Awesome piece of work!
Street artists typically embrace the nature of their work, and that encompases it being painted over or removed - it's part of the culture. The better it is, the longer it stays. The fact he has incorporated this into an actual piece is pretty f*cking cool. :)
It really captures the street-art-spirit of removing the old (signified by a tribal-like mural) and making way for the new... whatever that may be. Ever changing, ever inspiring.

Some alternate meanings have just dawned on me... I guess each to their own interpretation... for some people it might definitely signify something along the lines of modern man's disregard for history, or the treatment by whites of indigenous cultures.
Whatever you might find in it - it's f*cking awesome. :)

You could also see it as...
The people of the past painted their surroundings giving people of the present an indication of the culture of the time... and would we dream of high-pressure cleaning that off the cave walls? So why do we do it now?

why do we do it now? because in a few thousand years time nobody's going to care if "Da Caz boyz suks!" or "rosy giv hed good" or.. and i nearly forgot this, some twat got out there with a ****ing template and spray painted that on every phone booth and wall like some mongrel dog with delusions of grandeur - wtf is with template graffiti anyway?!

I'm not necessarily agreeing or disagreeing with you... but who knows what people in thousands of years might or might not find interesting about the culture of today...

is this the charlie chaplin / andre the giant stensil graffiti?
I find it better than alot of the other graffiti. its inoffensive and quirky

that's the ones - I actually hate it more than the dodgy tags that the tossers do while having an epileptic fit. Honestly, if you do feel the need to paint something in public, make it GOOD re: Banksy.
otherwise what's the point? people ignore the generic rubbish that's everywhere, but just go through Banksy's website and in most of the photos of his work, people are stopping to look at it.
