i missed most of the news can someone tell me whats been happening?

Post 2

Some nuthead(s) blew up a populated area in Bali and Australia seem to think that the nuthead(s) might have done it because they hate Australia and not because they hate Bali.

Post 3

so they start by killing there own people

Post 4

Well it's a known fact (well it is for me anyway) that the native Bali people hate the Indian settlers, so i'm guessing your right. Civil War anyone?

Post 5

Bali - Austalia holiday hotspot, and low security.

Post 6

A nightclub/bar in Bali is bombed, people are still unknown, the people used home made bombs, the blast has so far killed 182 people, many are still injured.

It's still yet unsure who did it, AL Qaeda was a possibility said the news (and we can really trust the news cant we...), Bali is heavily populated with Muslims, so atm there are many speculations

australia slipping in commitment -----> australian nightspot cops it :P
coincidence????, i think breakfast

Post 8

The group that is suspected is known to be related closely to the Al-qaeda

Post 9

I retract my comment

Forget it all together

Post 10

Do they realise that these actions do nothing to discourage us? If anything they evoke an anger that will drive us to attack them.

Our spirits do not break and we do not give in. Where before I considered the war on terror a bad idea, these people are making me reconsider that position.

Post 11

Well after reading up on it i'd have to agree that Australia does have a point to be concerned. Usually Australia does seem to get scared about anything and everything though and my presumption was made solely on that. I didn't realise that it was an international tourist area that was bombed and my joke may have been distastful, sorry.

Post 12

Wtf is the world coming to?

Post 13

Anyone played Risk? Imagine that with real people and with chemical weapons and nukes.

Scariest part is that i'm going to be alive when this starts and maybe not when it finishes!

Post 14

Gotta hate that, this war on Iraq is like that. The guys at the top act on greed and use propaganda to justify their actions while us people at the bottom pay the price.

Post 15

melodrama again, stop it

Post 16

yet you can't prove what you said to be true. it's your opinion...

and quite frankly i wish that people would stop passing off their opinions as fact/truth.

friend is in bali atm, not sure whether she was at the club at the time but i haven't heard from her since friday night...and as usual, the hotlines are filled up...

Sorry Aravi, but I just about to say the same thing. All opinion, mostly melodrama and no facts presented.

Post 20

news reported 80% believed to be australians of those that were killed

Post 21

Hmmm of corse i think the whole thing sucks, but i also think Australia is being totally melodramatic.
u'know those people wo are like " yeh i was like 20 mins away i totally know what happened" Australia is acting like that..... were 2 hours away and ppfft sif indonesia can handle it.....
i know were just trying to help, but oz is taking it way too personally. what about the other nationalities...!?
I'll admit that the johnny howard handled all the questions real well on 60 minutes last night. woo.

all politics aside though, of corse its scary. it makes it alot closer to home than any other terrorist attack. My dad is off to timor at chrissy, my lil bro is joining the army next year. i dont really want either of them off fighting some terrorist war when the baddies are just stupid religious nutters.

As I've said in the past, this is all throwbacks from World War II.

In fact, Bali is inhabited primarily by Hindu's, who have no beef with Australia. Hinduism is, by and large, a peaceful religion. But let's just for one second assume that this is religiously motivated violence; and, let's take the sterotype and blame a Muslim sect. The reasons it appears the global Muslim community doesn't like the United States nor it's allies (which include Australia) is the state of Israel. Refer if you will to my previous post, can't remember where it is ATM but it's lengthy, about the creation of the Jewish state. That's where this problem comes from, and that's just left over business from World War II.

Post 23

yeah, its all a bit ghey. Still dont know who did it...
The news said if it was some little group in indo, then they wont own up, but if was osama and his buddys then we'll hear about it soon...apparently.

But yeah. 182 missing, and 16 confirmed dead... Also qantas are flying planes in and out of bali as much as possible. And if you have been along lee point road today then you'll notice that they are flying them to RDH. Ambulenceses going up and down every 5 mins or so.

So i guess we jsut gotta sit tight and see waht unfolds.

My thoughts exactly............Seems that things seem to happen to benifit the american stance on the whole weapons or mass destruction etc..etc..etc.......

France against the involvement in Iraq....SO, Blow up ship!
Australian public against involvment in Iraq.....SO, Blow up nightclubs with aussies in them!

Now Australians will be more agreeable to the involvment in Iraq....therefor playing to the Americans advantage

I have said enough...as "big Brother " is probably watching..........!

Post 25

Possible. Either the US is encouraging us, or the terrorists really want a fight.

Quote from Lilu:

The fact is that the majority of people who where there where Australian's. That is the problem. Australia should take this very personally.

Post 27

i didnt think that anyone knew how many aussies were actually there.... there is 200 or so dead and only 14 of them are aussies... thats not a majority.

we can all be upset, no worries, but we have to remember this is an international bombing, not on aussie soil.

Post 28

i think it was 200 missing?
only 16 confirmed dead? but maybe im wrong

Post 29

Quote from The Daily Telegraph - Front Page:
Of the 181 dead, 14 are Australians. But more than 100 of us are believed to have perished in the Sari Club blast.

Post 30

woo we all mostkly read backwards and inside out! :P

Post 31

187 dead and more than 220 still missing (from yesterday)

Post 32

I would be very
concerned if the Americans had anything to do bombing Bali. I suppose your next thoughts would be that Bush had involvement in Sep 11 so to let him release his dogs of war on iraq/afghanistan/wherever he liked.

If it was done by the yanks too many people would have been involved to actually let it happen. No-one would do it there. And for the bombing of the French Tanker - the French wouldnt give much of a toss anyhow. Most of the crew wouldn't have been French anyhow. The French have too many issues at home to be concerned over the loss of a tanker for long.

In truth I am extremely dissapointed people could flippantly comment that the yanks would have had any involvement in this bombing.

Post 33

what ive heard  US knew of *possible* attacks in bali and warned its own citerzens to stay away from nightclubs in bali but did not pass on information to aus.

Official - Us knew of a bomb attack but didnt know it was going to be in indonesia (which sounds like bs for many reasons) - they warned the indonesian government :?:

It sounds like they going to slow release infor to reduce rage !!!
But neway the truth will come out eventually and someone from CIA is going to fry !!!

Post 34

Let me guess they will be football players or some blonde models that were a km away and almost went to the bar that night but decided to have an early night instead.
