I think that spells career change... mid life crysis "well if i have one now i should be right for when i actually do have one".... I could just go crazy... drink more "couldnt possibly drink more then i do now lol"... drink less "i'll leave this to change"... find another job same or different industy.. become a bludger "thats self employed isnt it"....
well i have 8 weeks till im unemployed what should i do?

Seriously man. Get out. I lived there for 30 years and moving away was, by far, the best decision I ever made. Use it as an opportunity to escape. There is much better weather and much, MUCH better women down here.

Thats funny. I lived in Adelaide for 30 odd years, and moving away was, by far, the best decision I ever made.
I dont know about the weather (it gets pretty cold down there) but you'd be right about the women. Adelaide fares well in those stakes.
i moved away for 4 years or so, came back. darwin quality seemed to improve in that time. you're not going to find a better jobs market anywhere else right now i dont think.
dont know what everyone is talking about with the women but i just got beat up like 8 times while walking the isles at woolies in darwin city. there was heaps of good lookers
Re: Just found out i have 8 weeks of work left......
I'll preface this comment by saying I'm not trying to start a flame war, but I've lived in Darwin off and on for much of my life - about 10 years total. And I'd never move back.
... Unless someone was paying me an absolute shitload of money to do so.
Holidays are another matter entirely. I look forward to my next visit.
Darwin is a fantastic place to holiday, it has a LOT of tourist attractions and stuff going for it in that regard. There is nothing there though when it comes to living in Darwin.
Now I don't hate Darwin but I wouldn't move back there. I lived there until I was 20 and always had the opinion of I'd never move somewhere else. When I moved to Perth for 6 months it sort of confirmed that Darwin was great and I moved back.
I came down to Geelong on holiday and found a lot more to do, better weather, same overall feel in regards to the city itself and Melbourne and everything Melbourne has to offer is a 45 min drive away. When I got back to Darwin I packed up and moved down here for good. Been here 5 years now and its the best decision I ever made.
Don't write off other places because of one meh experience somewhere else or because you like Darwin. I was in both boats and I was wrong on both accounts.
i moved to darwin from brisbane around 2000 and hated it for my first 3 years im still here and i actually like it knowing there is more to do in other states. there is a lot of work here for the right people and the cost of living is a bit high. yeah it may be hot here but its ok.
Melbourne weather is sporadic and retarded but I think the choice between Sydney and Melbourne is 6 of one/half a dozen of the other for the most part.
I actually really like Melbourne weather. Yeah it's unpredictable, and its often grey, but I do like it a bit colder - and Melbourne has less outrageous heatwaves than Adelaide.
1. Whether you're good looking enough to do it (most important). 2. Whether there's ANYTHING remotely like that in Darwin. If there are more than 3 or 4 than you probably wouldn't bother... unless you could REALLY think of some way you could do it differently. 3. Whether you actually think there's enough business for that kind of thing in Darwin. 4. Whether you can deal with some Darwin River lady pulling out her false teeth and winking at you.
I'd be interested to see how you'd incorporate the Butler aspect into things. Would it JUST be what you're wearing or are you going to do actual Butler stuff... whatever that is.
Or is this some kind of sick joke on your behalf?? :P
Its just a thought Don't think there is anything like that in darwin. would be good night time sort of job but also dont have to be hired shirtless can swarve in a tux or go as theme or costume and all. Might have to talk to some mates about this lol.
as a butler you can do anything clean pools kitchens house's but butlers are the best at pouring drinks.
After having been in Adelaide now for 9 weeks, I miss Darwin so much and can't wait to be back. There really just isn't anywhere else like it, love it or hate it.
Been back in Darwin sorting out all types of family crap though to be honest there are much better places to live in Australia (or World) than Darwin. I'm not here by choice and once things are done I will be shipping out. Though odly unuf my sisters boyfriend loves the places, though he a beer drinker, goes out fishing military kind of guy who is loud and loves attention.
Its a nice place, though if you miss Darwin it just tell mes your not involving yourself into the community and sports events where you've moved to. Its a nice place but shouldn't focus on living in one place all your life.
You should come back to uni dude do your diploma or something in Information Technology, more credentials... equals better job which in turn equals better pay :) and it never hurts to go to the gym more :P

Quote from "Sonicks_Services": Start a mobile beer distributer that delivered cold beer not hot. the topless butler cheese shop - everybody like cheese go to the gym more
You'd have to get a license, and seeing getting one to have a traditional outlet is hard enough... getting a home delivery one (if it even existed) would be next to impossible.
My mates bought these fold up electric Scooters years ago and basically came up with a business where you ride the scooter to town to pick drunk arse people up in THEIR car. You chuck the scooter in the back, drop them home, then ride your scooter home. It COULD work with a bit of thought I reckon.
I still think the butler idea could work if you market it well.

There is a guy in darwin doing that not too sure how well he does.
A business was running in Darwin years ago delivering booze. Was a little van with a big VB can strapped to the roof - quite serious. I think one of the bottle'os was running it from memory. You would need to do your sums on that one. How much booze would you need to deliver to make it pay as your overheads would be massive and you would need to have alot of capital tied up in stock. It certainly has it's challenges.
:Cold Beer distributer: Lets call it --> Cold carted liquor <-- Long delivery state to state |+ | Short suburb to suburb> = Both But to start off just try local cheaper to start just need cold storage space and cold transport
--)clients--> Direct to business - direct to public = To business would be easier but havent even thought this far
--> cost at start unknown
butler doesnt need storage space butler serves what you buy him butler comes on time butler start up cost not much
