i would just like to say that u guys shouldn't be joking about this and be thankfull that australia is such a great country.
that we don't have to look out every step we take outside that we have to change our lifestyle in any way that we dont' have to worry about our children
i may be serious, but think about it guys. u think anyone in Washington feel safe? and here u are joking about it and relating it to cs. i dunno about u guys. but if this was happening in brisbane. i would be fully shittin my pants. i wouldn't go outside, i would stay at home. my entire life would be turned upside down.
i mean just the thought that u would be going about ur everyday business and to be shot down for no fken reason doesn't seem like something i wanna experience. or even know anyone personally who has experienced this
we can only hope that now with the help of the military that this fuck head is caught and if fucken put to death
Inevitiably, the person will be caught and punished. The media coverage ensures that, because yet again, god forbid, its proven that the US has its problems too. Sure, innocents are being killed and thats terrible.. its hardly an isolated incident.
If you can summon that much enthusiasm to speak against people who try to make light of a bad situation, go speak out against the rest. Civil disputes and war worldwide kill hundreds of innocents a week, heh. Media hype seems to make this one somehow of superior importance.
Call me immoral, twisted or whatever, but this shit is funny!
Note: The world is NOT a safe place, Security is NOT a right, and if you feel safe, you're lucky.
I've always said that IF someone is willing to pay the consequences of their actions, incredible things can happen (to good or bad effect). The effect this sniper is having on the American public and world at large is incredible.
As a side note, yes it's tragic that he's killing innocents, but I didn't know them before, and if they had been run over on the highway, or died by some accident, there would be no hubbub about it, so I'm not going to mourn them now. Also, it's not the deaths themselves that have the world in a spin here, it's the fact that control of the situation is out of society's hands, and in those of an individual. That scares people.
Now, that all said, I enjoy a good laugh at the thought of some guy playing Scrabble or something on the weekend, then waking up on Monday saying "Gotta' go to work", and picking up his sniper rifle on the way out......
Iron Fist - the whole point of posting in the first place was not to make fun of this, but to point out the absurdity of the media blaming this whole thing on CounterStrike.
The only result from this will be increased gun laws, and further prejudice against gun owners and shooters, here and in the U.S.
But in other news, according to The Australian (the article was taken down today but I read it at www.theaustralian.com.au), a witness is convinced that the sniper used an AK-74 SAW to preform his sniping. I was completely astounded when I read this; the AK-74 is a SAW; Squad Assault Weapon, a light machine gun. And I mean, CS aside, I'm ment to believe that this man- regardless of his training- can hit a moving head (think loading shopping into the boot of a car; lots of bending and standing) in a carpark from such a distance that no-one notices, with a single shot from a machine gun? True, the AK-74 is capable of firing the .223 round that seems to be the sniper's favorite, but still. That's an impossible shot, and a completely stupid course of action with a machine gun.
Hmmmm well rest asure when he does get caught my bet will be he'll get the death sentence - Hell he bowled over someone from the FBI now they will be pissed. Not only that its "Cold Blooded Murder" sorry had to say that :D

People want to feel safe, and the government gets brownie points for making it look like they're making it happen.
Never mind that the gun is only a tool and its the user who's a problem. Never mind that he probably got that gun off the black market. Gun laws will surely solve the problem

