i have XP on and everything is good, but i got no sound the fuckin XP doesnt recognise my monster sound 200 MX and i mean this card rocks got me so many kills in CS but still i cant get it to work SOMEONE HELP the little TERMINATOR out here..........

Microsoft Windows Hardware Compatability List if your particular soundcard isn't listed as supported by the HCL, then you're probably out of luck. if it IS listed, you're doing something wrong.
Good luck term try the NT drivers for it remember diamond was brought out by S3 a few years ago and S3 changed there name to sonic blue. Since S3 buying Diamond Multimedia every thing that was a genuine diamond product has gone to the shit drivers are hard to come by and are usually out of date but try the diamond web site.

I USED to have XP, but i had to go back to win2k for 2 reason,
1. My new inernet only supports win2k
2. And Wortel kept complaning that my mouse was fux0r3d in XP....it was fine for me
so now that i have win2k back in....my sound is so shit...i mean not the best of sound cards SB live! but it does hte job for me
You guys seem to be the same as all my friends. They don't like XP because of all the problems, but i had more in 95, 98, 2000 and of course ME (might explode?) I am yet to have any problems in XP. I spose it's all just a matter of time! It is after all a Microsoft O/S.

They must their own client instead of standard PPP, and that client must not have been remade for XP yet.
This sounds dumb but I just haven't bothered reading much about Windows XP - My dad just bought a new comp and had Windows XP installed. He told me how he rang up and gave these people a number and then they gave him another one to put into the comp to get it to work. From what I can gather you now can't install that XP on another machine because somehow it "knows" it's another machine or summat?
How is that possible?
LOL, the copy of XP that i've got is on about 10 computers atm. There's a "corporate editon" that large companies buy, they only have to type in a cd-key but not register like the normal versions.

yeah. thats the one. think of way to describe user, and type user, heh. certain releases of windows xp (ie, home edition etc), gather information from hardware on the machine its first installed on, and registers that configuration online as being tied to the cd key you use to install it, or something. never really cared, my corporate edition bypasses that crap.
I've heard that telstra ADSL techies refuse to support xp yet. That could be why Acid had to revert to 2k.
I'm also having no trouble with xp, and considering what i'm running it on, I feel pretty lucky [Blocked image]
I do have this problem where it constantly redetects my modem as something else, and then conveniently looses the comm port its attached to, but its a minor irritation.
But what if that comp doesn't connect to the net?
i've also heard telstra flat out refuses to install an adsl connection unless you a) run a supported operating system, and b) can show them your _license_ for the operating system. ugh. i really, really, really hope that is misinformation
LOL, when we got optus cable installed the guy didn't give a toss if we had the original cd. They also said that its only supported by 98, 98SE, ME and 2000. Dunno if they've updated their information yet, but it works fine on XP.

It is.. I have ADSL fitted less than 2 weeks ago.
I run 2K ATM with windows blinds.. The "techie" said he was installing on XP 2 months B4 its release.. He didnt care.. Also they NEVER ask for the WinCD.. No licence, no CD, nothing.. They know they are getting their money, so what do the "techies" care..
Note I used the word " techies" for a lack of another name.. They have all the technical knowledge of a spastic earthworm..
could depend on the 'techie' you get i guess, i know people who have been told to present their license before installation will proceed.

There are many tweaks to increase performance with windows XP, windows XP is great because it has it's own software to run adsl which causes less hassle, if your adsl is buggering up with XP it is your own fault and you need to configure it properly, I have a copy of XP that does not need to be registered and can be installed as many times as I want so your all bum heads, ruin speak to Crazy C cause he has text file saying how to tweak XP, XP has a default that reserves 20% of your bandwidth but not many people know this, and there are fewer that know how to remove it, unlike myself, mwu-hahahahah

For those who dont.. WinXP reserves by default 20% of your total bandwidth for microsoft's use..
Why, we will never know..
But it is easily defeatable.
That is merely one of the defaults which decrease your performance, there are many!

I have had xp pro for 3months nearly, Never had a problem. Its far superior than win me/98. Only hassle is that it is hungry on ram.
Some burning software chuks a mentle when you try and install but after a few patches for it, it runs fine. Far as hitty frame rates in q3 i had same prob updated the drivers for it, prob fixed to easy.
keep in mind that xp has directcd support, and if you install roxio easycd creator, and don't remove the directcd component, you'll have all sorts of problems
Isnt removing QOS packet scheduler a hoax? Someone did tests and it doesnt affect bandwith at all?... not sure though..

disclaimer: this info isn't XP specific..
QoS, aka Quality of Service is a broad term for a variety of ways to manage bandwidth in, out, and through a computer.
Now some background..
TCP, for example, doesn't know how much bandwidth you or the other guy have when it starts its session, so it starts out slow and gets bigger and bigger until either your end or the remote end start dropping packets, then it figures it has hit the upper limit and backs off. In simple terms a TCP stream will expand to fill all of the available bandwidth. The next TCP stream that starts up has to deal with whatever piddly amount is left. Anyone who has tried to do two FTP downloads from fast sites at the same time will have seen this - the first download comes in at 48k/s and the second one stuffs around at about 4 or 5k/s.
QoS of helps here because it will ensure that bandwidth is allocated fairly - when there is only one FTP session it gets 100% of the bandwidth, when there are two it makes sure that the first one doesn't totally clobber the second one, and so on.
So if while playing games you have other things generating network activity then QoS will have an effect of some kind, whether good or bad remains to be seen. Otherwise, turning it off might give you a very slight reduction in CPU utilisation but otherwise should make SFA difference

QoS (packet scheduling) is most effective when operating on gateways/routers so as to give each host that uses it 'fair' access. ATM does something similar.
Defragged and my framerates went back [Blocked image] And a dedicated linux machine is running as a gateway to the adsl so no probs there ^_^
