With the death of DRM just about upon us piracy in the music industry will just about disappear, because legally one person can purchase a song/album and as its DRM free they can freely distribute it. Maybe there will be a limit on how many times a purchase can be distributed but who is to say what is a legal means in which to do that?
As for the original post the image is correct, its piracy not theft. People need to be able to distinguish between the crime of piracy and theft.

So is geting say a Bee Gee's album from the net via torrent now considered theift. When I say baught the album on record, on the cassete, and now on the CD, just to listen too on my computer 30 years after it was first released?

Intellectual property laws are a load of crap ^_^ However I also believe that downloading something just because you can is also a load of crap, If I see a game I like I will download it first to get a feel for it, then I will buy it at a price that I feel it is worth to me. If I don't like it I will delete it. If it doesn't even interest me in the first place I would not bother downloading it... After all something is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. I also believe that people who buy a computer just so they can "get free movies" but have no idea how to even go about it need a serious reality check. Downloading Copyright Material IS ILLEGAL no matter how stupid the laws are and claiming ignorance will not help. It's not like they haven't advertised it enough... And that is my 2 cents :P lol Man I love to rant ^_^

I'm kind of the same with CDs. Over the years I'd safely say I've bought probably over a 1000 of the little bastards, and sold hundreds of those because either they were only good for a couple of listens before I realised I'd been duped aurally, or were not good at all (quite often I'd just go out and buy a stack of CDs, too many to listen to instore - my own fault I guess!). Now I just download the album... and if it's crap I delete, if it's good I keep it and go buy the CD (and the rip it if the dl isn't good quality).
Nothing makes my blood boil more than when I ask someone what CDs they have and I'm presented with a folder full of CDRs...
I will also download music that I have on vinyl. There's no way I'm paying for it AGAIN, illegal or not. That, is bullshit. I don't think the artists who make the music would disagree either...

The problem is you get punished for buying movies and CDs(looking at you sony), pirated movies music software ect.. should no be easier to use than the one you bought when are the big studios going to relise the only people DRM is affecting are those who are actualy paying for their products.

Buy a DVD and sit through 5 minutes of an anti-piracy ad that you cannot skip.
Buy or Download a pirate copy and start watching the movie instantly.
There's also the not paying part.
Worlds going to hell in a handbasket anyway, so **** it.

Standalone players are still forced into playing that crap.
Recently I've bought a few Disney DVD titles for my 2 year old and Disney are starting to release DVD's with a 'straight to film' feature. Unless you press the menu button all you have to do is insert the DVD and the film plays, no ads, no bullsh1t. I wish more companies would do this.
I buy the DVD for the film not the crap before it. If I want to see what new releases are coming I can click to view them at my leisure. Nice work Disney.

if media was realistically priced, piracy would not be an issue, or at least a very small one, i refuse to feel bad whe i look at how these people are living, and its not just the artists that are filthy rich its everyone all the way down the chain

I'd buy music and movies on Blu-ray and CD virtually all the time if they were "5 each. That'll never happen though... so I'll keep acquiring my media via digital distribution. Legal, where possible.

Im with Rec, $30 for a DVD is horseshit. I have no problem paying "5 for a movie or CD but $30 is a ****ing joke.
Also, the sooner they stop ignoring the internet as a media distribution method the better.

I try by my games through steam now as I have lost so many of my "00 CD's /DVD's and or serial numbers. Steam is good for storing that info and keeping it all in one downloadable location.

When it comes to music in particular, conventional CD's are far too clumsy for me to even think about buying.
If the distributors put the same album, in a downloadable mp3 format, for $2 a song, fk oath i'd pay it.
In fact, I'm already a member of mp3sparks.com and have spent over "00 there on music to date, that I _could_ have just downloaded for free.

There are times that i have 'found cd's on certain sites to download and listen to that are a total waste of my time and download limit, and am glad i didnt fork over any of my hard earned $ for and they generally get removed from my system permanently.
And other times after watching or listening to certain media i will purchase a legit copy, much to my wifes disaproval as i 'already have a copy' of said media......
