I think the aussie dollar will reach parity, with the way the US is going.
I think the economists were predicting 92.5 by Christmas, but with the rate it's climbing, I'd be suprised if we didn't get to about 93, maybe 93.5 by then... But I'm no expert, I just keep a close eye on the US and the Yen.
I also ordered some stuff just today from the US... So hopefully some of the extra good rates have helped me there, but even so, 91.8 isn't shabby.

with US interest rates set to fall and domestic rates likely to rise, the A$ will only become stronger against the greenback. some economists are predicting it will reach parity - i think it'll fall short though.

the interesting thing here is that i was in the states a month back or so and did you know they actually value our dollar more than we do
it was 84c here to buy and 75c to sell. i got to america and it was 92c either way over there. i think some plick is investing to much cream. if it is 92c here now then it must be 98c or more there.
tip, dont get US dollars before getting there is you go, wait till you get there!

are you sure? that doesn't really make any sense. currency markets are extremely competitive and exchange rates are pretty similar the world over and move together extremely quickly.
i can garuntee you that if something like that existed the arbitrage opportunities and the ability to make currency trades electronically in the space of a few seconds would mean that such a huge disparity (and in forex terms that is HUGE) couldn't really exist.
were those exchange rates taken from a tourist currency exchange place or something like that? those places charge very large fees in the form of distorted exchange rates for their service. it simply is never the case that different exchange rates to the tune of almost $0.20 simultaneously exist in different locations in todays forex markets.

i exchanged money here at the airport at the exchange joint and the same joint at the airport in LA was much higher.
weird i know, but when we came back one of the lads had 500 US he changed back to AU and lucky he did cause when we flew in it was heaps less here.
i only know what happened not the theory.
different places have different rates. You can get better deals if you shop around, it's not necessarily location more so company. Like banks tend to rip you off :D And exchange centers at airports are like everything at an airport....expensive

before you get too excited most investors compare speculative forex trading to gambling. and thats not even taking into account the fact that the margins in forex trading are extremely small, you can't really do it retail. you could look at futures and option but they can be even more risky especially if you're leveraging. basically, if you want to invest your money there are far better ways to go aobut it. speculative forex trading usually ends in tears.

no, didn't notice. have more important things to do with my time than watch a friggen ticker waiting for a minute change. to make a buck over a change of .0004 dollars you'd need to outlay $2500.
I've never seen a foreign exchange office offer better rates then the market. ^O^
But, Hong Kong is a great example of over competing, and smart shopping combined.
There are area's there, that are practically filled with exchange offices, and the bargains that can be made are immense if you look a little deeper.
While there January last year, we went to an exchange office on a street side. There were two out the front, both run by different groups. They'd been offering the best rate we'd seen in HK, then we went inside the mall they were in the front of, and there were another 5 or 6 exchange offices all with far better pricing (got an extra 3 cents to the dollar) which isn't a huge amount but every little bit helps.

I scored a decent ammount on a dropping dollar a few back.
Payed for a flight that was to be reimbersed by a US company.
They did the conversion on the spot and filled in the paper work but I didn't see a check for about 6 mont by which time the aussie dollar had dropped by about 25% so got back an extra couple of hundred dollars above my airfare cost.
yea I dont fly till March but already have my ticket book :D I was going anyway it's just luck that the australian dollar happened to get so strong for me.. I hope the economy holds out till I get back then crashes because I should have all my thousands of hard earned US dollars.
Oh yea that's five years and a totally selfish outlook. *fingers crossed*

I may pending the going rate in Japan. Right now the RRP price is 899,990 yen... however, bringing stuff back from Japan when you're not in the country isn't as easy as getting stuff sent from Japan... The street price is expected (and as I saw while I was there two months ago) 799,990 yen, so compared to the US street price of 8000, then yeah, it'll always be cheaper... But it's always a little harder getting that stuff sent over too.
EDIT: It would ordinarily be easy, but as I'm not going this Christmas (to Japan), I can't cash in on it. ~_~

The best place, and I kid you not, is Fujiya Camera.
To get there you take the Yamanote line to Shinjuku (if you're not already there) or I think Shibuya or Akiba can also get you there). Jump onto the Chuo Rapid service, heading for NAKANO (not Nagano). Get off at Nakano, and head out I believe the South exit. It's the exit where you have to turn left to get outside, and then right at the admission gates. There's a mall to the right, go down it.
After you get into the mall area (under the shade, you'll have to pass a taxi rank and a funny traffic island that's massive) you'll need to take the first 'ally' street. It's inbetween a fish shop and a man who cooks fresh octopus balls. Keep heading down, and you'll see the shop on the left. A big yellow sign, lots of camera stuff in the window (flyers etc). Go inside, and they'll have everything you'll want.
They ARE the cheapest place to get memory cards, in some cases by half price for the high end stuff. Their camera's are consistently cheaper then Yodobashi and BIC even taking in Duty free to account. They do not offer duty free or point card though. Even so, still a hell of a lot cheaper. ^_^

Incidentally, since you like Anime stuff, if you keep heading into the arcade/mall thing you'll eventually come to a section that has a second and third floor. Lots of Anime stuff there, usually very hard to collect or find collector items... Sometimes you can get a great bargain... most of the time you'll have your left testicle removed in order to get something. Only buy there if you absolutely have to, or you can't find it anywhere else. Akiba is still the cheapeast for regular stuff.
