Hey all.
The current 'free PS3' offer has got me interested in finally joining the world of HD tv.
Can anyone tell me the difference between the X and W models?
I've compared specs, and it seems like the W has better contrast ratio, and one more HDMI input, but is otherwise the same?
Is 'X' being superseded by 'W'?
(P.S. anyone wanna buy a perfectly good 80cm Vega? :p)
sony have always made ways to make shit they have already done seem better and charge alot more for it.
so it's probably not much different.
I forgot to add, according to the website, the RRP's are $4099 for 'X', and $3499 for 'W' 46 inch.
Myer currently have the X out for $3399.
The X has 100hz motion flow, the W doesn't

DJ's are offering free 5 year extended warranty.
So if they match $3399 for 46in 'X', give 5 year warranty and free PS3, is that sounding like a decent deal?
100Hz definately worth the extra cash if you're a sports fan or console gamer, imo. So yes, X > W.
Those retail prices are in fact correct (RRP from Sony).
The X 46" is $3399 at Myer due to the stock-take sale.
The X 46" with "free" 5 year warranty at David Jones isn't free... you're paying for it, in the higher price ($3694 last I checked).
Choose one of the offers, and ask them to match it, because you wont get both, anywhere.
But keep in mind that the 5 year warranty is not through Sony, it's through specific retailers (DJ in this case). An online retailer almost certainly doesn't even offer extended warranty, and couldn't offer you that deal anyway.
They might not even be able to match the Myer stock-take sale price. Bigger company means bigger buying power. Myer gets a cheaper price buying 500 at a time than an online retailer who purchases one each time an order is placed.
The free PS3 is a redemption program; you need to apply for it via Sony directly once the purchase has been made, and they ship it out.

I don't remember the amount they went through last time they had this promotion, but it was a lot more. Day 2 and almost 1500 gone already :)
for the common person watching television, i say stick with a w series
personally, i own an x series and love it but dont think the price is justified unless you're really fussy.
my friend asked me her opinion and we went to harvey norman to check a W and an X series in action. they have both side by side. i turned on motion flow to High and cinema drive set to Auto 1. She immediately said the X seemed unnatural but saw the benefits of it. However, she concluded that the price difference between the two was absollutely not worth it
so yes, only connoisseurs need apply for the X series

You were right. (of course, retail guru! :p)
DJ's wouldnt match as well as give bonus warranty, but they did match The Good Guys price of $3,288......
And they had one in stock, as opposed to the guy in JB's who told me there were none in Australia, and that according to the Sony rep there was no more stock coming for 3 weeks.
Whoever tells you there are none are liars. Myer's Melbourne warehouse has 150+ in each size, as a good example. ;)

And then people should just buy a Samsung 46" Series 6 for approximately $2900 then buy a PS3 separate and get 2 sensational products!
i am very happy with my XBR, the entire x series is awesome
thinking of buying a 32 in samsung serise 6 for home(don't need a large TV as already have a 60+" monster for general viewing.
Murray Oakley have a nice poster printed by the marketing gurus at sony explaining the size/model specifications so I would suggest you drop in there. But yeah X series is 100hz motionflow. The X(BR) series is also built in Japan and not malaysia unlike the other models.
Don't Worry about the Difference... K_Space is now the proud owner of a new X_Series.
I'll get to see this and his PS3 in about 3+weeks, still get there sooner then Poondas Blu Ray night (in joke)
