Adoption of Mumble

It has been many, many years that the GU community has faithfully used Teamspeak. From a communication quality and latency perspective, it was outdone by Ventrilo, but their money-grabbing antics and strict licensing options prevented a move toward the service.

Thankfully, an open-source community driven alternative that prevails over both has finally been developed. Mumble is the new choice of communication application for hardcore clanners and casual gamers alike. It's as close to real-time as we've come across, and the quality is outstanding. Surpassing even Ventrilo in both regards. Best of all, it's free, and has some ultra-nifty features not seen elsewhere...

Once "expert config" has been enabled, you'll have the option to enable an overlay which activates in supported games, listing who is talking and who is in the room. Beyond that, support for positional audio has been developed in a range of games, including Team Fortress 2. What this means is that the further away you are from your friends, the quieter you'll be to them, and if you're on the right of the listener, they'll hear it prodominately from their right ear.

It's quite simply f*cking awesome.

Post 9

Nice.

Post 10

Didn't Harb bring this up before a while ago?

Post 11

to be fair, I just wanted it so we could use it for raids. Cheaper than vent :P

Post 12

works fine on Win 7 beta.

Post 13

Random bump since aion's started.

Post 14

Need this for mumble ;)

App Shopper: PhoneSpeex (Social Networking)

Post 15

Anyone else get like a low clicking/popping/cracking sound when people speak?
I do :(

Post 16

its actually our connection, lenko and i hear crackling, but its fine for everyone else.

Post 17

I got pops/crackles etc. until I installed newer audio drivers. Fixed.

Happens every time I format. Drivers that Win 7 installs means crappy audio with Mumble.

Post 18

that'd be it. thanks dude.

Post 19

I'm in the process of updating all this.

Moving to Mumble (Murmur) test version 1.2.0 as it has better Vista/Win7 support, better audio, etc etc.

Server is now at 1.2.0, and now getting an admin area setup so I can deputise people...

Post 20

Grab the latest version from here: http://mumble.info/snapshot/mumble-2009-10-02-1514-c935e1.exe

I found that vent is more clearer than mumble, i know im wrong but i dunno. Anyone care to explain?

Post 22

Who wants to help setup the channels and their ACL's? (Ala: ACL and Groups/English - Mumble ). Do a good job, and get admin access to the server.

Prefer someone who uses mumble and understands the requirements...

Post 23

Mumble is definitely clearer than Vent, and has less latency. You're the first person I've met to think otherwise. Update your sound card drivers.
