pst!...you cant actually 'host' asherons call games, its all done on 8 servers in the USA....

Post 3

while the concept of a locally hosted rpg server is nice, we have to remember that in order to be a 'success', at least, imo, an rpg server has a far higher 'cricitcal mass' of players then a counterstrike game. where the latter can be fun with less than 10 people, the true beauty of an rpg isn't really experienced until there are dozens, if not hundreds of people on at any one time.

anything short of that and i dont see any real benefit over a dedicated host over an ad-hoc online game between a few mates.

A Jedi Knight 2 server would be good also.

*grin* I asked for a cross section of interest a while back, this survey is the result :P

as for RPG based games, if we can get the word to spread australia wide, who knows how many people we might end up with.

More seriously, I was considering the rpg style games that interconnect servers to form a global network - I don't know of many that offer that sort of thing currently, but I'm hoping that will change.

keep em coming guys, but to make the statistics work, I will need everyone to supply an email address of some sort, too many entries without them will make management here ask questions that I may not be able to easily answer :?

i guess i'm just worried about octa's infrastructure when it comes to hosting a truly huge rpg. hell, right now the counterstrike servers still seem to get weird lag, thats with 15 people ;p

Hope I don't get spammed now I've given Octa4 my email addy, had to close my last two due to spam.

Post 8

your not the only one to have mentioned it - believe me, its on my list of things to look in to.

Edit: lol Ruin, I'm the only person at Octa4 that gets to see your email address, so if it gets spammed, let me know

I've known that CrystalSpace existed for a while, only recently did I take a look. CrystalSpace is a fully open-source 3d Game engine.

CrystalSpace

Quite impressive.

Unfortunately I cannot test it since I am currently on a K6-2 233MHz machine without a 3d card.

Heres a screenshot from Planeshift, which is using this engine.

It's quite a well developed engine. Its got impressive features as well as a few that are just plain quirky (ASCII rendered video modes).

Sorry if this is a bit late, just thought I'd let you guys know it exists.

it means there's an error in the script.

Post 12

hrrmmmm.... I can't duplicate the fault.. if anyone else gets it, email me at stuartm@octa4.net.au with your O/S and Browser make and model number

Post 13

Found this while browsing www.myextralife.com

probably relevant to the survey..... - or at least the people at this forum :P

Post 14

I got an error as well Stuart but mine was in line 35.
I also know why i got the error. It was because i refused to answer the question. I liked none of the games mentioned so i didnt pick one. I would say that was the reason for the error and not a scriptting error. probably stuffs up your statistics as well.

Post 15

ahh, the problem is solved

makes sense actually, thanks for the info dude

still a scripting error. no choice is still a choice and it should handle no input without erroring.

Post 17

*grin* I didn't make the code, I just stole it - but I know the guy that did make it, so I can get him to tweak it for me to solve that problem 8)

Post 18

Post 19
