How to get custom weapon skins to work Tutorial.

In the last couple of days, I have had a couple of people ask me how to instal custom weapon skins, as since the last release all they can get are left handed models..

In the last release they broke the system, whereas before they had left handed and right handed models. Now the engine has right handed models that it treats as left handed ones, and it mirrors the models over to the right hand as required..

Clear as mud eh ?

Read on and you will see how its all done..

And now un archive it by whatever means U wish and U will be left with something similar to this.

So whats there ?
U have the usual credits text files paying homage to the creators ( the thing no one reads ).

And U have the model in its various forms.. In this case a AUG.

P, W, V_foobar.mdl, and V_foobar_R.mdl

P is Player view, this is the model U see when U look at another player holding the weapon.

W is World view, its what U see when the weapon is lying on the ground, normally next to the reeking corpse of its last owner..

And the V_foobar.mdl <---- Left handed screen view
And V_foobar_R.mdl <---- Right handed screen view

So what I want U 2 do is right click thet left handed view and delete it.

So thats now v_aug.mdl sittin in the recycle bin.. U wont need it. It wont even work.

And now I need U to rename the right handed version to a leftie.

So IOW delete the _r bit from the file name.

Now highlight all the good bits and copy em.

Straight to your models folder within counterstrike

Dump the lil puppies there and overwrite as required

Thats it, U have done it.. U will now have working new skins on your weapon, with a working leftie and rightie..

Knight it can be done. You need some skin editors (MS Paint) and some know how. When I get on my desktop I will post a link to a site that shows you how.

But doesn't it only affect what you see (local playermodels), not what the other guy sees.

Yes aravi works the same with player skin weapons models
