A couple of weeks ago rang Telstra to cancel my internet plan which was about to run up, push came to shove and long story short, they gave me 20megabit connection for same price. Since the next day, I lose my connection several times a day >.> - tried two different modems, many different cables and splitters but still constantly losing connection. Reconnection consists of punching the modem for about 5 minutes, and then getting into network connections and disabling - then ableing the connection, then a few more punches and 20 minutes of smashing the reconnect key on the modem to achieve several more hours of looking for a solution. Anybody have a clue what the problem might be?

if your running azerus, it has a tendency to kill your internet once it has been closed... i recommend uninstalling the program or never closing it ;D

also check your firewall(on the modem) for any ports that maybe blocked
in cmd try ipconfig /release then ipconfig/renew if the windows repair utility fails.

Dude,

You were on the right track to fixing most of your interweb problems there. But you stayed with bigpond.

Go to Adam and do a fast churn, it costs about $35. You shouldn't even need to think about it, just remember there was a reason you were leaving them in the first place.

They are just like heroin dealers. Keep giving you a little taste, and another offer to stay a user. We know how most of those people turn out....

we're getting so many calls from people wanting to disconnect from telstra now.. which is funny, because we arent in any way related. someone somewhere in telstra keeps giving out our 1800 number as the line to contact. Been hearing some great stories, and awesome free advertising for us since we're so helpful in suggesting alternatives ;)

so you work for node?

can i has free interweb for bread :P

Post 6

lol no, i work for a web dev company... as i said, totally unrelated to telstra - not even their competition :)

Post 7

Basically it goes like this;
:oInternet just stops working - websites get diverted to the modems page.
:(Modem feeds me bullshit 'Your DSL connection is down. Verify that your SpeedTouch is correctly connected to your phone line. If the problem persists, check your documentation.'
:-(I diagnose the shit and it 'resets the network adapter'.
:)Internet comes back.
:mad:2 minutes later its gone again.
When it happens I have maybe mozilla and msn running - and it will happen. Or it's even happened in the middle of playing crysis sort of thing, just a major pain. If it keeps up I'll swap to Adam by next month.

(Even as writing this I got disconnected so time to start over again >.>)

could be the shit modem too

Post 9

I'm just going to assume because it works your modem supports adsl2+?

Post 10

the encapsulation is all setup right yeah? like does telstra have a different one for adsl vs adsl2+?

oh and the other question, is an adsl2+ connection more susceptible to flooded cable pits than standard adsl? (given the amount of rain around the last few weeks and all)

Post 11

Yeah I've got a Speed Stream 536 and I'm just about pulling my friggen hair out >.> - Such a painful piece of crap. Last straw is basically me trying to email Tesltra customer support and the web page crashing every time I attempt to send the complaint form off o.O - Adam I'm coming in like 12 days and I'm going to leach as much crap out of Telstra until the end.

Post 12

Have you done a trace on where your packets are going? You could have a sync issue with the modem/router. Or somewhere along the line, some interference is being generated and the router is picking it all up causing it to drop.

I had to relocate a mate's microwave oven cause it was old and it was near the wall where the lines were passing.

Post 13

Nah I havn't done a trace but over the last 2 days I've only had one drop sooooooooooooo I'm hoping that Telstra have sent out some techies to try and fix the issue. Fingers crossed lol.

Post 14

hasnt rained that much the last 2 days... :)

Post 15

Jinxed it - Since that last post 2 drops >.<

I just visited a friend who was experiencing exactly the same problem. They rang Telstra about the problem, who said it was a software problem, most likely Antivirus Software. They then called Norton who said there was no problem on their end. My boyfriend messed around with plenty of settings. We could ping the modem but not access it through a browser to reconfigure its settings, and in the network settings the diagram indicated that we couldn't even establish a LAN connection, let alone internet. My friend has said that she got a new modem following a lightning strike which destroyed her previous one, and has had these problems ever since. She said she's found a temporary solution which is to reboot the computer and unplug the modem then plug it back in. Her internet connection then lasts for around an hour maximum, but is unpredictable. We seemed to have found a solution today but we're not sure if it's going to disconnect like it usually does or not. It was working when we left, told her to SMS me if it disconnects again and haven't heard anything - yet.

Sounds like Telstra is at fault here. Not sure what model the modem is as I didn't think to take note, sorry. My friend is in Moil btw. Not sure if she has ADSL2 or not.

this is a fairly gigantic clue that it's hardware related, not telstra related.

Brookie, water has seeped into the coper and is causing your modem to lose sync with your ISP. Despite your friends' new modem, if the line is fubar, you won't be able to tell. It's a needle in a haystack for Telstra to find where it is.

Is there anyone in your neighborhood subscribing to the same ISP? Try your connection there. If it works fine, then it's not the line; it's your hardware.

The modem is Telstra's hardware...
I'll also mention that she made a point of making rather negative comments about Telstra's helpdesk - how they were very unhelpful and took a long time to do anything. Never heard anyone (computer literate or computer illiterate) say that about Internode.

I don't know many people in her neighbourhood, let alone any with Telstra. I live in town, she's in Moil. Anyone on GU in Moil with Telstra? Stupid question I guess, like 80% of GU is with node.

I'm going to try a spare modem at her place when I get an opportunity.

It'd only be whatever was on the teleprompter anyway....

Post 22

haha Telstra employees can't read :P

Post 23

Yeah sounds like similar problem - Last night I had it working for about 14 hours then gone again >.>

I'm pretty sure its a Telstra thing because like I said, it's been happening since the day after I upgraded my net - Got a techie friend coming over tomorrow to do a proper inspection though so I'll get back asap.
