Buy the damm game.

Yeah, and in other news, a hugely anticipated online game is resorting to a new method to combat piracy. Honesty. When approached for comment, a company spokesperson said 'Rather than waste money on a physical method to combat piracy, we're going to believe the quality of our product is such that people will *want* to buy it. We won't be implementing even trivial cd-keys to protect our servers from illegitimate copies of the game.' The source then took a brief look at his watch, and could be heard muttering under his breath 'Fuck, it isnt April 1st, woops'

</dripping sarcasm>

nice mate :)

Heh, its only good when you're not on the receiving end of a rant like that.

Of course, CD-keys introduce key-gens which introduce problems for legitimate purchasers of a game (keygen matches, etc).

Post 8

then get really really long keys

Post 9

There's only so much space on the CD-case, and only so much time people are willing to spend typing in a key.

Yeah, I just spend $90 on a game
omg this cdkey is too long, im not playing this

Post 11

Its still gonna piss people off, it will not instantly harm sales but it will anger customers.

Post 12

really, inputing a large key rather than have your computer freak out all the time because of authentication
I know which i'd take

Post 13

Yeah, but thanks to key-gens, CD-keys are inneffective. So they'll probably still use the latter aswell.

Quote from I:

what are you ignorant?

You get a key with 80 bagillion different combinations and use a registry like WON
then the likely hood of a kegen match is reduced with a direct relation to the length of the key
die

remind me not to press edit instead of quote

Post 15

But that won't stop piracy, keygens will still work.

Post 16

Aravi, i highly doubt it would anger customers... maybe the stupid and lazy ones...

however, if they were stupid and lazy they would prolly be playing CS (and hacking it...).

and aravi, you've completely changed the argument in the course of the last few posts...

From: stopping keygen matches
to: stopping piracy in general

the former is much easier to do then the latter, and that is what harb was arguing.

Why not use a system similar to Windows XP, where u have to register the cd key by phone or online with the servers before allowed to play.. and service packs/updates that do the same as Windows XP SP1.. or something. i just bought the game 30 mins ago ..cant play it yet cause sister is using computer.. :x

You'll never completely eliminate the possibility of a key-gen match, although you can reduce the probability.
