I was just having a wander through internode's site when i noticed their Easy Plan page (which reads very much like a Telstra one with a slightly better cap: Internode :: Residential :: Broadband :: ADSL :: Easy Broadband :: Plans
anyway, i know this isn't news to some but i noticed this: Quote:

I always thought internode was above the majority of the petty shit that companies like Telstra perpetrated upon their client base?!
does anyone know if their Monthly Usage Meter calculates usage in real Megabytes (mebibytes whatever you want to call the ones that people actually think of when they think megabyte) or the above mentioned Monkeybytes?

Internode have better service, Lots of useful unmetered content (Steam Content Servers, ABC iView etc) and lots of viable options should you find that your quota does not suffice in your first foray into broadband internet...
The maths you've pulled is a computing standard so why not get outraged at the entire industry for not being completely politically correct?
err.. clearly you didnt spend two minutes reading my post or you'd realise i was having a go at the entire ISP industry. i didnt say anything about the plan itself, other than that it mentioned the pedantic use of gigabyte and megabyte rather than the common form that people equate with files they're downloading. (note even the thread title says "ISPs" not internode specifically).
I was previously only aware of Telstra doing this in their billing (further reading has shown that most Aussie ISPs do it), hence my annoyance at discovering my favourite ISP also does it. And it isn't restricted to that plan - that particular plan was just cited as an example from which I nabbed the quote.

The thing that bugs me about a huge majority of comments / information out there on the net is you for the majority of the time hear about the not so good things.
At least with node you can have a usage program to keep track of your quota. The gay thing i remembered when i was bigpond was that when your capped, you cant log into your bigpond account on the site due to the flashy crap overloading the connection.. /end
Do any ISPs offer email as unmetered content here? I'd be surprised if they did. It'd be too easy to send pirated stuff to people without it counting on their quota if that was the case.
