I've been wanting to change gear on gaming and I found this group I left about 5 years back to be still alive, kicking and in great multitude.

So... is Air Soft or AEGs banned in Australia?

Link is here

I think they might be, last I heard defence force cadets could participate.

Post 3

Post 4

Just looked at the site, thats not paintball those things shoot ball bearings.... their combat air rifles.... If you've ever been smacked by a paintball imagine the hurt from those things.

Post 5

yes paintball is banned in the NT, yes that would be banned in the NT, and no it is not available to defence force cadets in the NT.

While we're at it, fully automatic air weapons of any kind are banned as well, iirc.

<enteres rant mode>

Stupid repressive government. Get this. Someone goes ballistic with an SK (?) - a semi-automatic assault-style rifle, with a 30-round clip. So what does the government do? Ban all semi-automatic rifles and shotguns of all types, oh yeah, and pump shotguns. And implements this with a scheme to buy back all now-illegal weapons at significantly less than their actual value, using taxpayer dollars.

Now if that isn't overboard, consider this. Rifles and shotguns are made for hunting. They are effective at greater ranges than would normally be seen in urban combat, are nearly impossible to conceal, and were basically made to hunt animals.

Pistols on the other hand, were designed for use on human targets in close quarters (ie, in urban environments). They're easy to conceal, quick to acquire targets, and quite effective against any unarmoured target (ie, families out at your local McDonald's) - and most pistols hold quite a significant quantity of ammunition, as well as being quick to reload.

Now, considering this, it doesn't make much sense to me that rifles and shotguns were banned, whereas pistols were not.

Then again, I'd better keep my trap shut, or good ol' Johnny will go ban them too.

Hmph. Sometimes I wish we DID have a bill of rights, then at least we WOULD have the right to bear arms.

The guns featured in the sites and links are all model guns. They are replicas of real guns. To the untrained eye, there is no difference.

Air Soft has been in the Philippines since 1985 and is a very good indoor/outdoor sport. If it rains, the fun begins. If its hot and sunny, oh well, at least there wont be pressure problems.

AEG stands for Automatic Electric Guns. As far as I know, gas powered SMGs and rifles are now banned in all private and public playing fields due to the uncontrollable nature of their power. The only gas powered allowed are 134A and Green Gas (compressed air) pistols. The highest muzzle velocity allowed by a sanctioned group here in the Philippines is 450feet per sec or 150meters per sec using a 0.3 gram 6mm airsoft BB. I know that it is significantly much lower elswhere allowed (ie, Canada, US of which up to 420 fps is allowed on some fields and lower on others using a 0.25gram airsoft BB).

Now think of how painful it will be to get hit at approximately 150 ft with a 0.25 gram bb at 440 fps. If you smile :D and get hit at your tooth, you'll be visiting the dentist, so not only is an eye wear mandatory, a full face and neck protection is advised as well.

I used to own a gas powered (380 fps at 0.25gram) semi and full automatic machine pistol (Beretta AUTO9). For a pistol... this one packs an extremely strong punch (usual fps by pistols is only up to 280 at full modification during the time). The pistol was personally moded by me using both specialized upgrade kits and some fabricated parts (such as springs and valve pins). It is powered by a compressed air gas tank with a 3 stage booster piggy backed on the tank. Typically, it would power larger equipment like assault rifles and smgs but in my case... well... I'm pistol whippin opponents (ROBOCOP style).

Air soft is in some ways better than paint-ball. The most you'll spend for a pain ball rig with outfit would roughly run you down Au$8,0000. For the same amount of money, the sport of Air Soft would give you a choice of a Sniper Rifle (like the M24 SOCOM-bolt action gas powered) or an assault rifle (like an AK 47, M16A2, SR16/15, AUG!!!, H&K G3/A3,FAMAS)and an electric SMG (like an MP5 SD6 or SD5 or an FN P90) plus, you get a pistol as 3rd weapon for sidearm. Now thats not all. All of them will be moded (I like modding ) to perform to optimum field standards (mods like barrels, pistons, springs, motors, batteries, feed mechanism and even reciever groups and other accessories like scope and sights) so that your equipment will be within tolerable limits of the playing field.

There's a bit of danger to society when bad people mishandle airsoft. There have been numerous incidents where air soft replicas has been used to orchestrate a robbery and people could pose as illegal military personel weilding "high power weapons" made of ABS plastic.

I departed from the airsoft scene a long time ago as the heat was getting too hot for airsoft. I heard rumors that it has been banned already here due to the criminal incidents associated with it but then, the merit of sports and recreation by responsible people probably has given it another go.

That's a bit of my side on this... hope I didn't bother ya too long :P

If you do dive into this... don't go RAMBO... :D

Although some of them are just posing (not wearing protective gear), aren't they cool?

