just continuing the long tradition of labor leaders deciding one day they cbf'd. won't stop them making a huge big deal out of opposition leaders who refuse to give definite time frames for their intentions. clearly its much better to say nothing and simply down tools one day and not go back.
either that or ruddy found out she wasn't a union member.
She's an Ex reporter, turn Labor poli... There's no doubt she's a Unionist... Especially with the new Union reps taking up Work Safety rep jobs.
On a side note... Today is my birthday. I couldn't have asked for a better pressie.
I wouldn't be surprised if she got parachuted into a safe labor electorate down south. She might also bump off Damian Hale or Warren Snowden.
Time will tell... The sooner she's gone, the better.
i hope we still have bass in the grass
im not a fan of politics but i know she brought this concert to us and hope it continues
Ahhh knight, always to the key point of the issue do you delve.
Awesome!
Pitty that the damage has already been done though.
Stupid scrag.

And really, what else did she do for us? =p
Syd Stirling and Paul Tyrrell have also left... And Paul Henderson who used to be in charge of Education is now going to be the new Chief Minister..? It's like everyone's having an emo session. 'If she can leave, I can too!'
Down with conformity maaaan!
I don't mind Henderson... Lawrie however... She's jumped into the Business management side now. That's just ****ed... Why can't she quit?
ffs i vote we have her taken out
2nd anyone ? lol
but thank lord shes not CM anymore, maybe Henderson might fix the road law "Doubtful"
Very unlikely Kornster... Right now, it's a do not touch law especially by the same party... I think it's very suspicious her timing.

Yeah, it was pretty selfish of Geoff Gallop to resign as WA Premier just because he was battling severe depression, or for Steve Bracks to resign as Victorian Premier after his son was involved in a DUI and he realised that maybe because of his job he was neglecting his responsibilities as a father and husband.
Nice one.
At least Clare and Syd are doing the right thing by the constituencies that elected them and serving out their terms as local members on the back bench.
Mind you, I do find the mindset of some people on this forum bizarre:
"I hate Clare Martin for being the Chief Minister!"
"She's quitting."
"Well now I hate Clare Martin for not being the Chief Minister!"

She repealed mandatory sentencing laws, introduced freedom of information legislation, oversaw the completion of the Alice to Darwin railroad, introduced the lowest small business taxes in Australia, presided over record population growth, saw the highest building approval rates, saw record levels of home ownership, saw property crime almost halved and oversaw and approved the " billion development of Darwin wharf precinct.
Whether or not you consider those things positives or a negatives will be up to the individual but to suggest she hasn't accomplished anything at all would be mistaken.

you missed peter beattie from that list. whatever way you spin their retirements it simply smacks of hypocricy. you campaign, for years federally about the uncertainty of john howards resolve, yet internally you have people who just up and quit without notice. nice double standard.

She repealed mandatory sentencing laws, -A lot of people, myself included feel this was a bad thing, as it was played out to be a racially unjust law. It was pretty clear there was a problem with the large number of aboriginal people being prosecuted under this law, but the problem was the law, it was the people getting done by it. More should be done to prevent this law from having to be used. Only then can you remove the law to any effect- introduced freedom of information legislation, -one point- oversaw the completion of the Alice to Darwin railroad, -The result is nothing to be overly happy about though, its completion was mismanaged, and poorly executed. Shit, the train has to shunt accross the road in order to actually get loaded properly, which ties up hundreds of people up regularly for up to half an hour in some cases, Tennant Creek is a toilet, but desperately needs more, especially if it's to play a 'major' stop- introduced the lowest small business taxes in Australia, -minimised staff in the front end government jobs increasing wait times for things such as 457 Visa's- presided over record population growth -This is NOT due to her government, but due to local business and market, something the government ultimately has only marginal control over-, saw the highest building approval rates, -At the cost of no town planning act, and zero quality control. Look at the shit that's being put up all over Darwin. Soon enough we're going to look like a 3rd world city with run down appartments. Darwin city is more about Appartments then it is about business these days- saw record levels of home ownership, -Again, market, nothing to do with her- saw property crime almost halved -What the hell have you been smoking? It's public knowledge that domestic crime has been on the increase!!!- and oversaw and approved the " billion development of Darwin wharf precinct. -Which is expected to blow out to $2.6 billion, which is "billion more then Alcan G3 cost, because once again, poor management and very bad environmental planning was carried out.-

You're right though, she's accomplished some stuff... But for the vast majority of business people, she's been a waste of space, and air.
To me it doesn't even get to CLP vs ALP... She's just been a bad manager, who's clearly very good at putting herself in the public light.
yeh she must know the NT hates her.
****ing slag
she stole my carpark when I worked for QANTM... hated her ever since =)

And Bob Carr (because neither supported my case). See how I did that?
Anyway I'll step off at this point. Korny's comment has pretty much killed any notion there can be a proper discussion about this.
korny can't have a proper discussion about anything.
This article appears in todays Adelaide Advertiser...
Quote:
NORTHERN Territory Chief Minister Clare Martin was made an offer she couldn't refuse - go quietly or be dumped.
Her successor, former Employment and Education minister Paul Henderson told her that the majority of the 19-strong caucus wanted her out. Sources said Ms Martin was only too happy to go.

There's a setting you can select that ignores certain user's posts - I find it comes in quite handy.
Korny who? ;)
Record levels on home ownership was mostly to do with the first home buyers grant which had a lot more to do with the Fedral goverment. If sydney is anything to go expect a market crash in 2 years time (we were about 2year behind on the market rise).
Wow I wonder if australia will be the same when I return from holiday -_-
We will all have cake and it wont be a lie. Thats how much it will change.
