What Makes LANning fun?

I recently had to think about this for an assignment and had real difficulty with the question. Now I know that LANs are fun having been to several myself. But the answer still evades me. So I was wondering, what makes LANs fun for you?

nah the socail envorment of meeting new people and talking to friends and catching up with them and having lots of fun at the same time

-Porn.
-Meeting new people and existing friends.
-Bitching about hardware.
-'Down with Microsoft' rants.
-Raping your opponents in games.
-The 6am jokes that aren't really funny, but we're so tired we can't stop laughing. *looks @ Locutus*
(sometimes I'm laughing at him, not with him :P )

Leaching :wink:
Meeting new people
Listing to people rant
Catching up with old friends
Way too much leaching
And gaming!!! OR more precisely: getting my arse whipped in whatever game I decided to play!

Two words.....

LOW PING!!!

Most online gamers have run the gamut of playing single player games..

Where the ( even today ) shoddy AI becomes tiresome, we all desire to play against another real human being, for satisfaction..

Its the basic competitive nature that is present in all humans ( males especially )..

LANs take it to a new level, as U know its not just a real person U are competing against, its him/her sitting right there.

U can hear the sighs of anguish from them as U head shoot em. U hear the cheers erupt from your clanmates as U win a round for em in a war..

Thats what make LANs special, its not exactly the social aspect, per-se. As U can get " social " at the local macca's.

But LANs are different, it takes competitiveness to a personal level. And thats the ultimate acclompishment. to look at the people U are competing against. And beating them..

Its the wins and the losses in a enclosed area that has a uplifting effect on everyone, as U all have a common interest..

LAN's bring normally shy, intelligent people together in a social and competitive environment, to play games and have fun.

I have never seen a LAN go badly, I mena, even cheats are given a modicum of respect, and _politely_ told to leave.... Sheesh, even Juggalo and Co. got out of the last DGA alive!

Thats a hard one.
Ummmm the social event of meeting up with old and new friends to do something that you all have a commin interest in doing, and having a bit of fun doing it. Then theres the leaching, and watching funny videos and some porn.
Thats probably the main reason i enjoy/go to lans :roll:

Theres the ability to both meet and talk to the people you are fragging.

Theres the improved gameplay due to lack of lag.

There's the social atmosphere, both of clans working as teams and of being with like-minded people.

One thing i enjoy is when a newbie arrives at a LAN,
An old friend came to my LAN, and i sat him next to jo blow *forgot his name* and asked him to help the new guy out with patches and mods, I came back an hour later and he was playing CS and thoses two were having a ball,
The refreshing thing was two people who didnt know each other, were helping and playing like they were old friends, That was one moment i enjoyed. at a LAN everyone is a gamers and are equal.

It's what probably kept me alive for a coupla years :D

well i have only been to one LAN but i would agree with what most people have said about them and i could easily write an essay on it!
the meeting people is good. im more curious to see what face belongs to the nickname than actually meeting anyone, me being as unsocial and shy as i am.
the gaming for some i spose. if there was lanning sims id be into it!
mostly its just a good atmosphere where likeminded people can come to have a good time. wether your fortee is gaming or chatting or leeching, its all at a lan.
social for the socially unaccepted!

here here TN1 well put my freind. i to love the way every one treats eachother. i rember my first DGA, i had the best time of my life and even though i was a noob everyone treated me like a veteran. it even toped the time i went to disney land as a kid.

Eater normally cleans up after all DGA LANS when It is there..... but nothing compares to Recoils little pile of shit he left at a few lans. Howie got pics anywhere?

LAN's do it for me because not only can i speak WAY faster than i can type, it also allows me to study people in greater detail.

For example
Playing at a LAN on a reasonable size cs server with 10v10 matches.
There is tension in the air as we have all been playing for a bit and are starting to pick up on each others styles
and then it happens

The Perfect Eater Charge

One after the other howls of dismay fill the air and Eater sits back and laughs and laughs and laughs.
"Sif BS HS EoS" was one of my favourites from Flamm :)

That one defining moment is what makes me happy to have given up time energy, money and playing time to "Admin" the people that attend these meetings of might and power. It fills my black heart with joy to see someone i took under my wing as a complete noob last LAN, blossom into a fully fledged LANner at his/her next LAN and begin to pass the knoweledge down the line and really help us bring it together. Its the passing of knoweledge and power from gamer to gamer that speeds up the process of assembling and disassembling LAN's and makes a Happy Eater :)

As far as i know, my old clan is orginising a lan for the end of the year. If your really interested i'm sure there shouldnt be to much problem getting you in.
And obviously you havent been to a real lan yet, i'de like to see you stay up all weekend, and continuesly play games, the last mc lan was only saterday and sunday and even i had to get some sleep, but then again i have to drive so i dont want to fall asleep at the wheel.

Cant really argue against that one as i have never been to dga. But we do have lans like the big day in, and shafted which in size would be on the same scale if not larger. Mind you i wouldnt mind going to a dga lan, to like many of you have said to put faces to the names, as from what i understand it is mainly an octa4 community thing... So if you all want to chip in and get me a flight there and back, i'll go to the next lan :roll:

DGA lans are tiny to the Valhalla and wonderLAN lans here in Adel..

They always have over 400 ppl every month. Specials top out at 800+ for a weekend.

But the thing about DGA lans are U know all of the players, and play with them pretty much each day..

I dont even think things like SGL lans have 800+ players..

Dont flame me if Im wrong, just tell me :evil: but I think we tend to rule the roost when it comes to lanning each month here in SA.

me and my mates cleaned up after ourselves.... we made sure all our rubbish was in the bins n stuff.... we thought that was a "standard" thing to do as a common courtesy.... :roll:

It would be nice if other gamers were as curtious as thee