Well firstly id be damn sure wearing a helmet along with everthing else. Imagine getting shot in the ear and getting a perforated drum  or even the back of the neck you could end up with a broken neck

[sarcasm]Secondly I'll take a M24 SOCOM, a guille suit, P90 and pistol ;)

P90 owns ;) oh btw does it come with a 50 shot clip for spammage? :)[/sarcasm]

[sarcasm=4]
the FNP90, I think comes with a 300 round 6mm BBs... 380 if you take out the spring and make it gravity fed like the Calico... but not advisable cause it'll be rattling and might misfire becaue the BB won't load :P[/sarcasm]

The MP5 clip carries with it 80 rounds per clip. A Box type magazine feed can give you a whooping 500 rounds but the mp5 becomes too bulky with it.

The AK 47 stock mag sports 120 rounds. The high capacity gives you 200.

The SR/CAR (Colt Automatic Rifle)/Carbine clips packs 80 rounds as well as the AUG and FAMAS magazines.

Each clip of the M24 SOCOM has a full load of 25 6mm BBs. But remember... its bolt action.... so it goes pssst... click... clack... long range engagements are best done using this.

Post 12

mmmm if only the P90 in CS had 300 bullets per clip, imagine the spammage and havoc i could reap with that

I didn't notice the dick... I was too obsessed with the AUG
And yes... he's holding it wrong... he's a leftie and the bolt is on the wrong side.... the ejectcion port must be on the other side then... if it were a true AUG... he's gonna have a red cheek after a mouthfull of 5.56mm NATO shells.

Most of this is true darkwolf. However average Joe cant walk into the local guns and tackle shop and smack down a wad of cash and walk out with a nice hand gun of some calibur.
However average joe can do the above mentioned and walk out with a rifle or shotty. That was the principal behind dickhead Johnny and his gun buy back.

Why didn't they just put the same restrictions on purchasing rifles and shotguns as they did on handguns then?

Post 22

Let me make a point, it's not the gun which kills the person it's the person behind the gun pulling the trigger. Or if a person gets into a mac track & plows through I crowd killing several people is it the truck which killed the people or the person controlling the wheel.?

Band the mac tracks go Jonny go Jonny go Jonny well done!!![sarcasm]

Why is paint ball band in NT, hmmm let me think back.
Ahhh now I remember it was band cuz a very young kid shot his brother in the side of the head at point blank range. Why? because the adults left there paint ball gun fully load & charge on the coffee table. Now everyone suffers & paint ball is band. But when the adults left there keys in the car & one of there chlidren runs over his smaller brother did they band cars? no.

OMG I found a picture of Neo.

The protection gear is the same U use for paintball, as the muzzle velocity is the same..

Generally, sniper, assault rifles and SMGs are made of medium grade ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene )plastic. Its about 1 notch lower than the polymer plastic used in the real guns (like the AUG). The benefit of this type of plastic is its lighter weight with nearly the same strength as the polymer ones. It can be easily molded and machined to shape with varying degrees of hardness so as to resist abrassion.

Now some parts of the rifles and SMGs need to be metal as they are parts where most interfaces are attached (laser dots, scopes, slings etc.). Upgrade parts (recievers, stock, foregrips and sights, bushings) can come in assorted materials ranging from rubber, aluminum, wood, high density ABS plastic, cold forged steel, stainless steel, brass and even die cast iron.

Some pistols are made using a higher density ABS plastic to mimic the same model. Western Arms for example, manufactures some versions of the same pistol using higher density ABS like the INFINITY (very good gas blow back pistol). KWC makes some high density SMGs as well like the Steyr-TMP. I'm not sure if the TMP's magazine is metal or ABS plastic as well.

Care of gun during play is tantamount to its longevity of service. Minor scratches or bruises won't affect the equipment's performance but dropping and crashing the gun will definitely reduce or if not fataly terminate its service. Dropping the gun might jarr some attachements like a scope or a laser pointer. Do remember that these guns have sensitive internal parts that do not exist with the real steel. They are internally accomodated to give the performance of the real thing. So literally, if you're carrying a very long gun (eg. M24 SOCOM or H&K PSG1, oh God, damn f****** expensive) don't try to outrun someone carrying an MP5 especially if they come in 6 pack Navy SEAL gang. Assault rifles like the AK 47, Colt series, AUG, FAMAS whose stock versions are nearly 80% ABS plastic needs a fair bit of care until you start investing in metallic upgrades. The AUG's upgrade is very limited as there are very few options (other than barrel, piston, engine, battery and other minor parts) so people go for Colt series or the famous AK 47 for power.

In the Philippines, its a bit brutal here as the FPS is pushed to nearly skin breaking or tearing velocities. I know its significantly lower in US (and Canada) and the only allowed playing BB weight elsewhere is 0.25grams. Inflicting unnecessary pain is strictly enforced here though.

