I was just talking to many of my suppliers from down south, trying to find a release date for the radeon 9700....
unlike we first believed, the Gigabyte cards will NOT be the first 9700's to hit the australian market.... Gigabyte cards are not expected for another month......
Excallibur Radeon 9700 was shipped from Hong Kong TODAY and will be in Australia on Monday. Depending on the customs hold-up we should have stock available for order by the middle/end of next week....
unfortunately, the retail price is not going to be under $600 as we were led to believe for the last month....
the retail price is going to be $795 inc GST at my shop for the first batch that arrive. This is very good price I am led to believe. Pre-order now if you want to be one of first in Darwin with one of these AWESOME cards!

The 9700 is ATI's newest card that absolutely whoops the GF4 in performance. Mind you, it'll only be the king of the hill until the NV30 (nvidia's new chipset - GF5?) comes out....

Nah seriously though, based on the gheymark 2000 tests and better yet Unreal Tournament and a few other games tested, a GF4 is no match.
And yes the GF5 or Omen or whatever the fuk their gonna call it, will probably be faster again, but the question i have is whether it will have the same graphics quality with less of a performance hit and whether it will be fast in games and not just good gheymark scores.

Now that I know the down south prices, I can put my price up (hahhaha just joking).....
I don't have a link to the Excallibur Radeon cards, I will try and get one... All I know is they are a "Built by ATI" card..... They follow the reference design exactly, even with the standard ATI heatsink etc etc.... That is what I found out after selling the Excallibur Radeon 8500 cards, I guess the 9700 will be no different.....
Unfortunately, I will not be STOCKING these cards... a little out of my price range to leave sitting on the shelf :) heheheheh I could spend that money to buy MYSELF a Radeon 9700, rather than have one sit on the shelf MUAHAHHAHAHAHA :) hehehehe... then I could overclock it to 400MHz... then I could be in benchmark heaven.... MUAHAHAHAHAHAHA :)
Anyway, I have to go and format my Hard Drive (win2k shat itself big time).....

See how pointless that whole line of thought is??? Three months can double your performance, I think its worth the wait. nVidia brought out the GF2 around 2000 right, its not until now that ATi (and soon nVidia) are releasing cards with twice the rendering pipelines. Its not every day they make such a jump in raw power so in my opinion I think it is worth the wait.
Personally I'd wait a little while before buying a new card.
The prices on all of them will drop as the supply of R9.7k's increases. ATM not all vendors have them and the ones that do are taking advantage of the rarity.
GF4 prices should drop as the R9.7k becomes more available, as will the R9.7k prices once supply starts to catchup with demand.
