umm, it will take probably more than a week to research foreign cultures, build an embassy and upgrade it to level 3, which is what is required to forge an alliance. so you'll have to build up a bit first :)

I thought hey I'd test the combat system early in the game, sent 2 slingers over to some guy on my island, go a few resources and thought cool. Then he sends ships from his other colony to block my harbour, and has been doing it for 2 days so far continually attacking me and taking resources. I'm slowly building my army to defend his attacks but I only have access to my islands wood and crystal so I'm not really getting too far, can't wait to build my fleet and smash this ****tard to kingdom come.

Someone gimme a quick rundown on their experience with raiding on other people.

well - instead of the embassy thing, i decided to go straight for a palace with a new expansion on the way (marble).
How I get all my resources at the moment is just attacking people between lvl 4 and lvl 10 (town hall). If i see them trading ALOT in the trading post, ill find them and kill them :-)

yeah colonies don't have a construction timer and you can't select them til they're built. I did mine over night so not sure how long it takes but i'd guess 8 or so hours.

Just thought I'd post this up because it's the longest fight I've had so far most of my battles have been decided in a couple of rounds but this has gone for 3 rounds so far and should last another 1 or 2.

At this point of the battle it appears my attacker got a bit upset that his troops didn't break through so I looked at my military reports and he's sent another 10 units from his camp to join the troops attacking me. While he's attacking me I'm really low on resources because I've still been unable to set up another colony though I'm bloody close and this ****tard is going to wish he'd never heard of me. Will update when the combat report is through. I have absolutely no sulphur so making troops is quite painful just making slingers to replace my phalanxes until I get a chance to buy some more to reinforce my troops. After this attack i'll have a short break to build up my resources to either colonise another island or build up my defenses in time for the next attack.

I was going to found my 2nd colony this morning as I would have had enough resources, however upon awaking I find that my port is blocked and another 12 units from their alliance are coming to pay me a little visit. Luckily I caught it before my port was blocked so I was able to spend the majority of my resources and I send my goods to an island at least 12 hours away so I can call it back to return at the end of the siege so I don't lose any goods.