Yeppers... its in US$... the shop is in Hong Kong.... I might get it cheaper though cause majority of the equipment is being shipped directly from Japan

And Jay, P90 TR offers the BEST CQB, medium range + weight (beating all the MP5 series combined) considerations as opposed to the Civilian AUG. That's the reason why it ranked #2 on my wish list. The AUG however dominates the medium and long range and is excellent contender for a sniper platform. The only downer for the AUG is the reciever and barrel upgrades are very limited, not to mention it ranks as on of the heavies of all AEGs... but there might be upgrades soon.

AK47 and the M4A1 is in the list for cosmetic and power purposes. Their upgrade capability surpasses is the the highest of all. Plus the fact that most players graduating from the sport are disposing of old equipment. So they'll run real cheap :D

Oh well... if I can rake up the dough by being a cook here... maybe I'll have em both :D

Post 32

Thanks starscream... i was waiting for someone to post that, while i read thru the posts... heh

but.. as much as the laws suck.. they aren't all that bad.. im a hunter.. ive hunted for years.. my dad runs a safari business out of katherine and mataranka.. i have a wall cupboard full of guns sitting behind me.. and not one of them holds more than 5 rounds.. they are either bolt action, or over and under shotguns.. and let me say, they suffice.. but what the general public doesn't know is that the autos that were 'banned' aren't really banned.. the property where my dad runs his safaris also employ's him as a 'pest eradicator' basically, they get him up in a chopper and he makes an effort to thin out the pig, donkey populations that ruin the land the stations use for their main income, this being cattle. Because of his lovely postion in the field.. my old man, is now legally allowed to own, hold and use a fully operational semi automatic rifle.. and the defence forces, they are allowed to use them too.. so what im saying is, if these guns are used for hunting, as Darkwolf noted, the hunters, although annoyed, dont need any more than a bolt action, personally, it adds to the challenge.. if you walk onto a mob of pigs, and only have a couple of shots.. the whole sporting chance thing =) and the people who need fast firing rifles, can still get them.. mind you, it takes a hell of a lot of work and convincing =P

Sardok, was annoyed at the gun laws, now, not so annoyed =)

Post 33

I heard stories from my boss' brother that they do go out into the bushes to hunt pigs (wild boars to be exact). What you people down there call as pests sells mighty freakin expensive mulahs here in the Manila.

Imagine this at one of the exclusive grill bars here: a 250gram serving of wild boar costs approximately Au$40. And there's no way the person eating it will be able to tell if the boar is definitely a wild one or if its grown in someone elses back yard and got stolen. F****** ripp off I say... sad, sad story.

So Sardok, if I wan't to go hunting and I want to use a hunting bow and arrow, how much would it cost me to get a license and clearance? Is there such thing as a boar season or a donkey season? And aahhhmm... are donkeys really donkeys or do you mean brumbies... Is there such thing as maximum kill limit for such pests? Is the use of charged arrowheads banned for hunting (broadheads with explosive tips )?

Post 34

theres no open season for pigs / donkeys here...

and yeah, donkeys are donkeys.. eeeooorrr!

erm.. about explosive arrow heads, ive got NO idea on that, ive never used bows, outside of a club where i sucked majorly =P

hehe, and the pigs here.. i wouldn't touch them with a 10 foot pole they are full of diseases and bad stuff.. but yeah, i remember bringing lots of meat back, and taking it to abitours (i have no idea how to spell that word, thats how it sounds tho.. they buy meat and stuff), but, since the black forest got cleared for non-radioactivity, the price in aus has dropped severely, its not worth the effort to take meat off them, considering the driving, and mud you have to go through to get to them.

erm, you wanna know prices for my dads business?? or just license costs? im not following that bit =P

Post 35

I see... and I've learned as well that if you wan't to take boar meat, you gotta have it inspected for diseases and foul stuff. But I hardly beleive at all that boars there will have diseases and shit stuff on them. Between an Aussie boar and an African boar, I'll go with the Aussie one as the African boar might be carrying bugs (HIV/AIDS shit).

Boar tusks are a lucrative thingo for the Chinese. If you'd collect them, I'm sure they'll be worth something if you sell it to them.

And yeah, I wanna know license costs.

Post 36

yah, well, email me, or icq me, i just added you to my list =)

let me know what you wanna do, and ill organise license prices and stuff, or at least, get it ordered =)

*lol* Climb the nearest tree and hope you didn't piss them off :)

Yes, while I am more than aware that a person who needs access to a semi-automatic firearm can get one, that still doesn't take away from the farce that the Government started by so seriously restricting the use of such a wide range of firearms (semi-automatic rifles, magazines holding more than 5 rounds - I'd forgotten about that one, semi-automatic shotguns of all types etc).

Anyway, it's all water under the bridge now. There's no way in hell that any Government is going to repeal that law now. Every Government wants laws like that in place, but nobody wants to be the first to actually instate them.

Why bother with detonators - Nitro is more than volatile enough - hell, I'd go with a bottle of nitro, an iron cutout of a man, and some tranq's - drug the boar, paint his tusks with nitro and wait to see him charge the cutout

Post 42

Got the remote detonators so I can leave a can full of the stuff lying around while I go and get the boar's attention.
