Inception (Christopher Nolan, Leonardo DiCaprio)

This looks all kinds of awesome. Currently 85% at Rotten Tomatoes: Inception Movie Reviews, Pictures - Rotten Tomatoes

Just booked my seats to see it on Thursday night.

I've heard good things from hard to please people. All I can say is that it bloody better be after the crap DiCaprio has chosen to do lately.

What crap is that?

Revolutionary Road was great, Body of Lies was excellent, Blood Diamond was good, The Departed was excellent, The Aviator was excellent, Catch Me If You Can was excellent, Gangs of New York was great.

And that takes us all the way back to 2002. Seems to me like everything he touches is gold.

The only other movie of his I haven't seen since then is Shutter Island. Which I need to do.

The Aviator was like attaching a tube from your eyeballs to your cock then pissing all day and half the night.

I hold it in very high regard. One of Martin Scorsese's best.

And it seems most people agree that it is quality; a 88% review average at Rotten Tomatoes, a 77 review average at Metacritic, 11 Academy Award nominations, and 5 Academy Award wins.

as for the academy awards, gawd - don't get me started on Hollywood and their love of that goddamned era (specifically the shitbox music of the time).

edit: just checked with everyone in our office and 0% liked The Aviator - so nyer :P

Just went out of my way to see Shutter Island... I definitely didn't love it. But by the end you felt like sitting there was worth it. About 40 minutes prior to credits I finally picked the ending, but even then the way the ending played out was a little less than predictable. At the end you realise why the score was the way it was, why the cinematography was shot the way it was, why that art direction was taken - which prior to the end seemed like poor decisions. I'd give it a 6 out of 10, mostly for trying so valiantly to be innovative.

I'd put it at the very bottom of the aforementioned movies, but it was still decent. My opinion is that in the last 8 years, DiCaprio hasn't been in a bad movie. They're good at worst.

Sorry but Shutter island was shit. Shame on you for thinking it was good.

The amount of shit some people have seen makes me think they are going into the cimema bathroom instead of the theater.

Got to say I love Shutter Island, it was a truly moving film to watch. If you opened your eyes and the story that was being told it was absolutely amazing. For me personally I wish more movies like it were made, but this one I love watching every week just due to the Characters and the moral story within the film.

It's all subjective. I didn't like Revolutionary road either and yes I did like Robin Hood. Did you ever see it in the end yourself? or are you still relying on the reviews for your opinion that it was no good.

Yep, I'd agree with that sentiment. Some of the most innovative cinema in a decade.

Interception was okay, but no where near as good as Shutter Island.

next time maybe go see the right film, chad.

Predators didn't feel like an utter piece of shit either - wasn't brilliant, but it was enjoyable, and was DEFINITELY better than AVP1 and 2 (straight into the action like Predator 1 - none of this 40min "oh lookz i haz a famlee so you feel sori for me when i diez").

some lumps of deus ex machina tho "look, there's a Yakuza with them so of course there has to be a katana somewhere" (because all Japanese people that can fight know how to wield a katana)

Inception was just ok... definately not one of Leo's best.

I thought a lot of ideas and characters were glossed over and felt it got overly complicated for no reason. There were a lot of action sequences that felt like they were there for cinematic reasons only. Then there was the love story. It seemed a bunch of checkboxes had been ticked for the sole reason of making a hollywood blockbuster.

Overall I feel the same as I did after seeing the 2nd and 3rd matrix... quite under-awed.

As a positive I would say it was visually impressive and there were some clever concepts. Those aside, I wouldn't be recommending it.

Definitely some over-complications, and it did feel rushed. It's like it could have been a trilogy but they tried to cram it all in.

I think it could have completely done without the love story, which means they could have scrapped some of the uneeded characters (like the uni student), and it could have been a lot better as a single-film.

You need to be forgiving and turn a blind eye or two to really enjoy it without getting frustrated with various aspects. Regardless, it's the best Matrix since The Matrix. :)

Saw it, 7/10. Good film, no more.

Ultimately, I think that's why I didn't enjoy the movie.
That said, I do actually think it's a good movie - it just didn't do it for me. I actually contemplated going outside for a piss during the last 30 minutes :p
