I dont know about the rest of you, but i really really miss gaming on a Friday night on the GU server with GU'ers and non GU'ers alike. From what info i have on the situation we will need someone, based in Sydney preferably, who has experience with rack mounted server and hardware and basic knoweledge of Linux, enuff to report accurately what problems would prevent remote access. Prefernce for GU members is there, but we really need someone who is dedicated to the gaming movement of Australia.
If you think you fit the bill, or know someone who is keen to fit the bill, get in contact with me, Daniel, at eaterofsouls101@hotmail.com with contact details and relevant experience listed
Thanks
Eater

What we're doing would be seen as competition for their own games network - never in our wildest dreams would they offer us hosting at discounted rates, if at all.
The guy that has the 2nd CPU (my mate in canberra who has setup all the other servers in the rack we are using - ie: perfect guy) has been flatout with work and unable to go - BUT has just found out he will be in Sydney in about 2 weeks and will both fix the box AND upgrade it at the same time.
So about 2 weeks from now we'll be back and bigger than ever.
Week or so yeah - don't want to constantly hassle the guy that will be taking time off his work to do it for free... suffice to say yes it will happen and yes soon.
m3ow!? just checking to see if its online? I wouldnt mind having a big fat TF2 bash next friday with some GUers! That been the 2/5/08! Bring your beer and get your TS mic's ready!
The server has been removed from its home in Sydney as it could not be rebooted when tried this week.
Its on its way to OD in Adelaide (if not here already) to fix. Then we have to wait for a few more weeks to send it back to Sydney and get someone to install and boot it back up.
Quote from ResLo;345828: Not a hope, costs too much. Just found out that the server is still waiting to be couriered. Wont be in Adelaide until next week.
GU does about 50gig traffic a month. And that's JUST the website - throw gameservers into the mix and it's nowhere close to being a doable proposition. I'll be redoing the box from scratch while it's here and have a few other ideas on how to make sure we don't have extended downtimes again - more on that soon.
you'd have to move to America for it. australia doesn't do T-x lines. but the equivalent is basically cost prohibitive. the gu hosting is a good deal, and there is more redundancy and remote rescue options planned for the server to hopefully avoid this in the future
It's at my place getting rebuilt as we speak - paladin has sent over some more parts for it to and should get them any day. Redoing the who thing from scratch (take the opportunity to format eh).
well clearly his game is no longer, as they say, "in the box". Now either he has removed the wrapping, or just opened the box and removed the cd's. Either way, we're in for a great time here.
Here live with the story as it happens, is Asian reporter Trisha Takinawa.
It's alive - I've just had to move house as the owner wanted to come home :( Moved into a new place a few days ago so will have the server sorted asap.
