Bigpond customers = gullible?

I have had an influx of "forward this or you die at 12:54pm tonight" and "little amy is dying of cancer, forward this email to give her 7 cents" emails in my inbox lately, and just now I was mousing over the hundreds of email addresses at the beginning of one such email and found that many of them were bigpond customers. Another thing I noticed is that there were no internode customers, one optusnet customer and half a dozen business domains. And with Telstra's latest "omgz the whole family can use internetz at the same time!" advertisement, there's likely to be more idiots forwarding useless emails. I mean, everyone knows you can only have more than one device using the internet at the same time if you are with Telstra Bigpond, right?

well bigpond have a fantastic marketing campaign. if any other company pumped the resources into their own campaign they would most certinally benefit.

Post 3

Yeah but do you think the service would suffer as a result? Certainly seems like is has with Telstra.

Post 4

re topic.. they're with Bigpond in the first place =)

Post 5

well when your a huge corporation its going to be a bit harder to keep everyone happy. The service cant be that bad if there doing so well. Sure we hear alot of people bag out bigpond but there is probably far more that are quite happy with their service. Only the bad things get throw about, happy people stay quiet.

Post 6

the why do all the happy people on internode continuously say how good they are

Post 7

Answer - Because we appreciate good service after suffering with other ISP's previously.

Post 8

Because Bigpond does alot more marketing then other ISP's. I wouldn't put it past some end user to not know other ISP's exist, or what an ISP is for that matter.

Post 9

Wait...I wasnt aware you could have even one device on the internet with bigpond let alone more than one.

Telstra are out to make money. Sol Trujillo gets a massive personal bonus for keeping shareholder profit up. Stuff them. I will not pay.

Long live Node.

Telstra has good customer service I've found... Everybody gives their customer service such a bad wrap but its not half bad. The only problem is that they refuse to stay competitive with the market. Whilst other ISP's are happily offering more download and faster speeds for a lot less, Telstra continue to push the same products at higher prices when compared with the rest of the market especially when they have a lot less overheads...

Instead of changing their actual broadband prices they try to make you bundle more services with Telstra so you get a good home line (about their only good service), a pretty horrible Mobile Plan (with a lot of very horrible Next G Phones) and half price broadband for half the 24 month period you are contracted to telstra...

Its no wonder they have so much money to pour into marketing for the masses...

i think you'll find that basically every ceo of a publicly listed company gets a performance bonus based on profits and shareholder return...

I don't know, but I didn't. I just criticised Telstra.

And yeah their service might be alright, but their prices definitely aren't - and as Xyrisk said, I would bet you that a lot of their users are so naive that they just pay up and don't ask questions.

ROFL!!! :D

If anyone says they are looking at getting ADSL - and tel$tra are having some awesome deals - like half price internets for 9 months and they are thinking of signing up or have called up about it - once i show them plans of other ISP's and what the cost is between both they generally dont want to join up with tel$tra.

Last time i looked at tel$tras plans everything is an extra, email addresses, downloads half of what i get with node, cost for extra mb over the meager combined download / upload, 24 month contract and a shit modem to boot. Tel$tra just give joe average what they want him to have because he doesnt know any better - "but i can pay everything in the same bill!! " Bah-humbug stupid peon.

About 2 yrs ago i had 2 people come and say they wanted ADSL - i told both of them NOT to get the big T route, 1 of them didnt listen and within 3 months she was very unhappy but had to ride out her 12 of 15 month contract and then promptly changed. And the last time i had any contact with thier help desk i told them they were over priced, uncompetative, and would never get my money or business - they didnt like that :p

Us geeks should band together and educate the uneducated on what's a good deal when it comes to internetz. Or maybe we should just let them waste their money as punishment for their ignorance.
