what wrong with DRM im playing Warhead(retaiI) without a disc so im happy with it. it just gives me the shits when ppI whinge about it.sure there are some issues with DRM but give it time and it wiII sort it seIf out

BTW it took about 20 secs to vaIadate my copy of Warhead unIike HaIf Iife 2 which took over three hours

Post 10

Pirate software should not be easier to use than the stuff you paided for.
I shouldn't have to remove other software that EA deems offensive from my computer in order to play a game.
I should be free to play a game on my desktop laptop or loungeroom PC without having to buy 3 copies.
I have no problem with online regristion but the malware, companies like sony and EA have been putting onto their disc should offend you as a customer who has paid for their software.
The only people DRM affects are those who paid for the software a quick look at any torent site will tell you it sure as hell arn't affecting the pirites.

Post 11

weII in my opion DRM is here to stay.BUT i must admit that the Spore rootkit issue truIy sucks

and i think that they need to came up with a standard worldwide which makes it fair for both Comsumers and publishing houses

this was my issue with the DRM - ignoring the whole done to death issue of the ****ing tarded max reinstalls (YES! i KNOW you can phone them and get more - IF they deem it appropriate) - from the http://www.gamers-underground.com/forum/action-shooters/29864-crysis-warhead.html thread:

Another irritation is that I bought this game on Steam - somehow this is not enough protection for EA who felt the need to STILL embed their DRM bullshit into it - mother****ers - so you can't play in offline mode at all.

connecting to the net is a pain in the arse for me - i have to cart a cable around the house to our modem - i should NOT have to be online to play a mother****ing singleplayer game. operative word there is NOT. ****ing EA. hence no Spore, and no far cry2 for me.

PS: Morge is right, pirated games should not be easier to use than legal ones. they want people to buy the games? take the money they waste on DRM and KNOCK THAT OFF THE PRICE OF THE GAMES.

well said.

In other news, apparently you need a wi-fi within your house.
I know your point is that re: SP gaming you shouldn't need interwebs...but do you need to shift junk around the house every time you need to connect?

Post 15

yeah i do have a wireless router - but my motherboard's gone arse up - none of the PCI slots work anymore - hence reduced to cable. But that shouldnt be an issue because it's a single player game! =)

I support purchasing games... Here in Australia we pay more for games in general, but if it means I have smooth sailing playing it I have no problem buying it.

I've now decided I'll no longer buy EA as well... on the basis of more then just DRM, but admit, that it's a HUGE point as to why I won't play it.

1. DRM... no need to comment any further.
2. BAD support... Doesn't even qualify under poor support. EA simply put, have NO respect for people buying their product. If they DID, they would have said "okay, we'll actually bother to optimise the Crytek engine for Crysis, and get a patch out". Instead, they said "Thank you for buying the game that was only released a few months ago and to say thank you, we're going to make you buy the next one, due to be released shortly, with stronger DRM, at full price, but really is no more then an bloating of the story arc. Oh, and we're not going to bother fixing the broken bits of the original game, that we promissed to... but that's okay, buy this new one and you'll see how well it can run."

I'd love to pretend that Crysis was the only game from EA that had huge issues, but it wasn't. Almost all NFS franchise of late, have had massive issues running on even the most powerful machines. I'm not talking about graphical glitches, I'm talking about turning a corner too fast, and it crashes, crashing on intro screen REGULARLY.

3. Almost impossible to patch. If in the rare event a patch does come out, you have to choose which version you have (ie, country, language, and religion (okay, not quite religion then)), and then you have to actually go and look for it.

4. Treat their employees like shit. It's well recorded how poorly their employees are treated... A simple google will turn up plenty of results.

Anyway, they're my reasons.

Post 17

oooooooo NFS.. that's right! that's when my EA hate started - Nead For Speed Hot Pursuit 2! NFS:HP 1 was an incredible game.. one of the best multiplayer racing games of the time PURELY for pursuit mode... then when HP2 came out, they couldn't be bothered adding pursuit mode into the multiplayer component.........****ers

Post 18

well ea are making the next kotor online game, so expect more fun with that.

Post 19

I've hated EA since they ruined Westwood, but lately I think they are trying a bit more then normal. Dead Space looks like a very well done game as does Red Alert 3. As for DRM I haven't had any issues with it but I have only installed a few games that have it. Still I agree that limiting number of installs and making it harder for people to run it then a pirated copy is kinda shit.

okay, so how do you feel about buying a game with phone home DRM, that checks to see if you can run it, then a year later, the company goes bust and their DRM servers go offline, and you can now no longer play the game you paid for, because the phone home check fails.

still okay with DRM?

