Good Samaritan killed by flying tyre

A Good Samaritan has been killed by a flying tyre after he stopped to help a motorist whose car had broken down in Melbourne?s west this afternoon.
The 63-year-old man pulled up on the Princes Freeway, near Newland Street in Altona Meadows, to come to the aid of a driver with car trouble about 1.40pm, a Victoria Police spokeswoman said.
As the man returned to his own car, a vehicle hauling a trailer loaded with an excavator had a blow out that caused one of the trailer?s tyres to fly through the air and strike the man.
Paramedics tried to perform CPR on the man but he died at the scene.
The trailer driver stopped at the scene. Ambulance Victoria initially believed the freak incident had caused a two-car crash but police said there had been no other accident.
