Ebay has decided to go Paypal only in Australia from next month. So no more direct bank transfers, sending cash pretty much anything other than Paypal.
It's only a trial at this stage and Australia is being used as a test bed. Already it has attracted condemnation from buyers and sellers and rightly so.
meh, its just a company tracking all transfers and has a nice secondary feature of generating more profits for itself. Remember, everyone wants cash, just look at google.
may be someone will start up something similar to eBay and give them some competition for a change as eBay keeps alienating more and more people so instead of trying to rake in as much money as they can they will actually think about us sellers and buyers first
i just noticed they started counting all the neutral feedback like negative too which means every large sellers percent rating has been dropped
i bet it was more paypal's decision than it was ebay's. ebay would have to have forseen this, but decided paypals money was better than the consumers happiness :P
google checkout is just for buyers though i also read somewhere that ebay/paypal will now cover you not only if you deal with someone in UK, USA, and Canada but a bunch of other countries too so horray for that at least
The main problem with eBay at the moment is that amount of scamming that occurs on the site, and they haven't been able to completely contain it. They know that they need to stop it or the site become unpopular. They've tired that with the Feedback system, but that only leaves really dedicated scammer to game the system.
This looks like another attempt to reduce the amount of scamming, by restricting and controlling all money transactions to help make everyone feel safer when using the site. However all it really does is create a monopoly and forces upon fees that just becomes too costly for people to come out with a decent profit, or bargain.
Next they'll be offering an escrow service, where all goods and transactions go to them for verification once people figure out how to game Paypal.
Interesting - although they are dropping plans to make it paypal only, they've still decided to keep the already implemented forced requirement for all sellers to offer paypal.
As a buyer I perfer to use paypal, but from a sellers perspective, why should they force you to offer a payment method that costs you more?