Bloody hell! This sort of crap REALLY, REALLY pisses me off!
Sheesh, what kind of POSSIBLE evidence exists to make that kind of wide-sweeping, incredibly anti-islamic statement? I'll tell you what, it's the fscking media scare-mongering again, and trying to paint Islamics as the big bad bogeyman. It's bloody ridiculous.
The only evidence that exists at this time is the sniper uses a 5.56mm rifle, firing from long range, and possibly drives a van. That's it. Of course, he HAS to be one of Osama Bin Laden's henchmen, because everyone knows that he's behind everything - sunspots, breast cancer, and crop failures!
While I'm at it - get this. I heard on the radio that the Australian Government gave a statement, and this I can't believe, that the bombing in Bali underlines the necessity for the UN to press weapons inspections on Iraq. Well, that's like going to the store for some petrol, buying a giraffe, and then taking harmonica lessons to learn how to dance with the lobsters in your bathtub.
It's almost surreal. Bali gets bombed. HEY! Iraq must have done it! They must have, because the US is itching for a war against Iraq, so Iraq must have done this! Nobody else could have!
Jesus, sometimes I really, REALLY wish that the media would just wake up and smell the gunsmoke. It's these kind of totally foundless accusations that the media makes to try and boost ratings that gets completely innocent people firebombed in their places of worship.
Quote: a single person can be smart, people are invariably stupid
an age old quote that points out the fear and stupidity that control crowds, societies and other large gatherings of people. Unfortunately the media is a slave to ratings, and ratings are controlled by the whims of society.
The only way to stop the government and the media from manipulating "people" is to educate each "person" properly, so that they form their own ideas, without being sucked in by mass hysteria.
my guess is its an american dont see any reason to think otherwise i mean an arab or an iraq wouldve left something to indicate there reasons this person has not which leads to beleive they do this cause they want to and they can(i say they cause you never know could be a chick).
i mean even though it was a stupid thing to do osama sorta claimed responsibility didnt he. My "opinion" (and its just an opinion) is that its simply yet another crazy yankee i mean theyve been plenty of em before.
I believe he was CIA trained or somesuch - it was with respect to the Afghanistan war when the USSR was invading from the north. Anyone who knows more, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong :P

The Taliban was one of the resistance factions during the war the Soviet Union fought against Afghanisation, when they invaded it and occupied it. The Taliban was given equipment by the US, funded by the US, and trained by US troops. When they got into power, they turned against the US pretty quickly. Hence the US being so ticked off at them.
the reason the taliban turned on the us after their "help".
ussr was invading afghanistan and the taliban was a group opposing the invasion. the U.S fulfilling its international policy to oppose communism proceeded to aid the taliban with arms and training. the war dragged on for ages and the country was torn appart eventually the ussr left afghanistan and at the same time so did US the thing was theyd given the taliban the impression that theyd help out afterwards but theyd left the country in more disrepair then if ussr had just taken it over. its happened a few times in usa's history they help a war get big enough to a point where the country is ruined then they leave it cause fighting a war is cheaper and has more glorification then cleaning up afterwards.
not that the taliban isnt f***ed up in there own right but then there mentality likely was shaped by those who trained em.

What makes u think i got the info form the media :) I was given this info from a friend whos dad is an ambasitor to US from Hungary
yes. i'm sure the US would involve the Hungarian ambassador in this. Yes, i'm sure the ambassador would just go and spurt that information to his children, if he had it. Sheesh, make up a semi-believable source next time.
wolfy.. anythings possible.. ive owned/shot a similar rifle to that, and let me say, that thing was mean... we had it shooting 5c pieces at 300 meters.. sure, we had leans, a 5c piece is tiny, but the thing is, a gun will shoot where you aim it.. those guns are damned accurate, if set up properly.. btw, ours was in no way standard ;) tho it was an ak47..
id have to agree with you tho, its pretty dumb him sniping with an assult rifle.. he'd be so much better off with a small bolt action rifle .17 mebbe, no kick, silent, and fast.. .223s are wonderful for long range, the ones ive fired were very flat shooting rifles.. but hey, if he did that, then they'd go and ban guns all together, and no one would like that.. how ghey would that be..
Quote from Matt: 4 of them, i think their arabs *what i heard*
lol, 7 words cause such a stir - even with a disclamer :) The ppl jumping at me trying to discredit me and prove me wrong on something i havent even tried to prove right.
Well heres the only shed of speculative info that posibly may help with what i was told: Media (CNN on SBS): a guy matching the descrition was found in a white van matching the description of the snipers and a pack of cards were found on the back seat (i also heard that it was missing the death card - but that wasnt in the media). Upon searching his house a rifle was found matching the snipers. He has been placed in custody but released lator today when another shooting took place.
So make up r own mind, and just because 1 gets caught dosnt mean 3 didnt get away :)
