Ive just about finished my first winter in Banff, Canada where I learnt how to snowboard and I'm so hooked Ive even started dreaming about it! I am constantly watching the weather to see when the perfect snow conditions are.. and I count down the clock till the next day I can go riding.
Ive been in a few resorts Aleyska which is in Girdwood, Alaska. Mt Norquay, Sunshine Village & Lake Louise which are all in Banff and Fernie which well is in Fernie, BC
I learned to love the -10 temperatures and more importantly snow.
This coming from living in darwin most my life (which I love) and thinking 20C was cold!
I've done skiing and snowboarding. Personally i found skiing easier to start with as it was like down hill ice skating, but boarding is a lot more cooler and once you've got the hang of it jumps are easier.
When your back in Australia and craving the snow, most of my mates find the snow is better, the hills are larger, its cheaper and you get more days for the same price... if you fly to NZ :P
Last couple of times I attempted to find snow, only one to two runs where operating in bulla or falls.
The season is pretty much over here.. we had 30cm of snow in the last four days so I took advantage of it for some of the best spring boarding ever! only problem was the -10 windchill and me without my facemask (it was supposed to be spring dammit!!!)

I must agree with you on snowboarding Amanda, after my first time at it, absolutely fell in love with it. Travelling down the side of a mountain trail, with metre deep untouched powder snow is one of the best feelings in the world (up there with skydiving and sex...).
I'm getting into it properly this year, have started buying all the gear, can't wait for it!
Yeah, been snowboarding for about 7 or so years now. Been all over Aus/NZ, few places in Europe, Killington in east coast US and Whistler in Canada. Can't wait to get some money together and get to Japan, have heard from soooo many people it's the best powder in the world.
Had a mate do a season in Banff while I was living with mates in Whistler, heard really good things. Would love to get up there one day before I die too :)

Psyave is right about NZ. I went to Queenstown last year and loved it. A week there costs little more than a week at an aussie resort... I'm heading back this July for another 5 days.
My mate has been to all the NZ mountains and rates Treble Cone the best (near Wanaka).
