etc.
Personally I'm not a huge fan of cardio and I know alot of people don't enjoy it. That's why everyone that starts all these fitness regimes just throw it in, lets face it sitting on a bike/treadmill/stepper staring at the wall for 20-40 minutes is boring as hell.
Personally I don't use cardio to lose weight, cardio is simply a way for me to raise my metabolism. To lose weight you don't have to spend hours after hours running walking or stuff like that, it's quite simple
Weightloss: calories ingested - calories expended = a negative result
Kelly your diet leaves alot to be desired, heck currently mine is crap as well as I just don't have the motivation recently, going on holidays and moving back to Darwin so health has taken a back seat, but if your goal is to lose weight then your current diet sucks ass.
If you could put in a schedule of what time you eat those meals and when you workout etc etc I could do a better assesment, but as it stands.
Your breakfast is "ok", english muffin is crap, porridge, flaxseed and eggs are all good though.
Your morno's is a joke, your pretty much just throwing some sugar down your throat, sugar = insulin = no more using fat for energy
The lunch isn't bad, but bread isn't a great choice.
The protein shake after your weights session is a good thought, but you really need a solid meal.
Dinner doens't have to be light, it just has to have the right calories in it, the cottage cheese is definitely a no no.
Ya know forget the complexity just eat whole and unpocessed food u wll drop the weight, and im in dissagreement about not doing cardio, it increases blood flow helps to develope more capillaries and the like in th muscle its all good, u dont have to do cardio on a stationary machine in doors ya know

Smart words.
Diets are a waste of time. If you want to keep weight off you have to change your lifestyle, not just limit your intake for a couple of months while you drop a few kgs. You have to enjoy your exercise and enjoy your eating or it won't last. If you like the idea eating tuna on cruskits for dinner for the rest of your life and using the ab-do for 30 mins a day then good for you. Chances are 6 months later you will be back to square one.
Finding a sport you enjoy and eating a healthy balanced diet is the best way to do it.
If your not going to read what is written then please don't chime in with useless crap.
No where did I say don't do cardio, in fact I can't find anywhere in this thread that says don't do cardio.
jimmy you say diets are a waste of time, then you say eating a healthy balanced diet is the best way to do it, which is it? Every single person in the world is on a diet, what we eat every day is what our diet is. Manipulating our diet is how you get the results your after, whether it's to gain, lose or maintain weight.
Sure eating whole and unprocessed food is a good start, but it's not as simple as that, it's understanding how the food you eat effects your body, it doesn't have to be technical and in depth, personally I just enjoy understanding what I do. I know many people that have gotten quite overweight just by eating whole, unprocessed food.
I also don't see anywhere stating eating tuna on cruskits for dinner for the rest of your life is the only way to do it, or advocating 30 minutes on an ab-do (wtf is that?) every single day.
If your going to contribute fine, but how about reading what's posted and adding constructive comments instead of spouting any superfluous shit that comes flowing out your mouth?
pfft, i never said i had tuna on cruskits all the time, it was an example.
I dont like playing sport. I just do a 5-10km walk 3-4 times a week. Quite a rewarding walk too depending on the weather.
Once you reach the top of this hill, the breeze and the view is such a reward for the hard work walking up the fkn thing. I just need to get fit enough to be able to run up it like some of the psychos.

Wow. I wasn't having a stab at you. Settle.
My point was changing your diet to something boring is not going to help in the long run, its going to get tedious and won't be continued.
Cruskits and tuna & ab-do was an extreme exaggeration of the way some people approach weight loss, not supposed to be taken literally.
Also cardio is the best way to "burn fat". Again I wasn't taking a stab at you, just stating a fact.
I thought those were constructive comments? Thanks for listening.
Sorry jimmy but it's gonna take more then an internet forum to get me worked up, I'm merely expressing my opinion and once again it's that you don't have much of a clue what your talking about.
Constructive comments, first off you agreed with space_midget, who's post looks like a 2 year old chimpanzee typed it out, then after contradicting yourself, expressing exaggerations that have no bearing on the thread you state facts that I have no idea where you get them from.
If you believe that cardio is the best way to "burn fat" then kudos to you, you can go join the group of fat people I see in the gym, day after day, month after month, year after year pedaling their asses off, but are still fat.

