The lovely weather just follows me around doesn't it ;) And before you Darwinites start going on, it NEVER gets this hot in the dry for you and in the wet you at least have rain (albeit with that god-awful humidity) - we have had 10ml here for the entire 2008! (You'd get the same in 2mins of Darwin rain).

Adelaide goes for national heatwave record - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)
Quote:
Australia's heatwave record will be broken today if the temperature in Adelaide gets above 35 degrees Celsius.
Yesterday was Adelaide's 10th day in the high 30s - equalling the record for a capital city, set in Perth in 1988.
The weather bureau's Allan Beattie says the 10-day record will not be hard to beat today.
"We only have to get over 35 [degrees] and we're forecasting a maximum of 40 so I think the chances are quite high that we will break that record and have the longest heatwave on record in Australia or at least of the capital cities of Australia," he said.
And to top it off, we have dessert winds today... worst fire danger day in years.

Nerds going on about it:

Evap cooling ftw... although all my plants are dead...
sure on average Adelaide might be cooler, but darwins record max high temp is a lowly 38.9. This is like having darwins record max temp for a fortnight. So I donno, seems you darwiners havent felt some real hot heat. ;)
AdelaideNow... SA goes on red alert as police target firebugs in record heatwave

ADELAIDE set a new capital city heatwave record this morning, as nervous firefighters and police prepared for the worst fire danger day in years..
At 10.45am, the temperature was 35.3C, making today the 11th day in a row the maximum has exceeded 35C. The previous capital city record of 10 days belonged to Perth.
If the official forecast holds true, maximums of 35C or above will continue until Tuesday and this will mean 16 days straight of heatwave temperatures. ...
Aaaaahahaha - kicking your arse Perth :)
Will go something like this: Previous record - Perth - 10 days New record - Adelaide - 16 days
Quote from ResLo;341233: Yup the nice big lawn I have in the new house is dying and dying fast. Do what I'm going to do Beanie and get a Water gator $459 from Stratco.
Yeah, nice thought I guess but for 460 you could "steal" so many kilolitres of metered water by breaking the stupid water restrictions. They still price an excess kilolitre of water at like ".16 or something.
You can buy 135 litre capacity for $460 and fill it 8 times over for ".16.
I don't see how one can spend thousands on a 5000 L tank and fill it with 6 bucks worth of water. Ridiculous. Until they work out water price in accordance with its real cost they're kidding themselves. IMO.