That sounds oddly like some of the DRM music that has been available over the last few years although at least one case a company did the right thing and dumped DRM but then did the wrong thing and stopped their DRM auth servers.

EA might be releasing some good games soon but there are plenty of other good games out there so I will giving my money to them instead of EA.

Post 22

well you could always just buy the game, then use the crack/patch.
only takes a minute.
i dont see any differnce to that and buying a game and using a nocd crack for convenience

Post 23

i try the game for a week if i like it ill buy it .... buy theres a so many games out you try it for for 30 mins and think "THIS SUCKS" and you think why the hell did i waste $90 on this game...

that pisses me off...

Post 24

Demos/Shareware seem a thing of the past these days.

They do get released sometimes after the game has been published!

To me the point of playing a demo/Shareware is so to get a taste before it comes out and then decide to buy or not.

On another note with EA. Don't get me started with them. They stuffed up BF2 big time and split the community imo with there micro transactions on expansion packs that failed.

EDIT - for the record i have put my preorder for farcry 2 in. I am okay with the DRM in one thing that it most likely be on my machine for a while anyway.

Post 25

Has anyone got the PC version yet? Decided to goto EB and pre-order. I cold see the game in their store room as the door was open, box open with FC2 boxes and street date release written on the side ... dam counter girl would not give it up.

I have paid my money they have the game ... I should have it. Thoughts ...

Post 26

Its out tomorrow anyway just wait a day.

Post 27

lol you just dont know the right people there has been a fair crack down on games coming out before release date :)

Far Cry VGA Graphics PC performance review on guru3d.com

Far Cry 2 PC VGA Graphics performance review

So far so good it sounds. Now to see if it will run okay on my 7900GTX on highish settings

Post 30

wow...just wow.
the pc version on ultra settings looks amazing.
especially the intro sequence in the car, i cant get over how amazing it looks.
was suprised though that it only has 8x AA.

Post 31

machete kills FTW!!

I'm really impressed with the fluidity and size of the game.

Scenery is stunning.

I started a brush fire and nearly got myself burned just admiring the graphics.

Post 32

They need to put in a server browser and the ability for local ISPs to host servers.

Awesome game IMO.

Post 33

Have u guys checked out the map editor? Its quite cool. Very easy to use, its like making a Dawn of War map but with an easier interface.
The only things that irk me so far are the spawn times in multiplayer which u cant change and to a lesser extent no 3rd person mode in vehicles.

Post 34

i've just started playing the singleplayer campaign - loving it BUT, the very first mission where you have the option to go chat to your buddy, Singh, the guy he sends me to intimidate locks up the game when i interact with him?! anyone know of any workarounds for this? tried reverting to older saves to no avail.

Post 35

Up to date with the patches?

Post 36

yeah - i got it through steam - have since found a ton of threads complaining about contacts not responding and locking up the game or simply not being where they're meant to be.

Post 37

Steam are selling it for $37.99 down from the usual $49.99 atm.

Post 38

that's what made me buy it :)

Post 39

Necropost:

i've just finished clocking up nearly 8hrs.
It's a good game and it's visually impressive. I can run max settings on my new PC with no jitters and that makes me happy.

The only 'issues' i have; is I personally think the story is evolving way too slow and for an FPS; its too tedious.

I've wasted about 400 datsun sunnys so far :p
The blood diamonds currency is a really nice touch too.

Post 40

You're spot on; the story does evolve slowly.
It's definitely a game you need to invest a lot of time in to progress the story.
I've spent ages just roaming around, not mission focused, looking for diamonds, finding the gold plated AK47, even found myself watching guard posts from distances and watching how the guards interact.
I like the fact that you can do this if you like; not forced to hop from mission to mission because the game makes you.
I can see how some gamers would find it tedious though.

Post 41

i would like to just explore - but the need for pills is really annoying

Post 42

yeah that does sit in the back of your mind.
It's probably the only thing I have found really annoying, obviously it's there to keep you on the path the game wants you to follow.

Post 43

I found the gold AK today - I've stashed it in my primary crate.

For some reason I had to mercy kill my female buddy.
I had lots of heal syringes but it forced me to mercy kill her with them - which kinda sucked ;(

Post 44

yeah that happened to me once, fortunately i had quicksaved a minute beforehand which gave me a chance to save her silly arse from being shot to death.

Post 45

sometimes bitches need killing.

Post 46

anyone know of any mods to make multiplayer setup anything less like arse than it currently is?? eg: friends/server browser?

nvm, discovered the december patch sorted that all out.