Diet is the key, and THAT is a fact.
Sorry ZeReaper but you sound pretty worked up.
Contradicting myself?
Space Midget made good points.
Sounds like you're arguing with me on something that we both agree on... of course diet is important.
Weight loss comes from a healthy balanced diet & exercise.
Cardio is the best way to burn fat. The most efficient way to burn fat is to raise your heart rate to 70% of its maximum for a period longer than 20 mins.
Oh and this information has come from my girlfriend who has spent the last semester studying nutrition as apart of her medical degree. So I would say kudos to the medical community, not to myself.
We're getting too far off topic here, jimmy don't feel special I'll argue with anyone. If you think I'm worked up good for you, if you think I'm flaming you then you seem to have lived a sheltered life.
Minorci was the link I provided any use for your diet or would you like some more help?

Off topic? lol
Admit it. You were wrong.
"how about reading what's posted and adding constructive comments instead of spouting any superfluous shit that comes flowing out your mouth?" sounds like a flame to me.
Pretty stupid to "argue with anyone", especially when you agree on the same points. Sounds like you're just trying to pick fights.
Yes off topic, you now seem more interested in having an argument with me then posting useful information.
I'd have to say I'm the first person to immediately admit when I'm wrong, if I'm wrong, but I'm afraid you'll have to highlight where I've made a mistake, as I'm confident that I've made none.
Doing cardio will do nothing to help you lose fat if you eat incorrectly, regardless of whether you work at 70% of your MHR or 100%. I don't care if your girlfriends a leper performing tricks at a circus, it doesn't change that fact.

Your mistake was throwing insults around and getting offended that someone else has some weight loss advice. Complaining about getting off topic? Bit of hypocrisy right there. You want to stay on topic? Don't be a dick.
I think it's great for more people to offer advice and get involved in this thread, that's how we'll get more information as long as it's accurate of course. I'm still waiting for you to show me where I was wrong, and apparently now I was offended, you'll have to point that one out as well as where I insulted anyone. If your referring to me asking people not to spout shit, I don't think that was insulting, and just because I don't couch my words with flowery phrases and hug everyone, doesn't mean I'm offended, I just like to get to the point and speak my mind so there can be no confusion about my opinion.
Personally I think this threads getting quite interesting, if only it was a little more informative about the topic at hand but either way it's entertaining.
Quote from OverDrive: I quit reading at that point.....
Come now Dan, make it to point 7 and you'll see that beer is allowed occasionally, and of course it's all a guideline, how seriously you put it into effect is of course up to you and the goals you are trying to achieve but implementing it into at least some of your diet, I'm sure over time you'd see great improvements.
dood calm the fuq down, seriously 2-3 pages of argument in one day, now i didnt say YOU said not to do cardio just that you personally dont use it and that it is boring as hell, so i saw the need to point out that there is more to cardio exercise than sitting your arse in gym. and where were the insults you ask calling me a 2 year old chimpanzee would qualify as an insult, as for the simple writings, these ppl are not nutritionists or personal trainers and the like so why make it sound more complex than what it is(no offence). besides this is a light hearted forum, go take a valume.
and the kfc diet i wouldnt recomend it, you all ready know why. Plz dont make type another rebuttle thread this long again. :P
I stated that I don't use it as a means to burn fat, I use it as a means to increase my metabolism, I still do cardio, it's good for your health and your heart. I said your response looked like it had been typed by a 2 year old chimpanzee, not that you were one but you can take it as you like. Sure people on this board aren't nutritionists but that doesn't mean you can't learn what's going on with the food you eat to better your own diet, I'm not a nutritionist OR a personal trainer I just like to understand how things work. No shit this is a light hearted forum, I've been around for quite a while, I may not have contributed much in the last couple of years but I've still been here and know the majority of users.
And as for KFC.......well a mans gotta have a weakness, bacon & cheese zinger burgers omg YUM!
"I stated that I don't use it as a means to burn fat, I use it as a means to increase my metabolism, I still do cardio, it's good for your health and your heart."
Cardio is also the best way to lose fat! You're right, cardio increases your basal metabolic rate, burning more calories. Therefore, you are burning fat.
A really interesting fact is the setpoint theory.
It says that you can increase or decrease your calorie input or calorie output by up to 15% without losing or gaining weight.
I can reduce my calorie intake by up to 15% and I won't lose weight. I can also increase my calorie intake by less than 15% and I won't gain weight. I can increase my calorie output by up to 15% and see no change or decrease up to 15% and see no change.
You have to get over the 15% calorie threshold before your weight will change.
